Trophies, Rings, And More At Upcoming Sports Memorabilia Auction

world series trophyWhich is worth more, a 2007 Boston Red Sox World Series Trophy or a 2000 New York Yankees World Series Trophy? We'll get a chance to find out when the Grey Flannel Holiday Auction sells off both trophies along with a whole plate of sports memorabilia on December 8. The auction includes plenty of championship jewelry such as J.R. Redmond's diamond-covered 2001 New England Patriots Super Bowl XXXVI player's ring and a 1984 Boston Celtics Championship ring that belonged to Red Auerbach's personal attorney, Bob Richards, and a 2009 Yankees World Championship ring.

The auction also features soccer memorabilia with a jersey worn by the great Brazilian striker Pelé during his tenure with the New York Cosmos and a jersey from German superstar and two-time European Footballer of the Year Franz Beckenbauer.

"If there is a single sport where ground-floor opportunities still exist, it's horseracing," said Richard E. Russek, Grey Flannel Auctions' president. "A thoroughbred horse runs in only so many races, and there are only so many blankets or halters per race. The blanket worn by a prize-winning horse is much rarer than a modern-era baseball jersey." This auction includes a collection of blankets, halters and other items from a long-held collection such as the blanket Big Brown wore when he won the 2008 (134th) Kentucky Derby. The white fleece blanket is adorned with a bouquet of red roses, the words "Kentucky Derby 134," the official Kentucky Derby symbol, and an embroidered patch with the race date and the image of a jockey on his horse. It opens with a $2,500 minimum bid.

Adrian Beltre in Bradbury, Estate of the Day

Professional baseball player Adrian Beltre moved on from the Los Angeles Dodgers way back in 2004 but he still has a home in the area. The Los Angeles Times reports that the Red Sox third baseman and his wife Sandra have listed their lavish home in Bradbury, California. Bradbury is in the San Gabriel Valley area outside of Los Angeles. The home is on 4.16 acres in the exclusive Bradbury Estates development.

The custom Mediterranean-style home has a dramatic entrance with a 35' custom painted ceiling, inlaid marble floors, a crystal chandelier, and dual staircase. The property also has a three-bedroom guest house and a pool cabana with a full kitchen. Seattle Mariner jerseys hanging in the downstairs bar area testify to Beltre's time with that team. There is also a lavish home theater with cozy leather seats and a couch in the back. The home is large and full of every possible amenity except bright colors, beige and dark wood predominate, making the home a bit of a luxury bore. The rec room has a batting cage and other sporting opportunities include a tennis court, golf holes complete with putting greens and sand traps, tennis and basketball courts and an infinity pool. This property is listed at $19.8 million with Sotheby's Realty.

Hotel Commonwealth's $755/night Red Sox Suite

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Boston's Hotel Commonwealth has created a Red Sox suite for those Fenway Fans – or Fenway taunters – more comfortable with the yellow seats down by the field. For $755 overnight you can lock yourself in a suite well stocked with Red Sox relics: Ruth, Agglanis and Conigliaro baseball cards, photos of Jackie Robinson and Ted Williams, and balls autographed by Johnny Pesky, Carlton Fisk and Jim Rice.

At the end of memory lane, suite guests can pass the hours around game time at either of the two plasmas – one in the living room, one in the bedroom – and watch the 2004 and 2007 runs to the World Series trophy and Ken Burns' "Baseball" series. The hotel fitness center is where they can work off the gift basket with Baby Ruth candy bars and baseball cookies, and it's probably best for everyone involved that the Commonwealth omitted the beer guy and his plastic cups. If you're nice, you might be able to get the 24-hour room service attendant to throw you a Haagen-Dazs ice cream bar...

How do you sell your Boston Red Sox-branded product to Red Sox fans? Dr. Dre knows. The rapper showed up at Fenway Park to promote the Red Sox Beats by Dr. Dre headphones from Monster. The officially licensed Red Sox Beats are the latest version of Dr. Dre's well-received headphones. Dr. Dre donned a Red Sox jersey and took a little batting practice in the historic baseball park.

The Red Sox are the first officially licensed professional sports team to have a set of Beats. Why does a baseball team needs branded headphones? I'm not sure but the Red Sox fans are some of the most devoted you'll find anywhere so there is likely a market for these. The Red Sox Beats come with a carrying case, cables and an adapter and sell for $400.
