The Centaurus

It took a posting on the new Reporting Luxury blog to bring my attention to The Centaurus. I am not sure how I missed this one, it looks like a very exciting project. The Centaurus is a $350 million project being developed in Islamabad, Pakistan. The project is located on over six acres of land in Islamabad's arterial corridor, The Blue Area. The complex will have a 37-story seven-star hotel, two 21-story residential towers, a 25-story corporate office tower, and a five-story shopping mall. The project is also known as "the identity" of Pakistan and is being built in the hopes of attracting major conferences and events. Apartments are already for sale with a penthouse listed at £1,750,000.

Moscow Tops Priciest Cities List, Again

The list of 2007's priciest cities is out, and Moscow gets spot #1 for the second year in a row. The top 50 includes a whopping 30 European cities, with London jumping 3 spots to claim 2nd place and Copenhagen, Geneva, Zurich, and Oslo also making the top 10. It looks like New York was the highest ranking U.S. city, falling in the teens just behind Milan, St Petersberg, and Paris.

A number of factors contributed to the high cost of living ranking for so many European cities, and the Swiss consulting firm Mercer that conducted the survey credits both rises in accommodation prices (especially in London and Moscow) and the strength of the various European currencies.

London Homes are the Most Expensive

Experts say that homes in London are the most expensive in the world. Property in the most desirable areas of the city average $2,300 per sq. foot, compared to $1,900 in New York City. The reason for the high prices is largely that London is, from a business perspective, a perfect place to live. Its time zone means that businesses have overlapping business hours with companies in the US and the Middle East and the fact that more than 50% of the housing market is owned by foreign buyers reinforces the city's position as an global hub. From all appearances, the trend of rising property prices will continue as the number of Asian buyers, which has grown by 60% in the last five years, is still on the rise, bringing new business and more money into the city.

Cityscape Wallpaper

The Cityscape Hangers were charming, but small. The Cityscape Wallpaper collection, on the other hand, turns an ordinary room into a show worthy one, creating a uniquely contemporary wall design without the repetitious patterns that wallpapers typically feature. Printed on high-quality paper, the print is made from a custom drawing. The skyline would make a sunning accent wall, and using the paper all-over would definitely create a metropolitan atmosphere in a large, open loft. There are six different colors available in the collection, with the "City Mirage" pictured here. Price: £143.00 per roll.

I [heart] LA

It seems like a lot of people, celebrities in particular, are very bi-coastal these days. We know that they must have more of an affinity for New York or LA. To let everyone know about your preference, check out these textured disc pendants by Zoe Chicco. They feature scripted "I [heart] NY" or "I [heart] LA" on sterling silver ($150), 10k gold ($330) or 14k gold ($420). All the discs are 1 1/2-inches in diameter and are suspended from 18-inch chains, in silver or 14K gold, as appropriate. A necklace like this would also make a beautiful graduation gift for a daughter/niece/etc who is going off to college in, or departing from, one of these cities.
