Bid For A Stay On Donna Karan's Private Estate

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Auctions

Many celebrities own lavish vacation homes and some of them, luckily, like to share. Fashion designer Donna Karan has donated a stay on her private estate on Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos for auction on the charity auction site charitybuzz.com to raise funds for The Ellen Hermanson Foundation. The foundation was established in 1997 to honor the memory of Ellen Hermanson, a crusader in the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from the auction will help fund the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital.

Karan's estate, known simply as "The Sanctuary," is a Zen-like family retreat in easy reach of white sand beaches and turquoise waters. It has an infinity pool lined with black volcanic stone and the home is graced with Karan's collection of African and Asian art that adorns the white walls. The vacation up for bid is for eight people for four days and the auction ends on September 8. The lot is valued at over $40,000 and has a minimum next bid of $17,000.

CharityBuzz Auctions Italian Lots For Charity

Italian style in all its fabulousness forms the focus of Charitybuzz's first international charity auction. The auction is a debut for the launched charitybuzzEurope platform and benefits the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation of Europe. The auction runs until July 8 and includes uniquely Italian experiences like the chance to meet Andrea Bocelli backstage after you see him perform in Tuscany, Italy; lunch with Ferruccio Ferragamo, chairman of Ferragamo; a day with Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia Editor in Chief; a papal mass with Pope Benedict XVI and tour of the Vatican; a weekend of wine tasting at the Ferrari Estate in Trent and a day on the set of Giovanni Veronesi's upcoming movie, "Manuale d'Amore 3" plus two tickets to the premiere in Rome, Italy.

"By bidding on these incredible experiences, people will be supporting cutting-edge human rights defenders from around the world, including those fighting for the right to water and reconstruction in Haiti, the victims of the BP oil disaster, citizens of Darfur working for the peace process, and more," said Kerry Kennedy, honorary president of RFK Europe. "And, donors will help the next generation, including 180,000 Italian high school students now enrolled in the Speak Truth to Power human rights education curriculum, learning how to make change for a more just and peaceful world."

Bid to Attend The Vanity Fair Party in Cannes

Charitybuzz auctions all kinds of goods, none of them are the random thingamabobs you're used to bidding for on eBay: one of Lady Gaga's autographed pianos, seven days in a spa in the Maldives, or tennis lessons from John McEnroe, for instance. That's the "buzz" part; the charity comes in the fact that portions of every auction go to help... well, a given charity.

One of the auctions nearing its end is for tickets to two parties during the Cannes Film Festival: the Vanity Fair soiree hosted by magazine editor Graydon Carter and Gucci's Frida Giannini to honor Martin Scorsese, and The Weinstein Company party to fete the festival entrant Blue Valentine. At the time of writing the bidding was up to just $3,750. If you're going to be in Cannes anyway and you're free those nights, you'll be hard pressed to find a better use for a few grand. The auction benefits the Center for the Advancement of Women, but hurry – the auction ends tomorrow.

Changing the World Through Art: Christie's Time In Benefit

Liya Alfred by Brian Alfred

Christie's own New York gallery outpost Haunch of Venison is hosting a special benefit Monday night for The Time In Children's Arts Initiative, a HiArt! outreach program that is dedicated to bringing arts-inspired curriculum to at-risk schoolkids.

Galleries all over the city and individual artists have donated special works and experience packages to the auction to raise much needed funds, as schools across the city continue to cut their art budgets. Time In has spent the last year immersing Harlem kindergarteners and first graders in art, including gifting them with art supplies to sketch in HiArt! studios or in museums and galleries across the city. It's an inspiring new program that is set to grow exponentially with a little help from New York art patrons.

Shepard Fairey Barack Obama Painting Auctioned For Charity

Filed under: Auctions, Celebrity Shopping, Art, Charity

When contemporary art cult fave Shepard Fairey started "campaigning" for Barack Obama, he created original collages assembling inspiring portraits of Obama above titles like HOPE, PROGRESS and CHANGE. We saw them silkscreened on tee shirts worn by the likes of Ryan Phillippe that soon became impossible to get, selling for thousands on eBay. Now for the true connoisseur -- of politics and art -- the rare opportunity exists to bid on one of the original three pieces, OBAMA HOPE. Currently at $60,000, the piece is being auctioned by Westport, CT-based CharityBuzz, which will donate profits to the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, providing access to the arts to disadvantaged urban youth. CharityBuzz will accept bids until July 24, but if you miss this potentially revolutionary piece of art, you can at least order the sticker version online at Sticker Robot. Big spender yours truly just snagged ten of them.
