Avalon Ranch, Estate of the Day

A little collaboration with Kevin Costner can be a good thing, it helped get producer Jim Wilson an Oscar (for "Dances With Wolves") and enough money for Avalon Ranch, a 190-acre ranch in Calabasas, California. Wilson's ranch is a gated equestrian center and farm. It includes a custom-built 7,500-square-foot modern farm house that has stone fireplaces, beamed ceilings, slate floors and built-in bookcases. Other details include a country kitchen, six bedrooms and large porches. The property also includes two guest homes, a 16-stall barn, clay tennis courts, pool, spa, duck pond, corrals, fruit trees and more. Proof that there is still plenty of wide open space in Southern California, it is listed for $25 million with Jim Pascucci of Rodeo Realty.

Dark Creek Road, Estate of the Day

Today's estate is located inside the tranquil Monte Nido community in increasingly celebrity friendly Calabasas, California. The home is on a five acre spread that features waterfalls and streams, a koi-pond; two guest houses and a private meditation room displaying a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains. The main residence is designed in a Tuscan style with walnut wood flooring and antique terracotta tile flooring created from the roof tops of 19th century French stables as well as a variety of exquisitely crafted hand-painted tiles.

Bret Saberhagen's Home On The Market

bret saberhagenAs long as I have baseball on the brain tonight with the playoffs going on I figured I'd show you the home of former major league pitcher Bret Saberhagen. Saberhagen, who played for the Kansas City Royals, the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox, owns a home in Calabasas, California which he recently put on the market. The rebuilt, renovated and remodeled gated compound is on 1.2 acres that includes two guesthouses, a putting green, horse show and bocce ball arena and a 5,600-square-foot main home. Details in the main house include a home theater with eight recliners and a 90-inch screen, a wine cellar that can seat 12 and a family room with a wet bar and multiple flat screen system for watching multiple sporting events. Outside in the cabana there is another flat-screen television so you are never too far away from the latest scores. The decor is a bit heavy on the sports bar look but you have to like a player who displays not just his own but lots of other jerseys on his walls. The LA Times Hot Property column reports that Saberhagen is looking to move a little closer to the ocean but plans to stay in California. This home is listed at $3.25 million.

Nicole Murphy in Calabasas, Estate of the Day

On the market, off the market, and back on again, We've been seeing Nicole Murphy, ex-wife of Eddie Murphy, try to sell her home in the Calabasas area of Southern California since 2007. It's hard to say why this one hasn't sold but the LA Times Hot Property column reports that she's trying again.

The home in The Oaks gated community has seven bedrooms and a Spanish hacienda style that includes high vaulted ceilings, crown molding, custom stone work, hand painted tiles, floor to ceiling windows, arched walk ways, distressed hardwoods, terra cotta flooring, and hand-forged iron light fixtures and railings. The open family room includes a wet bar and wine cellar and a home theater offers stadium seating. The master suite has a formal entry with travertine floors, a balcony, two walk in closets, his and hers vanities, a spa and a large walk-in shower. The grounds provide places to play with a pool and spa, a barbeque area with a refrigerator, ice maker, warming drawer and wet bar and a casita with a full kitchen and an indoor and an outdoor fireplace, fountains and walking paths with mountain vista views. It has been listed as high as $9.995 million in the past but is now listed at $8.495 million and may need more of a price cut to finally move into the sold column.

Chateau Provence, Estate of the Day

As the Real Estalker Mama who unearthed this listing said, this home should probably not have the name of Chateau Provence. The home, belonging to Prison Break actor Stacy Keach, does not remotely resemble anything French. Instead it is a five-bedroom home in a gated community in Calabasas. It's a bit of a bore on the outside but the interior is actually a little more interesting than your standard suburban deluxe home. It has light hardwood floors instead of the ubiquitous tile floors and the use of skylights and high ceilings insures that there is plenty of light.

The thing is, this home looks like is being lived in by renters. The home was supposedly remodeled this year but the decorations and the placement of the furnishings seem as if they were placed by someone who was just passing through. There was talk on the Real Estalker website on whether or not this was a flip or not but that rather cluttered office-like room with the keyboard in it is definitely not staged. It is listed at $2.295 million which is a lot for a home with no pool. After the jump, a giant rosary as wall art?

Prado del Grandioso, Estate of the Day

In The Estates, a gated community in Calabasas, California, massive new houses are going up quickly with little breathing room between them. This home on a street with the grand name of Prado del Grandioso is new and designed with as bland a palette as possible so that you can impose your own vision on it. The six-bedroom home has a huge foyer dripping with wrought iron details, a screening room, elevator and a large master suite. The grounds include a pool and a covered sitting area with a fireplace and the home has views down into the valley. It is listed at $10.8 million. After the jump, why is the chaise next to the bathtub?

Newlyweds House Sold

Wow, that was fast, The "Newlyweds" home of Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey went on the block recently and it has already been sold. ABC News reports that the home is being bought by "Malcolm in the Middle" teen actor Justin Berfield. We've seen plenty of real estate activity from Frankie Muniz, who is on the same TV show but this is the first time we've seen Berfield in the real estate game. The home was for sale for $3.75 million but it hasn't been revealed what Berfield paid for it. No doubt his investment will pay off in young ladies eager to hang out at Jessica Simpson's former home.
