Lauren Merkin Diana for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Handbag of the Day

Laura Merkin Diana in pink
Does this charming little handbag look familiar? We wrote about it last June when it first came out in beige and black (Lauren Merkin Diana Studded Lambskin Mini Bag). Well, it's back in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we couldn't be more delighted!

This beautiful, Swarovski crystal-studded purse -- a new version of Lauren Merkin's most popular clutch -- falls somewhere between rock-and-roll chic and Mad Men swellegant. The flirty gathered pink lambskin is neatly tucked into an envelope closure, which is easily grippable if you'd rather not use the chainlink strap. The bag is 10"W x 6"H x 1"D, just big enough for a night out or a day shopping, but definitely sized for play, not work.

Best of all, a full 50% of the proceeds from the Diana in Pink Studded Lambskin with Swarovski Crystals will be donated to Young Survival Coalition, an organization which supports women under the age of 40 who are diagnosed with breast cancer. You can get your pretty pink bag for $275.00 at LaurenMerkin.com through the end of October.

Beemster Cheese For Breast Cancer Research

October has fast become the pink month with more and more products taking on a rosy hue to benefit breast cancer. Beemster is the only official cheese sponsor and it will be going pink for the second year in a row by partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.

The limited edition Pink Ribbon Vlaskaas cheese will be available from September 15 through October 31, and for every pound sold, Beemster, will donate 50 cents to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. After donating $23,308 in 2009, the Gourmet Dutch company is pledging a minimum of $25,000 in 2010 and has set a goal of $40,000.

Beemster Vlaskaas is a gourmet Dutch cheese with a long history. Vlaskaas translates to flax cheese-- the sweet and creamy cheese was made only during the harvest festival of the flax for the workers to eat on thick slices of bread and with porridge while they worked and celebrated. In 2004 the harvest festival celebration was recreated as a community event. While digging through archives for information on the exact way to recreate the harvest festival, the recipe for Vlaskaas was discovered and Beemster was asked to make the Vlaskaas recipe. The cheese won a Gold Medal in its category and third place overall in the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Competition, one of the toughest cheese competitions in the world.

Captain Lord Mansion Offers Free Rooms To Breast Cancer Survivors

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Charity

Last year they helped honor mothers, this year, Kennebunkport, Maine's Captain Lord Mansion's co-owners Bev Davis and Rick Litchfield are helping celebrate breast cancer survivors. In support of breast cancer research, the Captain Lord is running a contest that will reward a breast cancer survivor with a free stay during the weekend of November 19-21.

The promotion is part of the bed & breakfast's Dime for Time program that donates a dime to the American Cancer Society for every guest who spends a night. Even better, it multiplies that dime by the number of times the guest has ever stayed there – so if a repeat customer has been there seven times before, the Captain Lord will donate 70 cents. The Dime for Time campaign was created in honor of the sister of Captain Lord Mansion co-owner, Bev Davis, who died of breast cancer.

To enter the giveaway, breast cancer survivors need to describe their stories on the Captain Lord Facebook page, and send an e-mail to innkeeper@captainlord.com before September 1. You can only write 100 words or less on Facebook, but your e-mailed entry isn't limited. Other fans of the page will help choose who should win the weekend, which will be part of the resort's celebration of breast cancer survival. Follow the link to find out more, and best of luck to all of you survivors.

LuxGoddess.com Hops on the Discount Shopping Site Bandwagon, Donates to Charity

Filed under: Apparel, Services, Cosmetics and Fragrance, Shoes, Charity

LuxGoddess.com Hops on the Discount Shopping Site Bandwagon, Donates to CharityDo only the very wealthy pay retail these days? Seems like it. With so many discount shopping sites that sell high-end items, mere mortals can get said high-end items at low(er)-end prices. But is is there room for yet one more of these sites? LuxGoddess.com is hoping so. It recently joined the likes of Bluefly, ShopBop, and Gilt to offer upscale items at reduced prices. Here's what makes LuxGoddess different, however: It donates 10% of its proceeds to Bright Pink, a national nonprofit that provides education and support to young women who are at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer.

Calling itself "the premier site for today's fashion trendsetters looking for great deals on their favorite designer brands," the site carries well-known brands, with a number of items pulled from online stores, and covers the standard categories of apparel, shoes, beauty, and accessories. There's also a sale rack, which is a user's personal sale rack, based on her size and brand preferences.

David Yurman's popular Women's Tag CollectionBreast Cancer Awareness Month is upon us, and David Yurman is celebrating (and supporting) by releasing these lavish pink dog tags for his Women's Tag Collection.

These tags not only show your support for breast cancer victims and research, but they also have a great "I'm a survivor" vibe to them -- the dog tag theme is perfect. Never have pave diamonds looked so courageous.

Naturally, 10 percent of retail sales from these items goes directly to fund
the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, so it's the perfect way to show your (actual) support, or to reward a survivor. Click here to purchase from David Yurman.

Diamonds For A Cure

Shop NBC host, jewelry designer and breast cancer survivor Neda Behnam has created a new company called Diamonds for a Cure (DFAC) which will join the growing number of companies raising funds for cancer research. The first two offerings capitalize on the current trend for rough diamond jewelry. A 4ct. natural pink diamond flower ring set in rose gold sells for $2,499.99 but only $100 goes to cancer research. An 18k white gold rough diamond pendant with a polished diamond center stone on either a black or pink silk cord sells for $549.93 and $50 goes to breast cancer research. The idea is admirable but compared to other jewelry lines, the amount given for charity seems a bit low.
