Christofle Galéa Flatware

christofle galea flatware
The Christofle brand has always been synonymous with luxury and fine goods especially when it comes to choosing dining pieces for a wedding registry. I'm especially taken with the Galéa Flatware which is a reinterpretation of an ornamental motif created by acclaimed flatware designer Nicolas Cornu back in 1775. The most distinctive element is the double interlacing design which is at once both classical and modern in its style. Available in both silver and sterling silver the Galéa Flatware can be purchased in both individual pieces as well as sets for 1, 6, or 12.

ice bucketCertainly if you're planning the big event you're also looking for those timeless pieces that will adorn your table in the years to come. Classic serving and cocktail pieces don't have to be dull especially when your guests are willing to spend a little extra cash. A registry built around Christofle's line is sure to speak volumes about your premium taste in tabletop items. Established in 1830, Christofle created silverware for French royalty, including King Louis-Phillipe and Emperor Napoleon III. Royal standards meet modern design and successfully suit the most discerning of customers. (The gallery below may help convince any indecisive fiances -- prices range from $210 to $1,680).

Fall is a wonderful time for cut flowers, not to mention with the holidays coming up soon everybody will be bringing and buying bouquets as gifts, but this beautiful Tall Palm Vase by Christofle will mostly likely only be enjoyed by a select few due to its sky high price tag of $16,000. Christofle Silver Martini Glasses

Whether you prefer yours shaken or stirred, a martini is almost sure to be a success when served in one of these Silver Martini Glasses from Christofle. Designed by Adam Tihany and chef Thomas Keller, these glasses are made of a combination of polished and brushed silver, and are extremely simple in shape and style.

Although they have a classy appeal, I think not being able to see through the glass to the drink inside takes from the experience somehow. But then, maybe, it makes for a new experience altogether? Sold in sets of two for $375.

Vertigo Salt & Pepper Shakers

The Vertigo Salt and Pepper Shakers from Christofle look simply divine - and more than a little bit angelic - as far as salt shakers go. They are made of Christofle Silver and each is topped with a signature ring, as well as by the opening from which seasonings are dispensed. Andrée Putman is the designer behind the Vertigo collection, which strives for both balance and beauty in tableware. Each stands 4 1/3-in. tall. Price: $160.

Diamond-Studded Flatware from Christofle

The Malmaison Classique Flatware set made by Christofle is as close to dining perfection as you can get without carving eating implements directly from precious gems. The collection includes knives, forks and spoons made of sterling silver (knife blades are stainless steel) and trimmed in diamonds of exceptional quality. Each one of the diamonds is hand set in France, so it takes several months to complete each flatware set. Price: $18,600, which includes one of each: dinner fork, dinner knife, soup spoon, salad fork, and teaspoon. To make a table setting for eight diners, you'll need $148,800.

Limited Edition Christofle Square Tray

Christofle is known for their elegant silver pieces and this limited edition Square Tray is a standout. Designed by Michele Oka Doner, the 15.5-inch tray is hand-carved "to express natural textures." Every one of the 50 trays is signed and numbered. Price: $7,600.

On a slightly different note, did you know that Vivre has recipes on their website? I would think that someone looking for a recipe would turn to Slashfood, a cookbook or another ell-established recipe source, rather than to an online shopping site, but the recipes are contributed by La Grenouille restaurant, so at least there is some credibility behind them. This month's is Oysters with Champagne, a festive first course (served on a silver platter, of course) for a New Year's party.

Christofle Water Decanters

Designed by Serge Mansau, this pair of Christofle Water Decanters is elegant enough to steal the spotlight from almost any wine decanter, no matter how got the wine in it is. The pair has one container for plain water and one for sparkling. The still water decanter has a bulb-like shape, which allows the water to "rest" at the bottom. The sparkling water decanter has curves opposite to the still decanter, shaped so that the air bubbles in the water can "rise to the top." Each stands 13.75-in and has a matching stopper. Price: $415 each.

Limited Edition Silver Xbox 360 by Christofle

While we're not really into gaming here at Luxist, we do like our games to be glam, if at all possible. At the Colette boutique in Paris, Christofle is offering five solid-silver, limited edition faceplates for the X-Box 360. Only five will be released in the whole world, so if you want one you will have to snag it as soon as possible when they are released later this year. Each one is priced at around €1000 ($1,260 US).

Christofle B.Y. Decanter

I admit that I had to look carefully at this decanter before I figured out how it was able to balance so well with its ring design. Actually, first I had to stop staring, because it is a gorgeous piece of work by Christofle. The B.Y. Decanter holds 25.5-ounces and is made of elegantly shaped glass that is set in a silver-plated ring. The ring balances on a tabletop stand, giving the sense that the decanter could move itself - perhaps to refill your glass - at any time. Price: $590.
