Winners of Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Chosen

Bombay Sapphire Gin and Russell and Danny Simmons' Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation teamed up to create the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series, a nationwide search to discover new talents in urban photography and multi-media art. During a series of regional gallery events, twenty artists from these two categories were shortlisted and invited to Miami for a grand finale event during Art Basel. A jury panel which included Rush Philanthropic co-founders Russell and Danny Simmons, the program's national curator Andre Guichard, photographer Eric Henderson and Marc Ecko chose Washington, DC photographer Stan Squirewell and Miami artist Jorge Cavalier as the first ever winners of the series. Both artists will have their work installed at the Rush Arts Gallery in Manhattan from Jan. 13 to 27, 2011. Squirewell's acrylic on pigment print is titled The Carbon Anomaly and Cavalier's three piece sculpture comes from a series titled Labyrinths. The two winners were chosen from nearly two thousand artists who submitted work for consideration.

Click above to see Duncan Quinn's 10 Essential Luxuries

Dashing designer Duncan Quinn has always loved finely tailored English suits and grew up wearing some of the pieces his father had had made on Savile Row in the 1960's. Following several years practicing law both in the City in London and in Manhattan buying and selling companies he became obsessed with bringing to New York his own vision of a Savile Row tailoring establishment for gentlemen and rogues alike. The first Duncan Quinn store opened in NoLIta in 2003 and was an immediate hit. GQ praised his "Savile Row meets Rock 'n Roll" sensibility and things grew exponentially from there. In 2006 he was honored with the Fashion Group International Rising Star award for Menswear and opened a second establishment in Hollywood, followed by another in Dallas in 2008 and most recently a limited edition pop-up shop in Miami.

Past and present DQ devotees include alt rockers Green Day, LeBron James, Sean Combs, Christian Louboutin, Adrian Grenier and other notables and celebrities. Quinn continues to be driven by a delight in making unique collections of pieces with a viewpoint that are made to the highest standards possible with the finest materials known to man. His clothes are constructed to "celebrate days of glory and nights of excess." In addition he just completed filming and shooting for Bombay Sapphire's global advertising campaign for 2010 and will feature in advertisements running in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Quinn's love for the finer things in life and beautiful machines in particular - motorcycles, cars and sailboats - is well documented. In the gallery, he reveals his 10 essential luxuries and explains what makes them a must.

The Red, White and Sapphire Cocktail

Bombay Sapphire, the distinctive London dry gin infused with 10 botanicals hand-selected from around the globe, has come up with a festive twist on the classic Collins cocktail in honor of Independence Day, called the Red White and Sapphire (right).

Bombay Sapphire, distilled from 100% grain neutral spirit using a recipe that actually predates the Declaration of Independence by 15 years, includes lemon peel from Spain, orris root from Italy, coriander seeds from Mexico and cassia bark from Indo-China, among others.

To make a Red White and Sapphire:

1 1⁄2 oz. Bombay Sapphire
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
3⁄4 oz. simple syrup
3-4 fresh raspberries
3 oz. club soda

Muddle raspberries with simple syrup and lemon juice in a Collins glass. Add ice, Bombay Sapphire and stir. Top with club soda. Garnish with lemon twist and a fresh raspberry. Repeat as necessary.

Bombay Sapphire's "Revelation"

Described as a "collaboration between the drinks, crystal, art and design worlds," Bombay Sapphire Revelation is a collection of 5 absolutely gorgeous bottles. Bombay Sapphire is the drink (of course), Baccarat is the crystal, Garrard is the art/jeweller, and Karim Rashid is the bottle designer. The Revelation line consists of 5 bottles shaped like enormous jewels, all the same with the exception of their caps -- each uniquely decorated with diamonds and sapphires.

The entire collection is worth $1 million, but each bottle (priced at $200,000) will be displayed separately at one of 5 airports around the world (New York, London, Dubai, Sydney, and Singapore) starting around the end of March with proceeds to benefit The Smile Train charity. And along with the beautiful Revelation bottle the new owners will also receive a years supply of Bombay Sapphire gin.

The Billionaire's Cocktail

First off, it's not a cocktail that costs a billion dollars (although I'm sure there's one out there, somewhere...) but instead a cocktail designed for a billionaire. That would be an intimidating job I think, to create a drink especially for a specific, very rich, person. Calvin Ayre, billionaire founder of Bodog.com is that person, and The Liquid Muse is the creator of his signature drink, Billion-Ayre's Bet.

Based on his choice spirit Bombay Sapphire, the drink also includes grapefruit juice, Campari, lime, and champagne. See the complete recipe here, and think: what would your signature cocktail be?

Bombay Sapphire Martini Glass Winner

You've probably seen those Bombay Sapphire Gin advertisements that feature unique martini glasses. Check out the winner of their  Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass Competition, Global Final 2006 which was announced as part of Milan Design Week. UK-based designers, Tomek Rygalik and Jorre van Ast created this glass called  'Inverted' and won themselves a $15,000 prize. In order to drink from the glass you pick it up by the long stem. Interesting but one too many martinis and I'd be certain to poke myself in the eye with this thing.
