Mandeville Canyon, Estate of the Day

Back in February we first learned from the Los Angeles Times that music industry executive Phil Quartararo had listed his walled and gated Brentwood home for $13.25 million. Over half a year later and the home has had a major price cut, all the way down to $9.9 million.

This home has a lot to recommend it. The hacienda-style residence was built in 1936 and designed by John Byers. The home was expanded during Quartararo's ownership. The main house has a formal living room, dining room, library, den, offices, media rooms and six bedrooms. There are tiled floors and heavy beamed ceilings but perhaps a few too many murals and faux finishes for some tastes. The kitchen, fireplaces and some of the bathrooms feature beautiful tilework. There is also a pool and spa and a two bedroom guest house on the property.

Baio, who sold his Encino home in September for $2.5 million, is selling this seven-bedroom home, which belonged to his parents, along with his brother Steven, and sister Stephanie. This home was listed for $5.395 million back then but has since had a price cut.

The 11,000 square foot house has seven bedrooms, eight baths, a 26,000 square foot gated lot, guest house, and a pool in the back yard. Pacific Heights, Estate of the Day

Should he not be moving to Sacramento, it almost seems like Gavin Newsom, candidate for California's lieutenant governor position, should buy today's estate. It's a lovely mansion in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco and it was designed in 1904 by Samuel Newsom of the renowned firm Newsom & Newsom Architects. The four-level manor is done in a lavish Classic Revival style that sets a note of florid elegance with a rotunda portico entrance supported by decorative Roman columns. Inside, the home opens with a dramatic Imperial staircase framing a massive foyer which opens into grand-scale rooms with carved wood details, massive fireplaces and fresco-like borders. The nine-bedroom home is a mixed bag, some rooms are gorgeous and flawless (especially the library and sitting rooms) while others seem in need of a little attention. The kitchen might not appeal to the demands of today's buyers although its retro appeal is adorable.

San Francisco real estate blog SocketSite discussed this one back in August and revealed all sorts of fun details including the fact that the owners once kept white doves in a coop on the top floor balcony. The doves would be released to fly around the area. This home is listed at $14 million.

Donald Trump Lists California Home

donald trumpWhen Housing Watch broke the news that Donald Trump has listed his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, I knew we had to go check it out. Trump, who has a habit of creating drama where ever he goes, had years of "tumultuous relations" with the locals. Trump, a man accustomed to always getting his own way, ran up against the community rules over a variety of issues. He even sued the town for $100 million because they wouldn't let him have his own way.

The home he is selling is his personal residence where he stayed while in Los Angeles and is located at the 18-hole Trump National Golf Course and has both golf course and ocean views The 11,000-square-foot five-bedroom luxurious yet bland Mediterranean has marble floors is built in a U-shaped design around a courtyard with an infinity pool facing the ocean. The gourmet kitchen has Miele appliances, Wolf range, a Sub Zero refrigerator and a copper hood over the range. The master suite offers a walk-in closet, large bathroom, private patio and fire pit. The home has several fireplaces including one in the library. The game room has a full sized bar that matches the one at Trump National Golf Course. A glass wine room showcases your collection. It's posh but practically understated considered Trump's usual taste for gilded, over-the-top decor.

Housing Watch reports that Trump paid $27 million in the late 1990s for the 300-acre land site and constructed the golf course and adjacent properties. A pretty sharp deal. Homes on the course sell for over $5 million. Trump's personal home is listed for $12 million with Linda D'Ambrosi and Sandra Callen of Keller Williams, Rancho Palos Verdes. The property website is here.

Danny Bonaduce Re-Lists Los Feliz Home

Three years ago, we mentioned the home of Danny and Gretchen Bonaduce when it was listed for $4.5 million. The home, a Spanish-style mansion in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, was shown in their reality TV show, "Breaking Bonaduce," a rather startling look into their domestic life.

The couple went through a bit of a contentious divorce and the former Mrs. Bonaduce lived in the home while Danny Bonaduce headed to Philadelphia where he has a radio show. This home is a four-bedroom house built in 1926 by architect Harry Hayden Whiteley. The couple bought the home in 2005 for $2.6 million. The listing pictures aren't different than the ones we saw three years ago and show a delightful sweeping staircase and a giant rotunda, gorgeous archways and what looks to be vintage tile. Less inspiring is the rather ratty home theater with worn black leather seats and seedy red curtains. The home is now listed for $4.2 million with Lynne Beavers & Associates.

Anjelica Huston in Venice, Estate of the Day

A post from the Real Estalker reminded me that while we learned back in May that Anjelica Huston had listed her Venice, California home we never gave it full estate of the day treatment. That's a shame, it's a lovely home. The talented actress is the widow of sculptor Robert Graham and he built the home for them. Listing pictures show many of Graham's sculptures in the home.

The compound bears a little bit of a resemblance to Dennis Hopper's home, especially in the layout which combines includes both a three-bedroom home and the multi-level "Artist in Residence" building which has gallery space, office space and communal space. The home and studio share a courtyard and there is also a pool and Jacuzzi.

The home has an open living/dining room, a basement game room, multiple balconies and French doors. The listing states that it is a melding of French, Mediterranean and Bauhaus architectural styles. The property is listed at $18 million where it has sat since May. This one might need a bit of a price cut in order to sell.

Winona Ryder In Los Angeles, Estate of the Day

Winona Ryder is moving on. The Real Estalker broke the news today that Ryder has listed her longtime home in Los Angeles. Ryder bought the 1936 Spanish-style home in 1998 for $2.6 million. According to Movieland Directory this home was also previously owned by model Angie Everhart and Elton John's songwriting partner Bernie Taupin.

This classic Los Angeles home has four bedrooms. While the home has clearly been staged for sale, we can get a good look at the bones of this property. Many of the original details are in place. Like the Real Estalker, I rather enjoy the vintage charm of the pink and blue tiled master bathroom. The home opens into a wide entry hall with a curving tiled staircase that has stained glass windows and large dark murals that appear to feature the Garden of Eden.

The home has a long formal living room with French doors that open to the backyard area and a corner fireplace with a carved wood mantel. There is also a dining room, and small tucked away pub room with a built in wet bar. The kitchen has exposed antique brick walls, white cabinetry and wide doors opening out to the yard.

The home and garage surround a bricked-in courtyard with an outdoor fireplace and leading to a kidney-shaped pool. This home is listed with Westside Estate Agency for $4.095 million. The property website is here.

Tyler Christopher In Studio City, Estate of the Day

A few weeks ago we mentioned the Hollywood Hills home of soap opera star Maurice Bernard, now we've got the listing for his "General Hospital" castmate Tyler Christopher's home in Studio City. The LA Times reported that Christopher, who plays Nikolas Cassidine on the long-running show, has listed the home for $1.399 million with Rodeo Realty. The home appears to have been on the market for a while (Redfin says 192 days) and the listing carries the words "huge price reduction." A peek at the property records on Property Shark indicate that he bought the home in 2006 for $1.355 million.

The home is located on a quiet street and was built in 1960. It has hardwood floors, a gourmet kitchen, dining room, and a living room which opens out onto a backyard with a barbecue center, pool with spa and a five-hole putting green. The master suite has a bathroom with a stall shower and spa tub. The garage is currently outfitted as a gym.

Lenny Dykstra's Former Home Gets Another Deep Price Cut

While browsing through listings this afternoon, the words "price reduced" on a familiar home caught my eye. The Thousand Oaks, California estate that once belonged to hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, the same one he sold to Lenny Dykstra, has had yet another price cut. The lavish, Richard Landry-designed home has over 6.5 acres of space that includes three guest houses, formal gardens, tennis courts, pool, spa and gym. The neo-Georgian main house has six bedrooms. Dykstra bought the home from Gretzky in 2007 for $18.5 million and Dykstra put the home on the market for $24.5 million. When Dykstra's financial empire began to unravel, the home later had a price cut to $16.5 million and at one point we heard the home might be up for auction. It went off the market for a while but was listed at the start of 2010 for $14.9 million. That price wasn't tempting enough, it's now been pared to under $10 million; the latest listing shows a more buyer-friendly price of $9.999 million.
