I'm always drawn to bucket bags, which must be why I like this Chri-Chri Bucket by Dior. Simple and straightforward in black cannage quilted lambskin it has gunmetal silver hardware in the form of a chain strap that passes through a series of eyelets for a drawstring closure that secures at the front with a logo padlock. The top is mostly open but does get a little security help with a magnetic closure, and the interior is lined in more black leather and has both open and zipped pockets. Carry it via the single rolled leather top handle with designer-stamped leather tag. $2,400

Bare Reversible Bucket Tote, Handbag of the Day

It may look a bit plain from the outside, but that isn't necessarily a bad feature for a bag like Bare's Reversible Bucket Tote, which is intended to be as versatile as possible. The bag has very soft leather both inside and out, in a light beige on one side and white on the other. Both sides, each of which can easily be turned to face out, have a zippered pocket on them. The handles of the tote are inset and are reinforced for comfort. It measures 20" L x 22" H. Price: $825.

Fendi Small Bucket Bag, Handbag of the Day

You can tell when fall is approaching, from a fashion perspective, because the bags get a little darker and a little more earthy. There are more browns and blacks and fewer bold colors. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. Sometimes, a bag can get a little too earthy. This Fendi Small Bucket Bag, for example, is made of a lovely textured leather, with contrasting chocolate trim and bronze accent studs. The lining is fabric and it has a drawstring closure. It measures only 8" high (not counting the 5" drop from the strap) and 7" in diameter. The problem is that the muted, fawn color of the leather makes the bag look a little bit too much like a bucket - almost as though it's been drawn from a country well. Don't get me wrong: I still love the bag. I would just love to see it in all chocolate or maybe a cream color a little more. Price: $1,130.
