RSVIP: Book Bash For "Dylan's Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life"

Charlie and his chocolate factory have nothing on new author, candy expert, and sweets purveyor par excellence Dylan Lauren (above, left).

Scarlet balloons hugged the ceiling of Dylan's Candy Bar, her sugary eponymous department store in Manhattan. Lilanne Becker, an adult dressed as a fairy princess with a satin gown, white gloves and tiara, stood beside a table stacked with books and brandished a colorful copy of Dylan Lauren's new coffee-table tome, "Dylan's Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life" (Clarkson Potter). Downstairs, Aundre Seals, a Halloween Dracula with some white face paint skewered Rice Krispie treats and marshmallows shaped like ghosts, drenched them in a triple-tier chocolate fountain, and handed them to salivating onlookers.

For adults, cocktails with lime rock-sugar swizzle sticks and gummy spider garnishes were spiked with VeeV, an açai-based spirit and tonic water. Red licorice decorated yet another cocktail made with raspberry liqueur.

In a basement brimming with vintage candy, including a bathtub filled with gumballs, a line of adoring fans snaked towards a cheery Dylan Lauren, wearing an acid green shirt with candy-tone Rep tie and signing books.

Sure I'm proud," said designer Ralph Lauren, Dylan's famous dad (above, right), wearing a blue-and-gold bomber jacket. "I'm so happy for her. She created something she loves and is happy to share it with many people who love candy!"

The 'Candelier' is a Chandelier of Candy

Gummi Bear Chandelier by Jellio
Chandeliers have the power to make or break a whole room, so finding one that fits in with your decor and personality is important. This 'Candelier' by Jellio is aiming to appeal to your personal tastes with not only its contemporary and colorful spherical design, but also the fact that if you look closely it's made up entirely of thousands upon thousands of tiny acrylic gummi bears. About 5000 of them handstrung to catch the light just right, each Candelier is slightly different and takes about 2 months to put together. Available in a limited edition of just 10 for $9,500 each.

Bourbon, Now Available In Bar Form

Sometimes Twitter can make me hungry, case in point, when news of this candy bar made the rounds this afternoon. The Bourbon Bar from BonBonBar uses George T. Stagg Bourbon infused in chocolate ganache along with chewy caramel, corn wafer, salt, black pepper and a coating of dark chocolate. BonBonBar specializes in using quality brands in their bars. The Scotch bar uses Talisker Distillers Edition Single Malt Scotch to create the chocolate ganache and the coffee bar gets its kick from Blue Bottle coffee beans. Oh yes, please. Boxes of 3 sell for $15 and until Sunday 10 percent of all sales will be donated to the American Red Cross for Haiti.

Mini Candy Cakes Are A Unique Wedding Favor

More and more wedding cakes are going the cupcake route with either nothing but cupcakes or a large cake and matching cupcakes for guests. The Little Candy Cake Company takes the matching idea one step further (or smaller) with solid chocolate mini wedding candy cakes. Forrmer MTV costume designer Lucinda Sierra is behind the candy cake favors. Each one is made out of solid milk or white chocolate with designs created especially for select events. Lucinda works directly with each client to create unique favors for the bride and groom or for any other special occasion. Prices start at $6 each for 1-25 two-inch, two-tier candies.

Patrick Roger Chocolates

These beautiful, marble-like chocolates are just a few of the decadent creations from European chocolatier Patrick Roger. Known in part for his exotic flavor combinations, the above box of Couleurs has two different blends: Amazone (caramel and acidulous lime from Brazil) and Savage (caramel scented with vervain and yuzu). He's also known for his creative packaging and chocolate presentations (i.e. 3 foot long boxes and lifesized dark chocolate black bears), but my favorite is definitely this Tiffany-like pretty blue box. It just brings up such luxe vibes with so little effort. See the gallery below for prices and more Patrick Roger goodies.

Fancy Candies and More from Dylan's Candy Bar

Filed under: Apparel, Dining, Celebrity Design

Annie Scott at Dylan's Candy BarWe headed over to Dylan's Candy Bar to check out what's new and what's hot for Valentine's Day and found a ton of amazing goodies - edible and otherwise!

There's more at Dylan's Candy Bar (the upscale candy store and lifestyle brand created by Dylan Lauren, a.k.a. Ralph Lauren's daughter) than just sweeties for your Valentine's Day sweetie. We found a great line of canvas bags, the most adorable little raincoat, scented reeds, jewelry, and a gym bag we very nearly stole (at right - that's me in my "going to the gym" pose. I don't know why it's like that.). We liked the bright yellow towel in there, too!

So have a look through our gallery and see which treats spark your fancies. There's a lot of see at Dylan's Candy Bar!

Marzipan Santa

As with so many of the treats we find at Dean & Deluca these are probably too precious to actually eat. The polar bear Santa and his three penguin helpers are hand-sculpted in marzipan by pastry artist Rebecca Russell. Of course they can be eaten but why not have them as a table centerpiece first at a holiday party so everyone can appreciate them. The set sells for $45.

Michel Cluizel Tasting Boxes

One great reason to visit the Michel Cluizel chocolate shop in New York City is the fact that it is a fine chocolate store with a liquor license. This means that not only do they serve hot chocolate and cold chocolate drinks and chocolate desserts but you can also get liquor-filled bonbons and pairings of wine and spirits with your chocolates. Their bonbons made with Calvados, Cognac, Cointreau, Grand-Mariner, Kirsch, Rum, Whiskey and Framboise sell for $85 per pound. The bonbons are available only through the store but you can order other items online such as the tasting boxes. The sampler box of 70 disks shown here spans the range of cocoa percentages from 33% milk chocolate to 99% dark chocolate so you can experiment with finding your perfect number. The box sells for $40.

Theobrama Cacao's Chocolate Shoes

The darling shoes shown here are the tamest selections from chocolatier Theobroma Cacao's new Erotique collection. The collection is made from Venezuelan chocolate (with a cocoa solid percentage of 70%) stuffed with treats such as strawberry or Champagne ganache and gilded with edible 22 carat gold highlights. There are eleven items in the Erotique Collection that include sculptural recreations of the human form and shoes. Each gift is beautifully presented in a brown and silver gift box and the chocolates are wrapped in lilac Christian Dior silk. The shoes shown above are £45 for a pair.

La Maison du Chocolat Tree

Other chocolate companies aim for a more traditional tree but at La Maison due Chocolat they are going Cubist. The tree is a sculpture composed completely of chocolate and decorated in a variety of round and square shapes that are artistic as well as delectable The design is meant to allude to the artwork of Robert and Sonia Delaunay. The base is filled with dark chocolate pralines infused with mandarin and a milk chocolate praline infused with winter spices. The tree sells for $138. Alas they can't ship something quite this precarious so unless you are lucky enough to be in New York, London or Paris this season you'll have to content yourself with the more equally delectable boxed chocolates.

Barney's Gumdrop Tree

If you don't want to deal with putting up a large Christmas tree, or if your kids live in apartments, dorms or other places that are short on space, the Gumdrop Tree at Barney's is a cute way to introduce the holiday spirit without introducing the need for cleaning up pine needles. It stands 16.5 inches high and is decked out with multi-colored spiced gumdrops, all sparkling with a sugary coating. It is inadvisable to try and string lights on this tree, but it does have the advantage of being edible, ensuring that the season will be a sweet one. Price: $88.

Be sure to take a look at the standard flavors that they offer, which include salted honey caramel, creme brulee, blood orange + grapefruit and Mayan spice, since if they already match your flavor preferences, you could save quite a bit by ordering the $18, 9-piece classic collection.

Delafee Gold Chocolates

You won't be handing these out at Halloween, Swiss company DeLafee makes pricey pralines covered in edible gold. The chocolate is made from a blend of criollo cocoa beans from Ecuador and Venezuela and Forestero cocoa beans from Ghana. The DeLafée pralinés are made of a shell of 56% cocoa filled with a creamy chocolate ganache and then sprinkled with 24K edible gold leaf. The Celebration package of eight chocolates sells for $98.40. The website even provides a bunch of cheesy sayings to accompany your chocolates if you wish such as "you are sweet as chocolate and precious as gold."
