Christie's to Auction Dylan Poem (by Hank Snow)

Christie's is ready to auction a handwritten poem by singer Bob Dylan. An interesting find, the piece is said to have come from the hand of the teenager who later became the legend. There's only one problem: Dylan's hand, Snow's words.

The "poem" is based heavily on the song "Little Buddy" by Canadian country singer (didn't know there was such a thing) Hank Snow, who died in 1999 at the age of 85. The similarities eluded experts at Christie's. At one point in his career, Snow was known as the "Yodeling Ranger." A Reuters reader gets credit for the discovery, which the news organization then passed along to the auction house.

Dylan wrote transcribed this piece while away at Jewish camp when he was 16 years old. He submitted it to the camp newspaper for publication, and the editor held the handwritten piece for more than half a century before donating it to Herzl Camp in Wisconsin.

This piece is nonetheless believed to be the oldest Dylan manuscript and will be offered at the June 23, 2009 Pop Culture auction. An estimate of $10,000 to $15,000 has been offered.

Big surprise: Dylan's management office wasn't available for comment.

$25,000 Bob Dylan Harmonicas

Filed under: Art, Holiday Guides, Men's Style

Bob Dylan Hand-Signed Harmonicas$25,000 may sound like a hefty price for a couple of harmonicas, but not when those harmonicas have been touched by Bob Dylan himself!

In a way, this is your chance to sort-of-almost kiss Bob Dylan. In case you wanted to do that.

Hohner is the manufacturer of these luxury harmonicas. They've been making musical instruments for 151 years, so these harmonicas are definitely not just for show; they are top of the line "blues harps." Hohner claims to have had a "special relationship" with Dylan over the years.

$25,000 will get you a set of five harmonicas hand-signed by Bob Dylan, or you can purchase an individual one (still comes in a nice box) for $5,000. These are, naturally, limited edition, and may sell out before the holiday.

The Hohner Bob Dylan Marine Band Harmonicas are available only from Sam Ash.

Bob Dylan, Celebrity Artist

Bob Dylan has had a book of his drawings and sketches published but he has never had an art show. That's set to change with a three-month show called The Drawn Blank Series to be held at the Chemnitz Art Collections museum in Berlin. The show will start on October 28 and run through February 3, 2008. It will feature more than 200 paintings based on the sketches in the Drawn Blank book by Dylan. In the book's preface, Dylan said that the works were intended as sketches for paintings. Now the paintings, which are photo-lithographs transferred to deckle-edged paper and reworked by the artist in watercolor and gouache and will be displayed for the first time in Chemnitz.

Dylan is in some good company with fellow celebrity artists. As we mentioned recently, Sir Anthony Hopkins also had an art exhibit.

Bob Dylan Purchases Scottish Retreat

Bob Dylan in the Scottish Highlands? According to the BBC, Dylan and his brother have bought an Edwardian mansion in the Cairngorms National Park. Aultmore House near Nethybridge, Inverness-shire was a rental that slept 25 and rented for £3,000 a night. Dylan's got some ties to Scotland, he has an honorary degree from St Andrews and has written a song called "Highlands." After the jump check out some pictures of Dylan's new home from the rental listing. Hopefully Dylan won't adopt a Scottish brogue or he will become even more incomprehensible.

Michael Jackson, struggling to pay off the approximately $300 million that he owes to the New York hedge fund, Fortress Investment Group, has announced that he has reached a deal with the group. Though the exact details were not released, a part of the deal has Jackson selling half of his shares in the Sony/ATV music library - 25% of the total collection - to Sony. After the sale, Sony will own 75% of the library. Jackson's portion, which he purchased in 1985, is currently valued at half a billion dollars and includes the rights to 251 Beatles songs as well as music by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks.
