The Lancer Goes Global

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We've seen a few spy-shots of the new Lancer, but today we finally get to see the concept artist's sketches for what some are calling the most important design in Mitsubishi's 90-year history. With a posture very near to the ground, it's relatively long hood, a mean "shark nose" and uniquely deep "eyes", it's very attractive even if it doesn't blow the lid off of emblematic designs of Ferrari or Lamborghini. The notable bit is, instead, it's ambitious design/marketing theory – called "Project Global" – that will end up putting this car on the international radar after it debuts in Detroit. We wouldn't be surprised if certain German auto makers adopted this theory in the near future, leveraging this "flexibility required to accommodate regional needs and regulations as well as market trends and new customer demands in markets as diverse as Japan, North America, Russia, Asia-Pacific and Europe."

This is only a concept right now but ah, what a dream, hot coffee on demand in your car. The Nespresso InCar coffee machine is just one of the winners of the Nespresso design contest which were revealed at the Milan furniture fair Salone del Mobile.  Nespresso created the concept for European design students to imagine the future of the capsule coffee. The  winning concept was the Nespresso Card from Simone Spalvieri and Valentina Del Ciotto of the Politecnico di Milano in Italy that holds  coffee preferences for registered individuals. The card is a personal chipcard and won the €12,000 cash prize. Thijs van Cuyk and Lavrans Laading from Artez Academie Arnhem in The Netherlands created the Nespresso InCar and picked up  € 7,000 for their trouble. Proibito Concept Dinghy

Christian Grande & Partners Design Studio has created a new concept meant to update the humble rubber dinghy used to take people from their larger boats. The Proibito has a relaxing area at the bow and the driving console can be lowered to make the entire boat one smooth plane for relaxing and soaking up the sun. The boat which is still in the concept stage is 10.7 meters long and can, with the right motor, hit a speed of 60 knots. After the jump, a picture of the dinghy in sunbather mode.
