"Forward in Time" Wooden Floor Clock

Filed under: Decor, Timepieces / Watches

This design strikes me as something out of a dream -- a little curvy and abstract, slightly warped and out-of-whack looking, but in a very peaceful and artistic way. For being a modern contemporary design it also has a nice "warm fuzzy" vibe. It's the "Forward in Time" wooden floor clock, and created by Brian Hubel it's made of thick-skinned black cherry with ebony accents on the clock face. Available in the extremely limited edition of only 5, this clock stands 70"H x 23"W x 13.5"D and goes for $6600.

Harp Chair

Now I haven't had the luxury of actually sitting in this chair, but based on the looks of it and the fact that it's largely made of string makes me think it's probably very comfortable. Designed by Jordan Hoveltskov in 1963 the harp chair is surprisingly simple: it's a lounge chair made of 2 pieces of solid wood (your choice of natural ash, black stained ash, American cherry, or natural oak) combined with string. That's it. It does look a little like a harp from certain angles, but don't get your hopes up -- it doesn't play music. $1128-$11250

Amarena Mon Amour Chocolates

Chocolat Moderne's Amarena Mon Amour chocolate collection is a visually stunning - and tastebuds pleasing - gift for your Valentine. The hand-painted ruby and gold bonbons are shaped to look like large, cut gemstones and they come packed in a red crocodile leather box. Each of the chocolates contains a large, sweet-tart Amarena cherry soaked in a vodka-infused syrup for a really grown-up cherry cordial. Each box includes 18 chocolates. Price: $60.

Too Peace Table

The Too Peace Table is a balancing act, it's two pieces maintaining the perfect angle needed to support it. Don't be fooled by the delicate look, though: there is actually a small stainless steel leg behind the solid wooden base that makes this table as sturdy as you could need it to be. The table is available in solid ebonized oak (pictured), which would be a good choice for a modern black/white themed room, or solid cherry, for something warmer. The tabletop is solid glass. Prices: $1,600 (oak); $1,800 (cherry).

Taffy Mirror

Occasionally, wall art does more than just look good. It can carry a message or even seem to come live, as does the Taffy Mirror from designer David Hurwitz. The mirror is carved and sculpted from natural cherry wood, painted on one side and enriched with a hand-applied Danish oil and varnish finish on the other. It has a distinct flow about it, almost as though whatever is reflected in the mirror is coming towards you and into the room. It would work well in a living room or entryway, as well as in a child's room, where the bright color would be a lovely focal point. It measures 15"H x 12"W x 2"D. Price: $1200.

Wud Bookcase

Shelving units do not normally take center stage in any room. In offices, the focus is on the desk and even in libraries, the focus is on the books, not the bookcases. This compartmentalized bookcase, designed and manufactured by Wud, deserves to be at the center of attention. It looks a bit like a Tetris construction, although the way that it is sectioned makes it extremely useful for storing many things, in addition to books. The unit has a drop-down desk, two large filing cabinets and several closed cabinets. It can be made of cherry, maple or walnut and measures 94"l x 22" x 96". Price: $8,500.

Cherrywood Salt Box and Gray Salt

Artisan salts are the trendiest thing since cupcakes and, in much the same way that cupcakes replaced larger cakes and other desserts at bakeries across the country, the specialty salts are popping up in homes, markets and at high-end restaurants. If you're going to spend as much as $2 per ounce on salt (versus $.02 on regular table salt), you need some way to show it off - and a salt shaker isn't going to cut it, let alone fit the large flakes that specialty salts come in. This Cherrywood Salt Box is elegant, with a sliding let that allows for one-handed use and a full view of the Gray Salt that is included. One pound of salt, plus the 5"D x 3"H box, is just $89.

Cherry Wood Filing Cabinets

Filing cabinets do not usually fall into the category of furniture that can be described as classy. Usually made of grey, beige or black metal, the cabinets are tucked away in some back room and are only accessed when a file or record is needed. It's not that the need to be hidden, just that they don't really match anything. Far classier than any standard metal filing cabinets are these Cherry Wood Filing Cabinets from Hammacher Schlemmer, handmade from hardwood harvested in the Adirondack Mountains. The stackable cabinets also have an anti-tip mechanism and can be attached directly to the walls for additional support, if necessary. Price: $1,629.

Miniature versions of things are often very cute, so it's not a shock when people ohh and ahh over animals. Small size and human-like qualities , combined with dashing good looks, makes pets all the more endearing.
