Luxist Review and Giveaway: Paris Hilton's Tease Perfume

Paris Hilton has quite the perfume empire. The indomitable heiress is releasing her tenth scent this month. Tease was inspired by another showy blonde, Marilyn Monroe. The box features a black and white image of Paris posed as a blonde bombshell. The pictures were shot in Los Angeles by Tony Duran. "I am all about being alluring, but with a wink, and a fun, fresh take on all that is enticingly feminine about a woman today," says Hilton in a press release.

Tease is a good name for this scent, it's not a sugar slam like many of her other scents. Sure, the fruity sweetness is there but it comes on soft in a powdery whisper. The scent starts with fruity notes of fresh Fuji apple, sunny sea mist accord, white peach nectar and Sparkling Bergamot. The heart is full of white florals: frangipani petals, night-blooming jasmine and creamy tuberose. Even the base is soft, winding up with golden amber, blonde woods and warm sand accord. It would be hard to dislike this one, Hilton has called the scent sweet and flirty and it is but like a flirt it disappears before you have time to really consider it, leaving behind just a fluffy warm memory.

The scent was created for Parlux by Steve DeMercado who has spent 20 years in the perfume business.

Luxist Review and Giveaway: With Love... Hilary Duff

with love by hilary duffThis one came out years ago but a bottle recently came my way so I thought I'd share it and my thoughts with you. Like its namesake, With Love... Hilary Duff with most likely resonate with someone a bit younger than myself. The scent from the popular singer and actress is aimed at teens and young women and has that familiar vanilla sweetness associated with dewy youth. But there's a little bit more going on here.

Amidst all the sweet amber, sparkling fruit and everpresent musk there's just enough spice to make it interesting. That may be why it became so popular when it launched a couple years back. The fragrance billed as an effervescent oriental has top notes of magnosteen fruits with a hint of spice. A heart of cocobolo wood and a base of amber and musk ground the scent in familiar territory. Right out of the gate it was one of the top sellers at department stores and it was nominated for Best Celebrity Women's Fragrance in The 8th Annual Basenotes Awards (it lost out to M by Mariah Carey).

I'm giving away the 1.7 ounce With Love...Hilary Duff Eau De Parfum Spray, valued at $45.

RSVIP: Kim Kardashian Brings Sexy to the FIFI Awards

kim kardashian An Oscar is to film and a Tony is to Broadway what a FIFI Award is to fragrance.

On June 10, the 38th Annual FIFI Awards commandeered New York's Downtown Armory, adding a sniff of glamour to the behemoth brick Army post. Kim Kardashian appeared vacuum-packed into a gown by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad. The double breasted scoop in the front, with six large buttons, added gravity-defying lift to Kardashian's ample cleavage. Like everyone at the event, she spoke Fragrancese. "It's basically all my favorite memories in a bottle," said the reality-show star of her eponymous scent, aptly subtitled in the sexy ads, "The voluptuous new fragrance."

"The gardenia [note] is for the family vacations with my dad in Hawaii," she said. "Tuberose reminds me of my mom. All my favorite scents happen to be white florals. I added a bit of orange blossom for citrus," she told Luxist.

Usher, honored as the FIFI's 2010 Fragrance Celebrity of the Year, wore a padded black waistcoat by Alexander McQueen that resembled fencing garb. He called his move into fragrance "the branding of Usher," and speaking of his scent "VIP," he told Luxist, "This will be my fifth fragrance. I wanted intelligence; I wanted elegance. If you look at the advertisements, the weight of the bottle, the essence, it's all top-shelf."

"When everything else comes off," he quipped, "the fragrance stays on."

"I was happy to find my new love, new passion, which is fragrance," he said, then posing with a soldier in fatigues.

Forever Mariah Carey, Girly Grows Up (A Little)

forever mariah careyWhile I wasn't looking forward to giving Forever Mariah Carey a scent test I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Given Mariah's love of butterflies, pink and super exaggerated femininity. I was expecting to be bowled over with bubblegum sweetness. But just as her turn in "Precious" proved, Mariah is more than just a big voice and a larger-than-life persona. The girl's got heart and this scent has plenty of it. It's sweet but the sweetness is subtle and endearing.

The fragrance takes its name from Mariah's single from the Daydream album. This is sort of a dreamlike scent. It's ethereal qualities mean that it's not particularly strong, perhaps a good thing in this case because too much strength might result in a headache inducing scent. It's billed as a modern opulent floral but while the floral is there the modern and opulent seem in short supply. It's not strong enough to really be opulent and it doesn't seem that modern to me. It seems more vintage, like an antique dressing table complete with a large mirror and a powder puff, glamour but with a girlish giggle. Flowers run deep in this one starting with top notes of neroli and lotus blossom and a heart of tuberose and gardenia. Apple notes provide a little relief from the flowers and white musk and exotic woods anchor the scent. It's a whisper of a scent, at least on me, it didn't last very long leaving only a subtle wisp of tuberose and white musk behind.

Forever Mariah Carey was developed by perfumer Olivier Gillotin. The 1.7 ounce perfume sells for $55. I was given a bottle to review and usually give away the bottle to a reader but in this case the top was broken during shipping so I won't be doing that.

Bruce Willis Wants You To Smell "Extremely Masculine"

Filed under: Celebrity Shopping, Cosmetics and Fragrance

bruce willisBruce Willis is jumping on the celebrity "signature fragrance" bandwagon and recently announced to WWD that he'll be launching his own Eau de Parfum this summer. He's creating it in collaboration with German company LR Health & Beauty Systems and all we know about it so far is that, according to CEO Tilo Ploger, "The Bruce Willis scent will be extremely masculine and - starting from ingredients through to design - embodies every individual feature of the Hollywood star: strong, self-confident, consistent."

What that means exactly I'm not sure but it certainly makes sense considering Willis' reputation as a tough guy/hero/bad ass. And since he seems like one of the least likely celebrity men to come out with a signature fragrance I'm more curious than ever to see what it smells like. Look for it debut in Europe this July.
