Bugatti Shows the 16C Galibier in Black

If you've been waiting for your chance to see the Bugatti 16C Galibier up close, you may have to wait a little longer. So far the Alsatian auto marque has only showed the concept car to select groups. And if it does get the green light from its corporate superiors at Volkswagen, it will likely be another couple of years – after Veyron production has officially ceased – before the Galibier begins rolling out of the factory in Molsheim.

In the meantime, Bugatti has released a fresh crop of photography showing the Galibier for the first time in black, in place of the blue-and-silver two-tone scheme of the original. Looks sharp, but don't take our word for it: have a closer look in the gallery below.

The question of whether or not Volkswagen will decide to put the Bugatti 16C Galibier into production is still unanswered. While we've heard rumors that the German automaker was leaning towards the affirmative, a final decision has apparently not yet been made.

Still, Bugatti is making sure all of its ducks are in a row... just in case. Evidence of such can be seen in a trademark filing with the World Intellectual Property Organization that seeks to keep other automakers from stealing the car's design and shape. After all, it's happened before.

With Veyron production scheduled to come to an end after the 2012 model year, Bugatti only has a little bit of time to decide if it's moving forward on that supercar's successor, and if so, whether or not the front-engine, four-door Galibier is the direction it needs to go. We should know soon enough.

Bugatti Galibier Could Hit the Market by 2013 with Million-Euro Price Tag

The Bugatti 16C Galibier was supposed to be one of three concept cars which the most exclusive of automakers was set to unveil as a potential replacement for the legendary Veyron supercar, now nearing the end of its production run. But reports now suggest that the Alsatian marque is preparing to put the four-door super-saloon into production.

With a de-tuned version of the Veyron's quad-turbo W16 engine producing "only" 800 horsepower instead of its predecessor's 1000, the production version of the Galibier could borrow its chassis from the new Bentley Mulsanne and carry a seven-figure price tag to match the Veyron's if and when it hits the market, which sources peg around 2013. Better start saving now.
