Globe-Trotter Celebrates 110th Anniversary with Bulletproof Bag

Globe-Trotter, the British luggage designer which since 1897 has furnished luxury carryalls for the likes of Queen Elizabeth II and Winston Churchill, will soon add another formidable piece to its collection: a bulletproof case designed by Ross Lovegrove. Weighing in at under three pounds, it's the lightest rigid suitcase of its kind. Even before this news, Globe-Trotter was getting around: the luggage maker recently collaborated with J.Crew to craft limited edition pieces for its new luggage collection, and it showed up last year in the Conran Shop with a special rolling fashion statement.

The Lovegrove piece will make its debut during New York Fashion Week in September, posing from the windows at Moss. Until then, you can still get the perennial classic, the Centenary trolley suitcase in orange (designed by hand from Vulcan Fibre and lined in silk) at Moss for $1,580. The Lovegrove designed Air Cabin, by comparison, will retail for $3,500.

Sendai Shelving

It's practically impossible to get too much shelf space, especially when the shelves themselves can be interesting. Although I do love the big heavy bookcases found in the studies and libraries of old homes, they just don't look very good in any other environment. But items like this Sendai Shelving from The Conran Shop are much more versatile, not to mention less obtrusive and overbearing in the smaller spaces so many of are working with. Designed by the innovative architect Toyo Ito, it's constructed of oil-varnished mahogany and alder with glass shelves. 49"x15"x75.5", $6100.

The I-Con Desk

This I-Con desk takes the ideas of clean lines and minimalistic approach to the far ends of the spectrum. Designed by Michiel van der Kley, the top is made of white Corian, the drawers black-stained walnut veneer, and it stands on chromed steel legs. And if the you're like me and concerned about having enough storage (as it would probably lose all it's crisp modern appeal if you piled it high with papers) a free-standing drawer unit is also available separately.

The desk is comes in several sizes and starts at £3,850. The drawer unit: £1,995.
