Body Exhibit Causes Controversy In France

The Body Worlds exhibits may be popular in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world but a similar exhibit has run into trouble in Paris. An exhibition on the human body called "Our Body" in Paris has been ordered to be shut down after a judge ruled that it is disrespectful of the dead. Two French human rights groups had filed a lawsuit with various complaints including the fact that the bodies were not displayed behind protective glass. There is also a concern about where the bodies were obtained. Organizers of similar exhibitions have been accused of using the cadavers of Chinese prisoners.

Judge Louis-Marie Raingeard has given Encore Productions, the exhibition's organizer, 24 hours to shut down the show which had been open since February and was scheduled to run through May 10. He also threatened a €20,000 fine for each additional day that the exhibit stays open. The exhibit has already been shown in Lyon and Marseille and the Paris exhibition had sold 200,000 tickets by the start of April.

These products are a triple play -- almost 100% organic, luxurious, and free of animal testing/ingredients tested on animals. Using the tagline "Beautify Not Toxify," Luxe Essentials is a simple line with just three categories: body butter ($10 - $30), bath salts ($37), and bath and body oils ($20). Oh wait, two gift baskets are offered -- lavender and lemongrass ($55). I love lavender, just in case you're thinking of sending me one of these. Hey, I'm just saying, if you need an idea. Anyway ...

Usiku Organic Bath & Body Collection

We're not there yet but the holidays are just around the corner, and along with them all the stress of thinking up gift ideas for everybody and finding time to shop. Some bath and body products probably belong on your shopping list regardless, whether as a gift for someone or just a way to help yourself relax amidst the annual holiday stresses, and I'm thinking the Usiku Organic Bath Collection sounds particularly good since they work for men or women and I love all things organic (not to mention the fragrance description sounds heavenly).

The collection from Jo Wood includes body soap, body lotion, body oil, and bath oil, and prices range from $24-$125 each.

Mariah's $1 Billion Assets

Mariah Carey has recently been chosen as the spokeswoman for Gillette's newest campaign, Legs of a Goddess. It wasn't mentioned how much Gillette is paying the singer for her role with them, but it must be quite a lot, as Carey has just taken out a $1 billion insurance policy on her legs. She isn't the first celebrity to insure a body part, but she is setting a new high standard with the amount of the policy. Other celebs who are putting a price on their legs include Heidi Klum ($1.2 million right leg, $1 million left), Betty Grable ($1 million), Jamie Lee Curtis ($1 million) and Fred Astaire ($75,000).
