Charles Dickens' Dog's Collar Sold for $11,590

Charles Dickens Dog Collar
A dog collar that once belonged to Charles Dickens was sold at Bonhams New York's 28th dog art sale last month and went for well above its pre-auction estimates of $4,000-$6,000. The collar, made of leather and brass and inscribed with Dickens' name (and address?), sold for $11,590. Although the final price was more than twice what was expected it's not completely without precedent: last year an ivory and gold toothpick that once belonged to Dickens went for $9,150. Dickens was known for being fond of dogs and this collar certainly looks well-worn.

Duke of Windsor's Dog Collars to be Sold for $3000

Dog lovers around the world have the 11th and 12th of next month marked on their calendars -- the dates of the Westminster Kennel Club's 132nd All-Breed Dog Show. But that's not the only big canine-related event set to happen that week. In New York at Bonhams several dog collars that used to belong to the Duke of Windsor will go up for auction. The auction is set to coordinate with the dog show, and 5 leather collars that were worn by the Duke and Duchess' pug dogs will be going up for sale and are expected to go for as much as $3000. One collar even has a tag that reads "I belong to the Duke of Windsor." How quaint.

For the cat or dog with serious style and taste, and a flair for all things sparkly, this Crystal Collar from Harrod's is a must have. It's black leather studded with row after row of swarovski crystals, and it's available in three adjustable sizes (can't have ill-fitting crystal!).

With bling like this on, anything but a full-out strut is out of the question for your pet -- and as an added benefit walks in the dusk or dark will be safer due to the natural reflective properties! Sells for $224.

Ostrich Leather Collar & Lead Set

It has become so common to see dogs dressed in little sweaters or tucked away in a handbag that the standard collar-leash combo has almost fallen out of fashion. Fortunately for those whose dogs are a bit too large to put up with wearing puffy pink sweaters, it hasn't and a high-quality set makes a great gift for the non-frilly pet lover. This Ostrich Collar & Lead Set has fine ostrich leather on a plain leather backing accented with brass hardware, including a loop for the lead to attach to. The set is also available with a harness instead of a straight collar and comes in four colors. Price: $350.

The Ice Collar

Not as over-the-top as the crystal Christmas tree collar that was on our pets' gift lists last year, the Ice Collar is still a pretty blingy way to accessorize your pooch. The collar is made of Italian crocodile-embossed leather in high-gloss black and is studded generously with two rows of Swarovski crystals. Prices range from $78 to $110, depending on size.

If you have a very small dog, you might want to opt for the teacup version of the collar, which comes in both black and bright red.
