We've seen the rise of "voluntourism" and eco-tourism of the luxe variety (think private bugalow in Figi, not hippie yurt). But giving back and luxury travel have rarely been an oft-cited pair. Until, that is, CharityFolks.com came on the scene, crafting unique travel plans including exclusive meet-and-greets like an evening with the cast of The Sopranos, then sending along the proceeds to charity. Each trip functions as an auction, so you'll need to get your virtual paddle up if you want to claim jaunts like a weekend at the Newport Jazz Festival, or luxe accommodations at Vail. The site hosts more traditional charity auctions as well, which have been written about here in the past, but if you planned to stay at the Four Seasons whilst touring Provence anyway, why not do it through an organization that will then donate on your behalf to UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center?Win-Win Vacations: Luxe Travel Meets Big Donations

Waterkeeper Alliance, Charity of the Day
Today, for the fifth day in our month-long exploration of charitable organizations worthy of your time and money, we are talking about water. Waterkeeper Alliance is an organization that champions clean water and strong communities in a rather unique way, by giving each body of water its own champion. Each Waterkeeper program is headed by a full-time Waterkeeper who is the the public advocate for that body of water. The Waterkeeper is essentially the guardian of the particular watershed and the people who rely on its services. The Waterkeeper Alliance is a coalition of more than 160 local Waterkeepers who patrol and protect their local waterbody, standing up to polluters and guaranteeing everyone's right to clean water. One of the ways to help the Waterkeepers is to become an eAdvocate and sign up for their action alerts. This week you can also splurge for this good cause. This year,Waterkeeper Alliance has partnered with charitybuzz for an online auction which ends on Dec 7, 2007 which is part of the 16th Annual Deer Valley Celebrity Ski fest. The top lot for the online auction is the Lexus LS 600h L which has a 430+ horsepower V8 full-hybrid engine. Other auction lots include a visit to the set of Law & Order: SVU, a heli-skiing trip for four, lunch with William Baldwin on the set of Dirty, Sexy Money, dinner with Nick Lachey or the chance to go falconing with Robert Kennedy Jr.

The yellow 2005 Lamborghini Gallardo tcovered with dozens of celebrity autographs that I mentioned was up for auction yesterday did quite well. It sold for $500,000 to a Houston collector who also made some other impressive purchases during Kruse International's annual Labor Day weekend auction. Not only did John O'Quinn pick up the Lambo which was signed by Regis Philbin, Hugh Hefner, Paula Abdul, Will Ferrell, Bruce Willis and others as part of a fundraiser for the Child Safety Network, he also spent $335,000 on a Batmobile used in the film Batman Forever, $250,000 on a 1938 Cadillac Town Car used by Pope Pius XII and $290,000 for a 1941 Packard limousine used by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. You may remember O'Quinn's name from last year when he paid $690,000 at a Kruse auction in Las Vegas last year for a 1975 Ford Escort GL once owned by Pope John Paul II.Rolling Stones Mercedes Auction

In order to support the Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang tour, Mercedes-Benz is auctioning off a Rolling Stones Edition R-Class and Fender Telecaster guitar, both signed by each member of the Rolling Stones. The auction will run on eBay from April 10-20 and profits will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. The car has an airbrushed Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang design as well as Rolling Stones embroidered headrests and floor mats. You can pre-register online now for bidding ease later. And here, I thought Jack Osbourne's BMW was the height of rock tackiness.
