BRM Limited Edition Gulf Oil Watches

BRM Limited Edition Gulf Oil Watches
The most famous Gulf Oil watch was a Tag Heuer. Now French watch brand BRM has their own limited edition Gulf watch. Actually, there will be about three of them. While many people might not be so keen on the Gulf connection (it has to do with car racing), the back and orange motif of the pieces are great. I love how the inside of the portholes on the black leather strap are done in orange. What you see here is a Gulf edition of the BRM V12-44 watch. It is 44mm wide in a PVD black steel case with lots of little case details and articulating lugs. The Gulf logo is placed on the dial as well as on the crown. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA automatic chronograph movement. The entire Gulf Oil collection will be 100 pieces in total. The pictured model will retail for 6,400 euros.

BRM V7-38 and V6-44 Union Jack Watches

BRM V7-38 and V6-44 Union Jack Watches
A French watch brand making a British themed timepiece? Say you what?! It is true. Perhaps ancient rivalries don't last forever. High-end independent French watch maker BRM is about to release a new set of two watches with the Union Jack on the dial, and the design theme of the flag. The watch is really quite cool, and I think important for BRM. The neat race car and motor sports technology themed brand was shining for a while by failed to innovate over the last few years. While this watch isn't new technically - just a new design on it - it helps make the brand hip again.

The watch will come in two sizes and be under two different model names. Both pieces have steel cases, the 44mm wide version is going to the V6-44 Union Jack, and the 38mm wide version will be the V7-38 Union Jack. With the flag design being a stylish look in pop culture, the piece is due to be of interest outside of the UK as well. However, the piece is said to launch exclusively in the UK. Likely to be a limited edition, but I am not sure of how many pieces, or the price. Love that red, white, and blue leather strap.

BRM V12-T-44 Abarth Chronograph

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Luxury Cars & Autos

Any performance automaker worth its logo has got to have a wristwatch to match. And while a carmaker's choice of wristwatch – think Panerai and Ferrari, Breitling and Bentley, Parmigiani and Bugatti – is meant to reflect the company's image, in some cases (like this PVD titanium one) it's more a reflection of the brand's aspirations. Because Abarth has always been about punching above its weight and taking on vehicles twice its size and ten times its price. So it should stand to reason that, even though its performance hatchbacks sell for relatively modest sums, the Abarth chronograph goes for more than €4,900, or the equivalent of some $7,300.

The timepiece is crafted by none other than Bernard Richards Manufacturer, a watchmaking atelier already known in motor racing circles for their inspiration from automobiles. To top the racing-themed design of the stock V12-T-44 chronograph, BRM has further differentiated the Abarth special edition with such custom touches as chrome hands and red stitching on the Nomex wrist-strap. Only 49 examples will be made available exclusively from BRM's website, making this timepiece considerably more exclusive than the cars its made to accompany.

BRM Tourbillon TR1 Watch: A First For The French

This is the first ever (in modern times) French made tourbillon movement watch. With the surge of new French watch makers this does not surprise me. Nor does it surprise me that the movement comes from BRM, one of France's most impressive mechanical watch making masters. With obvious inspiration for the world of motor sports, BRM watches offer tasteful flashy designs, and a focus on mechanics. This is the new BRM TR1 and it is a grand new acheivement for the brand. It starts with a massive 52mm wide rose gold or titanium case (made to customer's specs), that houses the large birotor tourbillon movement set with shock absorbers.

The tourbillon cage itself is 18mm wide set in a titanium cage. As it is large, it take 105 seconds to rotate, but there is a separate hands for the seconds (most tourbillons rotate in 60 seconds). The two rotors seen through the skeletonized movement help wind the special mainspring that is also shielded from shock. The rotors themselves require no oil for lubrication as they are on ceramic bearings. The mechanical inventiveness of the TR1 does not end there - there are numerous unique elements - and it has a completely unique and forward thinking movement. Nothing else like it exists.

You are probably now aware that the BRM TR1 is for serious watch lovers and mechanical enthusiasts only. Bernard Richard of BRM wants to make sure his clientele appreciate all that went into the design and construction. At prices around 109,000 Euros, you'll most likely get an opportunity to have Mr. Richard explain it all to you personally if you get one. Availability starts this month.

The French-Cuff Grand Prix: BRM Brake-Disc Cuff Links

Filed under: Jewelry, Timepieces / Watches, Luxury Cars & Autos

Of all the watchmakers trying to bring the automotive theme to your wrist, few carry it off quite like BRM. The French watchmaking atelier crafts unique timekeeping movements with engine-building techniques prominently displayed in racing-themed cases with very car-like five-figure price tags. BRM is the king of automotive wristwatches, and it is looking to secure its place on the wrists of the rich and car-crazed with this latest set of cuff links.

Inspired by the cross-drilled brake discs on racing cars, these 18-karat rose gold and polished steel cuff links are available at luxury retailer Berdorf Goodman for $2,050, so unless you're planning on using a gold card to buy these gold accessories, the fastest thing they may be stopping is payment.
