Ebony Macassar Clutch, Handbag of the Day

This Ebony Macassar Wooden Clutch by Celestina strikes me as very retro, what with all the dark woodgrain and the symmetrically placed tagnipis studs on the front, and in this case that's a good thing. It's a long oval shape with a hinge at the base and a concealed magnetic fastening at the top, so it stays closed without any visible hardware. It also has a suede lining (to soften the wood, I assume) and comes with a small mirror.

My only complaint? Looks a little inconvenient/awkward to hold onto. $755

Woven Silver Filigree Clutch, Handbag of the Day

This is a unique clutch that I absolutely LOVE. It's the Woven Silver Filigree Clutch by Celestina and it not only looks different than a lot of clutches, but it handles differently also -- by opening at the middle into two halves. Made of woven sterling silver with a wooden base filigree detail, it's small (only about 6" x 5" x1") and has hard curved sides. There's no fabric lining inside, just a small wooden plaque embossed with the designer's logo and a wood-backed vanity mirror. $1,695

You gotta love a handbag that's named after a fruit, but the Celestina Mango Box Clutch is lovable for more reasons than just that one. It's not only a beautiful shade of candy pink shagreen but its stingray box clutch design has natural daniela wood trim for something a little different than the norm of gold or silver metal hardware. Celestina Shagreen Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Shagreen is one of those materials that photos just don't do justice. The sharkskin leather has to be seen in person to be appreciated for its unique feel and luster. This simple forest green shagreen clutch is padded and edged in bone. The bag is part of the Celestina line designed by Tina Maristela-Ocampo, a former fashion model who has been dubbed the Filipino Judith Leiber for her tiny, expensive and beautiful clutches using shagreen, mother of pearl, brass, shell and other expensive materials.
