Gresso's 'Lady Diamond' Phone

I'm not one to usually be very impressed with jewel-studded cell phones, because even if they're pretty to look at they always seem so gaudy and impractical to actually use. But the design of this Lady Diamond phone by Gresso seems to have a nice balance of sleek common sense and indulgent luxury. Made in a limited edition of only 8 phones (seems like an odd number...) it's basically a red version of Gresso's Skeleton Gold model with 4 tiny diamonds on the center keys. It has the same 42K sapphire crystal display and transparent back as the Skeleton Gold, but the price is significantly higher at $5500.

The Motorola RAZR LK

Despite being out of the spotlight lately, Motorola hasn't given up on the RAZR and they've released a new, luxe model of the popular phone called the Motorola RAZR LúK. It's only available in one color but we think you won't mind since it's classic pearl white combined with equally classic (and shiny!) 18k gold plating. The phone's shape, keyplate, and flip design all remain unchanged but the interior specs of this 3G model are updated with HSDPA connectivity, video calling, bluetooth, and pretty much everything else you'd expect in a RAZR. I love it.

Are Landline Phones Only for the Rich?

It used to be that having a mobile phone was a fairly expensive treat but oh how things have changed. In a strange twist it now seems that owning a landline has become the true luxury.

A recent Nielsen survey found that not only have 17% of homes already gone landline-less but that number is predicted to jump to a full 1/5 of the population (20%) by the end of the year.

So what's causing this trend? Finances, for most. It's a cold hard fact that for most people cell phones are cheaper to own and operate than landlines, all factors considered, and in today's ever-tightening economy luxuries like home phone service are getting cut out. Who would have thought, expensive and fancy as cell phones are getting these days, that the real status symbol would become the clunky home phone?

Vertu Phones For Boucheron's 150th Anniversary

As we saw a couple months ago, to celebrate Boucheron's 150th anniversary, the jeweler is partnering with other companies to create some amazing pieces. Two years ago Boucheron and luxury phone maker Vertu created extravagant bejeweled snake phones. The seven signature phones each contain 388 mechanical parts and each has a removable jeweled charm. Each has a gold case and a different design of pavé jewels. No word on the price yet but they are assumed to be into the six figures at least.

Plantronic's New Jewelry-Like Earpiece

Here's a Bluetooth earpiece that manages to be quite fancy looking without having any Swarovski crystal or gold plated "bling." The Plantronics Discovery 925 has a unisex VFrame™ design and is available in 3 jewel tone colors (black, gold, and pink) with a cute color-coordinated leather carrying case and charger included. According to this review the features are pretty average, with the exception of excellent audio quality thanks to AudioIQ noise control technology. The Black Onyx version is available now, with the Alchemy Gold and Cerise Pink shipping next month. $149.00

The Diamond-Studded Gold Motorola V3i

Peter Aloisson has released a new design in the "way too expensive and over-the-top" cell phone category: the diamond studded gold Motorola V3i. The golden stainless steel case is hand-set with 855 diamonds, totaling 3.8 carats altogether. Of course it comes with all the same cool features as the regular Motorola V3i, and sells for a mere $10,000.

So, when this phone is obsolete a few months from now, what happens to all those little diamonds?

Samsung Teams With Versace To Make Versus Phones

The latest fashion phone comes from Samsung which has teamed up with Versus, the younger-skewed Versace line to bring forth a new Versus E500 phone. The SGH-E500 is a clamshell mobile phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player and Bluetooth. The phone goes on sale in Italy in August. The flashy luxe styling is exactly what we'd expect from a Versace branding but it doesn't exactly inspire gadget envy in me.

Motorola Pink SLVR Phone

Yet another pink phone hits the market. Motorola and Carphone Warehouse in the UK to launch have launched a limited edition Pink Motorola SLVR L6.  The shade is similar to Verizon pink Razr only perhaps a bit more bubble gum. Our siblings at Engadget Mobile covered this a few days ago and the commenters definitely think the shade is particularly noxious. Still, I bet there are a lot of pink phones fans here in the States that will be clamoring for this one.

Pininfarina To Make Phones For Motorola

Italian design firm Pininfarina will create mobile phones for Motorola over the next few years. Pininfarina, famed for sleek sportscar designs for Ferrari and Maserati, the latest Olympic torch (shown here) and much more will dedicate a team of ten to the project. The deal runs from March 2006 to March 2009. Will they out-sexy the Razr? Who knows but maybe this means I can finally have my dream of a Ferrari red phone.
