Toronto's Most Expensive Home

A couple of readers have directed me to the fact that Toronto's most expensive home is in the pricey Bridle Path neighborhood. This home actually hit the market last year for $29.8 million Canadian so the current price of $26.8 million represents a bit of a price cut.

A recent report in the Toronto Star says that the owners are Margaret and Lee Ka Lau. The home has more than 40,000 square feet of space. The home is on a double Bridle Path lot, encompassing four acres, one lot is the main house and the second lot is give over to a massive sports complex that includes an indoor tennis court, bowling alley and an indoor pool. The two properties are connected by a tunnel that has an indoor putting green. The home was built around seven years ago and includes a cinema and an arboretum. Elise Kalles has the listing for $26.8 million Canadian.

Westmount, Estate of the Day

Today's home is a gracious three-story home in the Westmount area near Montreal, Canada. We are getting great reader tips lately. This one comes from Luxist reader Ben and is a beautiful modern home in West Vancouver, BC. The home is gated and located inside the Canterbury Estates community. It is up on a hill giving it flawless city, harbor and ocean views. Today's estate comes from a tipster who informs us that this stone manor in Toronto was the home of the late Steve Stavro, the former owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team. The 49-room home on Teddington Park Avenue has eight bedrooms and two kitchens. The property includes a swimming pool and formal gardens. inside, it's exactly what you might expect from a stone home that looks like an English manor. This beautiful Toronto mansion was built by  steel tycoon Sigmund Samuel in 1929. It is located in Forest Hill; like The Bridle Path it is one of the most wealthiest areas of Toronto. The Neo-Classic limestone home has seven bedrooms, a library, dining room, gourmet kitchen and a vaulted gallery entrance hall. Uplands, Canada, Estate of the Day

Today's estate takes us north to Canada to this large home which has a record asking price of $25 million Canadian (around $21.8 million U.S.).  The  2.4-acre Uplands waterfront estate  was once owned by Frank Hertel who founded International Electronics Corp. The company fell apart and Hertel eventually fled to Venezuela to avoid paying more than $1 million in taxes.  The home has 15,800 square foot of space that includes a variety of unique features including a conservatory that leads to an executive office with a heated slate floor and custom cherry built-in furniture. The home is wired for technology and has 19 television sets, smart lighting, video security and more controlled from a central media room. The Glass House in Toronto, Estate of the Day

Today's estate takes us to Toronto. This beautiful glass home is located in The Bridle Path, an upscale area that is home to showy blockbuster houses (and to disgraced mogul Conrad Black).  Many of the houses in the area are designed to look as if  they have been there for centuries.
