Pioneer AVIC-D3: In-Dash Everything

Despite rampant reports of careless drivers placing complete trust in their in-dash navigation systems (like wrapping their shiny new ride around a tree or driving uninhibitedly into a construction zone), the market for GPS directions is expected to grow over 163% next year. Pioneer's AVIC-D3 will pack a whole host of entertainment features to its 6" touchscreen, but the real kicker is the unit's complete iPod support and Bluetooth capabilities; even if you're streaming video from your iPod and following directions at the same time, the unit will put everything on hold to tell you that you have a call from your mother reminding you to pick up a gallon of milk on your way home for Thanksgiving dinner.

The AVIC-D3 will be available in March 2007 with a retail price to be determined at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show.

Projector Keyboard

More and more people are relying on portable media devices for everyday instead of desktop PCs, meaning that they have to rely on the tiny keyboards that are part of the interface of their PDA or cellphone. A standard computer keyboard would not be a practical accessory, no matter how much faster correspondence would become, but the Projector Keyboard can solve that problem. The keyboard is about the size of a small cellphone itself and projects a standard keyboard onto any flat surface, from the table at the coffee shop to a sidewalk at the park. It connects to your phone/PDA/laptop via Bluetooth and "watches" your fingers, transmitting the data back to the device you have it connected to. The red outline is visible even in bright lighting conditions and a charge allows for two hours of typing time. Price: £119 ($221).

Exmocare Watch System

This watch isn't about good looks or cool styling but for those with elderly family members sometimes peace of mind is the greatest luxury. The Exmocare is a Bluetooth-enabled biosensor watch that lets you monitor vital signs from cell phones or over the internet. The watch can be linked up to cell phones and GPS car kits . The wristwatch monitor pulse, heart rate variability and level of activity. It can also allow basic assessment of emotional states. The watch has Windows, Windows Mobile and/or Pocket PC compatible software and can send alerts to families and care providers by SMS, email or instant messenger. The watch has a subscription plan that comes with a Bluetooth cell phone for transmitting data. The three-year plan comes with a phone and a GPS car kit for elderly driver. The fine print says it is not waterproof and if you move out of the area of the receiver or there is a failure of internet/cell phone service then the watch won't function too well. The watch only sells with a subscription and the lowest rate is $999.
