Isa Chandelier

At a distance, the design of the Isa Chandelier seems to imply that it is made of metal, due to its dark color and simple design. The fixture is actually made of solid mindi wood, aged with a limed finish. The graceful lines of the chandelier end in electric candles, whose wires run through the beams and up the included 3-ft chain to the ceiling. It is a beautiful piece and ideal for someone who doesn't want the starkness of metal or the hunting-lodge look of a more rustic wood light fixture. Price: $2,350.

Pirolette by Turn Your Head

Turn Your Head produces art that gets a very personal touch from both you and the designer. They make Pirolettes, which are elegant wooden carvings based on the shape of your profile. If you hold one up, you will see your profile on either side of the object. The Pirolettes stand anywhere from 6"-9" high and are hand carved from Maple, Cherry or Walnut, polished to a high gloss. To have one made, you must submit a photo that shows a good, clear profile and you'll have your own Escher-esque piece of art forever. Price: $249.95 (on sale until Aug. 31st for $149.95)

Electric Guitar Cutting Board

The single most boring thing in the kitchen is a cutting board. Usually, it is a piece of plastic that sits near the sink. Recently, I got a bamboo one, which is very beautiful in addition to being sturdy, but it is still plain. I’m thinking about investing in something fancier, something more fun. Something like the Country Toys Electric Guitar Cutting Board, which is unusually stylish for a wooden kitchen accessory. The cutting board is 3/4-inch thick, so it will last for years of use and, if necessary, refinishing. Handmade from gorgeous purple hardwood, this would look great on a kitchen counter and take up a lot less space than a real guitar and in addition to being more wallet-friendly at $60. There is also an Acoustic Guitar version, for you more traditional types.

Carved and Sculpted Eggs

Carved Dragon Ostrich Egg: $500Forgo those cheap plastic eggs that seem to be overflowing supermarket shelves in the weeks before Easter and satisfy your craving for the seasonal egg-shapes with something that will last. Real eggs of various sizes can be carved and sculpted into a variety of surprising shapes and astonishingly beautiful patterns. Ron Cheruka, the "Egg Man", has been doing egg art for many years and uses modified dental tools with carbide and diamond bits to hand cut every egg that he makes. He uses ostrich, rhea, emu and standard eggs in his work. The emu eggs are visually stunning due to the natural pigments in the shells, which range from teal to black, but the nearly cantaloupe-sized ostrich eggs are the most spectacular. Their thick shells allow for the most detailed carvings, like the dragon pictured here, and the finished egg resembles polished ivory. Dragon Egg Price: $500.
