Castle Kashan, Estate of the Day

Today's estate comes from the Wall Street Journal's Private Properties and is a Scottish-style castle in an unlikely locale. Castle Kashan is a 10,000-square-foot castle in Malibu, California. The castle is the home of Lilly Lawrence the daughter of a former Iranian oil minister. The castle was built in the late 1970s by Dr. Thomas Hodges and was used as a setting for shows such as The Rockford Files. Lilly Lawrence rents out Castle Kashan for weddings and events like the Malibu Film Festival. Lawrence bought the home in 1998 for around $3 million. The six-bedroom castle sits on 2.5 acres and has beautiful ocean views.
One of my favorite new blogs, The RealEstalker took a look at this one recently too and wondered what you do with a place like this. The land is fabulous but the home is, to be kind, a white elephant of the highest order. I think that order to live in a home like this you would pretty much have to surrender to it, designwise. Your own furniture won't work here, unless you are Cher (or a big fan of her Gothic catalog). Like Lilly Lawrence, the "people's princess" you have to be willing to embrace a life as an eccentric. You might need a tiara. And a suit of armor. It is listed at $17 million. After the jump, your kingdom awaits.
