eiCrate: A Better-Looking Way To Crate Your Pet

I'm not big on crating my little Maltese (and she's not big on being crated!) but there are always those times when it's just in her best interests to be confined, whether she likes it or not. Dog crates are typically ugly functional things, but the people over at Go!PetDesign have come up with a slightly less atrocious version of this small dog staple. The eiCrate has an artistic round shape, with a cute little round door and accessories like a fitted cover and half-moon shaped doggie cushion to add even more style. It still has a typical crate's metal framework, but then some things just can't be avoided. $495 - $750

Rare Earth Luxe Pet Crates

We spend a lot of time checking out posh pet houses and luxurious beds, but the reality of the matter is that sometimes you need to lock up man's best friend. Whether you are introducing a new puppy, going to (gasp!) the vet or simply want to make sure that your pet is out of the way during a party, a well-designed pet crate can certainly come in handy. Rare Earth Furnishings, which also makes the Beastro Pet Table, sells this custom-made pet crate, the Grate, as well. The Grate comes in various sizes according to breed and will fit MinPins, Rottweilers and everything in between. It includes a plush, custom-colored cushion to keep animals comfortable and is reinforced at the corners with a spring-loaded latch for security. Price: $658

The Cork

From the designer who brought us The Crate, this is The Cork. The "very basic, very versatile" cork is a rounded, cylindrical cork available in both high (13.39"H x 12.6" dia.) and low (9.8"H x 17.75" dia.) versions. Too large to be used to stop up that half-drink bottle of wine from dinner, the corks are recommended for use as (very small) seating or as tables. At $300, the corks seem overpriced for what they are, but somewhat less outrageous than the Crate, for all that's worth.

The Crate

How much are you willing to pay for a crate? The answer is probably dependent on how nice of a crate we're talking about. I recently found a reasonably nice (free) one in a neighbor's garage, for example, but it must not be nearly as high quality as The Crate. This particular crate was "designed" by Jasper Morrison and is made out of Douglas Fir. The primary advantage of this crate over, say, one found at the back of a garage, is that this one is in pristine condition and has not been marred by use. That said, is it really worth $175?

This Is Not Your Bag Luggage

No matter how long the lines at security are, how many hours your flight is delayed, or even having an unruly 4-year-old seated next to you on the plane, there is nothing worse than lost or misplaced luggage when it comes to traveling. Since so many bags look alike - large, black and boxy - it is small wonder that most people actually manage to pick up the correct bags at the baggage claim. With a bag from the This Is Not Your Bag Luggage collection from Jeremy Scott, you'll never have to worry about someone mistaking your bags for their own. The fabric bags were inspired by the look of wooden shipping crates, with one side labeled "Fragile" and the other as "This Is Not Your Bag." The bag is available at Longchamp's NY (212-343-7444). It is $260 for a laptop case, $675 for a medium duffel and $950 for a large.
