A Picture (Cake) is Worth a 1,000 Calories

SusieCakes, a custom-cake bakery already well-known to Southern Californians, has gotten some big mileage nationally from two "guest cake appearances" on the popular Bravo "Million Dollar Listing" show. Realty agent Chad Rogers shows off the confectionery artwork in a segment where he holds an open house (with the $700 cake showing the house and "Cake Chad" standing outside it, dressed identically to "Real Chad.") The cakes made a repeat appearance in another episode about Rogers getting legal joint custody of Starla, the longhaired Chihuahua he shares with his girlfriend, who is much prettier than her cake.

Custom cake orders are extremely popular and account for over half of SusieCakes' sales. All the desserts are made on-site in one of the four locations, and follow traditional recipes -- read: They use real sugar and real butter. Being purists, SusieCakes only uses buttercream or cream cheese frosting - no fondant or marzipan.

Chad isn't the first celebrity to have ordered a custom cake from SusieCakes. Frequent patrons have included Brooke Shields, Marcia Cross, Laura Dern, Kobe Bryant, Maria Shriver, and Jim Belushi.

Mariah Carey Is Cuckoo For Butterflies

Filed under: Celebrity Shopping, Cosmetics and Fragrance

Mariah Carey loves butterflies. From album covers to temporary tattoos, the singer likes to surround herself with the delicate insect's image. Even her new perfume, M, features a butterfly stopper on the bottle. But it is Lalique's so-called Butterfly scent that has attracted her like a butterfly to a flower. She recently shelled out $13,200 for a case of the exclusive, limited edition perfume simply because she loved the bottle design - an etched crystal bottle adorned with a beautiful butterfly stopper. It may not just be the pretty bottle that led her to purchase the pricey perfume - a source told In Touch Weekly that she thinks the scent will make her actually smell like a butterfly. Do butterflies even have a scent?

Lindsay and Low Class Luxury?

Lindsay Lohan entered rehab this week and sources reported that the 20 year old actress was "carrying a dark Balenciaga bag and a Jamba Juice drink." The question here is does this affect that brand name? Since Lohan isn't connected to the fashion house except as a consumer (and occasional model), what she does or does not do shouldn't have an impact on the brand, nor should what any other celebrity does. But it is well known that getting celebs to carry or wear your products can result in a sales boost. When negative press is associated with a brand name, or matter how tangentially, does that cause their sales to drop off?

In other words, if you know that a handbag, or other luxury item, is also very popular with a less-than-respectable group, does it cause you to rethink your choices when shopping?

New Must-Have For Celebs?

If you're going to be buying a Christmas present for a celebrity friend this year, you might want to take a look at what Lindsay Lohan just bought herself. TMZ reports that she picked up a pair of diamond-encrusted gold handcuffs at Fred Segal in Beverly Hills for $820. She's wearing them around a long gold chain, so it is anyone's guess as to whether she feels its more of a fashion statement to wear them that way or whether she's just worried about not having them on hand when she needs them. Traditionalists - and cops - will want to stick with the standard silver cuffs, but you can't deny that gold brings a certain amount of luxury to a decidedly un-luxe object.

Madonna's Spending Spree for New Son

Madonna wants her new 13-month old adopted son, David Banda, to grow up with all the comforts his little heart could desire. To this end, she spent about $28,000 (£15,000) on decorations for his nursery and toys for him to play with. Her purchases include a child-sized electric car, a $9,300 (£5,000) rocking horse and a "designer wardrobe." For his room, she installed "giant murals of tigers and lions," a surround-sound stereo system for playing classical music and a set of cotton and cashmere sheets for his bed.

Apparently, some of the residents of David's village in Malawi were shocked to hear of the amount she spent and noted that such an amount "could have paid for 10,000 chickens and 500 goats, or 10 mud huts."

Lindsay's $1M Hotel Bill

How do you rack up a $1 million dollar hotel bill? It's not easy, even if you're staying at the $37,000 per night Hotel Martinez in Cannes or in the $25,000 per night Bridge Suite at the Atlantis. Lindsay Lohan managed to pull off this rather impressive feat while staying at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood. Apparently, the 19-year old actress "tries to keep [a] bungalow reserved on the off chance she'll pop into LA." The bungalows at the Chateau start at $1700 per night. Lohan spent a large portion of that money on things like room service - including $550 per bottle Cristal - and using the $700 per day personal chauffer service the hotel offers.

Britney's Baby Shopping

Since we all now know that Britney Spears is pregnant again, it's no surprise to see that she's out buying some new baby things. At least, she's browsing for baby things because she doesn't yet know the gender of the baby. She headed out to Petit Tresor in Los Angeles to look at their elegant and adorable line of baby furniture. Britney's hoping for a girl, so you can be sure that she had her eyes on some of the frilly, girly designs in the boutique. For now, though, she kept her son, Sean Preston under wraps in a Carezza Minifur Blanket. The blanket is made of soft Italian yarn, in blue or pink, with sabbia suede on one side. Price: $149.

She also appears to be a big fan of the Margherita place settings from Richard Ginori. The china is inspired by Missoni's colorful striped designs and starts at $56 for a soup plate.
