Cocoa Gourmet Chocolate Jewels

The blog Jewelry Insider hit upon a great item that combines jewels and chocolate -- perfection! A Swiss chocolate company, Cocoa Gourmet, has created what its calls its "Royal Collection," which features 12 chocolates made with safe-to-eat gold or silver, or sprinkled with diamonds. Priced at $1,250, the collection has four 22-carat gold chocolates, four pure silver chocolates and four sweet diamond pieces. There's also a $520 Gemstone Collection. Lovely, and an unusual gift idea, but I'm not convinced that ingesting metal is such a hot idea, though I guess if you have dental work you're ingesting it all the time ... La Maison du Chocolat Tree

Other chocolate companies aim for a more traditional tree but at La Maison due Chocolat they are going Cubist. The tree is a sculpture composed completely of chocolate and decorated in a variety of round and square shapes that are artistic as well as delectable The design is meant to allude to the artwork of Robert and Sonia Delaunay. The base is filled with dark chocolate pralines infused with mandarin and a milk chocolate praline infused with winter spices. The tree sells for $138. Alas they can't ship something quite this precarious so unless you are lucky enough to be in New York, London or Paris this season you'll have to content yourself with the more equally delectable boxed chocolates.

Desage Chocolatier

Did you know cocoa beans were once used as currency by the Maya and Aztecs? Desage Chocolatier wraps their confections in gold foil as an homage to this. Desage has a long French tradition of chocolate making that dates back to the days of Napoleon. The brand existed in Paris for many years and then took their French traditions to Las Vegas in 1977. They take at least four days to make each individual bar. The chocolate is sold through Neiman Marcus and is also available online. A small box sells for $20.
