Smock, Bamboo Letterpress Cards

In the green and gorgeous category are these letterpress cards from Smock. This printshop in upstate New York creates handcrafted products from bamboo paper. Bamboo is a sustainable and renewable resource which requires little water to grow. Smock has partnered with a 500-year-old European paper mill to develop their artisan paper. The bamboo for the paper is harvested in Thailand without use of pesticides or fertilizer and is supplied by local farmers and not harvested from areas where traditional or civil rights are violated, nor does it come from natural forests that have been converted to plantations.

The inks used are vegetable oil based or low VOC and their retail packaging is biodegradable, tree-free and petroleum-free. The store does custom orders for weddings and other social events and notes likes these thank you cards are $18 for eight cards with lined envelopes.

Extreme Credit Cards for the Biggest Spenders in the World

Wealthy patrons with shopping addictions are a tempting customer base for creditors, and so more and more of them are coming up with ways to make their services attractive to the biggest spenders in the world. The Centurion card from American Express is the leading status symbol to date, with its classy black card made of titanium that comes with exclusive perks like a personal concierge (to help you plan your spending) and special treatment at all the top retailers.

But the Centurion, better known simply as the "Black Card," is getting some competition for the top of the prestigious credit card pyramid. Companies like Bank of America and Citigroup are coming up with their own versions, and it seems the greatest competition so far is from the Visa Stratus Rewards card, aka the "White Card." And in the U.K. there's always the Ozwald Boateng-designed Coutts & Co.'s World card from the same private bank Queen Elizabeth uses.

Business cards from Shinebox Print are not only cute in their little box with perforated edges, but you can personalize them however you want by including your own pictures, graphics, layout and everything on the front and back. Of course you can get personalized cards from lots of places, but these are so much more artistic, and a little different. And if you like the idea but don't necessarily want business cards, Shinebox can make calling cards, coupons, or any number of other projects. Prices start at $150.

Mrs. John L. Strong Valentine Cards

Emails may do the trick for most things but for Valentine's Day you are going to need a card. We've swooned over the gorgeous stationery of Mrs. John L. Strong before. No drugstore cheapie card here, these cards have the weight and texture that denote their high quality. There is just a subtle appeal of fine paper as it slides under your fingertips. And paper like this is ideal for writing with a fountain pen, which has the bonus of putting you in that slightly nostalgic and old-fashioned mood which is perfect for committing flowery declarations of love to paper. The card shown here says Sugar or Spice? and then on the inside "both are nice. Happy Valentine's Day. It sells for $15. They have a variety of boutiques for your browsing pleasure. Choose you card then light a Diptyque Tubereuse candle, fill up your Montblanc, pour yourself a glass of a fine White Burgundy (no risking sense risking red wine spills when writing on white paper) and let the love flow.

"The 12 days of Christmas" Card Set

There may be fewer than 12 days left until Christmas, but there is still time to send out some cards before it's too late. The "the 12 days of christmas" card set is a limited edition collection from designer Happy Menocal for black pearl press. The cards are in silver, green, red and orange - all very seasonal colors - and each one showcases one of the items promised in the classic carol. It comes boxed and tied with an elegant ribbon, so even if you don't choose to send them out, they would make a lovely hostess gift for a holiday party. Price: $45.

Townsend Sakai X-mas Tree Cards

Over the holidays, a lot more effort is put into selecting gifts than into selecting cards. Generic, store-bought cards are the standard. Townsend Sakai has a line of whimsical, handmade holiday cards that will put any off-the-shelf card to shame. Each design is individually hand-embroidered on muslin and attached to a chocolate-brown cardstock and a plain sheet of white stock is sewn into the card, providing a neat space for personal greetings, as well. The X-mas Tree Card is perfect for Christmas, but there are many non-holiday options to choose from, as well. Price: $8 each.

Stainless Steel Playing Cards

They may not make the most practical deck, but they're certainly going to prevent cheating at your next poker game. These Stainless Steel Playing Cards come in a full-sheet and the individual cards can be punched out to make a standard-sized deck. They can also be left in the sheet and framed. The updated, but recognizably classic, characters and card designs are lightly etched into the steel and the back sides of the cards have a zebra pattern. Price: $351.
