While the environmental merits of any 621 horsepower, twelve-cylinder behemoth that's capable of traveling at speeds of up to 204 miles per hour are (to say the least) debatable, Bentley hasn't exactly been shy about touting the green angle of its upcoming 2010 Continental Supersports.

Add one more black mark to the car's eco credibility as word comes by way of Green Car Advisor that U.S. laws and "engineering challenges" that include the fitment of hardened valve seats in the W12 engine mean that the first 200 Supersports imported to the United States won't actually be flex-fuel capable.

Ah well, somehow we doubt that buyers willing to plunk down the $267,000 it takes to park a twin-turbocharged Continental Supersports in their driveway will be all that concerned with pumping ethanol in the tank.

Let Them Eat Cake: Bentley Unveils Continental Supersports in Geneva

With environmentalists pushing for more earth-friendly transport, surely gas-guzzling behemoths like Bentleys would be going the way of the do-do. Not so fast, says Bentley, as the British luxury automakers, famous for making cars that more closely resemble locomotives with enormous engines, has revealed its game plan to take the Winged B badge into the environmental age.

Called the Continental Supersports, the concept car is the first of what Bentley hopes will be many ethanol-burning vehicles it will offer. Not only does the Supersports offer improved fuel economy and reduced emissions, but it is actually the most powerful, fastest Bentley to date. With 621 horsepower on tap and a zero-to-sixty time of an amazing 3.7 seconds, the Bentley Continental Supersports hit the scene in Geneva to say that we can have our cake and eat it, too.

Continental Unveils New Business Class Seats

New seats have been announced by Continental Airlines for their BusinessFirst cabin on Boeing 787, 777 and 757 aircraft that serve mostly trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific routes. The 180-degree lie-flat seat provides 6 1/2 feet of sleeping space in the extended position. It measures up to 25 inches wide when the the adjustable armrest is positioned flush with the seat cushion. Electronic controls enable customers to move the seats to pre-set upright, cradle and fully extended sleep positions and adjust the seat back, lumbar support and leg and foot rests. The lie-flat seats also offer individual storage space for personal items. Laptop power, headset and USB plugs are tucked above the customer's shoulder and there is additional storage under the ottoman, on a shelf under the monitor and on an amenity storage alcove. BusinessFirst seats on the 787 and 777 aircraft will have a 15.4-inch video monitor while seats on the 757 aircraft will feature 10.6-inch monitors. The seats also have a six-way adjustable head rest and an individual overhead reading light and an adjustable seat light allowing a customer to read in bed without bothering the person next to them. The new seats should start appearing in the fall of 2009.

2008 Bentley Continental GT Speed: Because the Original Wasn't Enough

Sure, it doesn't do a whole lot that the original Bentley Continental GT couldn't do. It's only a few tenths of a second faster from 0-60 mph (4.3 seconds vs. the original's 4.6) and goes only four miles per hour faster than the original GT... but those four seconds make all the difference in the world.

The 2008 Bentley Continental GT Speed goes 202 mph vs. the original car's198, but that puts the Bentley, finally, in the exclusive 200 mph club. Now, the Continental GT can sit among the Ferraris and Ford GTs of the world, and rightfully so.

The other perks GT Speed drivers will enjoy are 20-inch wheels, a low-slung suspension and tinted windows, not to mention the ability to order custom paint and trim.

Sure, it's hard to outdo the original, but why not go all out?
