$30,000 Customized KGS Bikes

With the environment to think about, and our wallets also due to ever-growing transportation costs, investing in a well-made custom bicycle is sounding a lot more appealing to many people than it did just a few years ago. Now whether you can justify forking over as much for a bike as you would for a car is another story, but for some having a customized two-wheeled ride is worth it. KGS Bikes has a special fitting process that makes their bikes customized to fit each individual buyer, and meet their unique needs. The prices range from $8,000 - $32,000, with the highest price point buying you a "one-off work of rolling art."

Ducati Motorcyles - In Person

Ducati Streetfighter
Those images they publish of motorcycles are so shiny and perfect. Here's a look at the way the bikes really appear in person (shiny and perfect).

These photos were taken at the Ducati New Year event on January 15, 2009. The event included a fashion show, boxing, and the unveiling of the new Ducati Streetfighter (pictured here on the loading dock before the show)!

For a closer look at the Streetfighter and a whole bunch of other great Ducati bikes, have a pass through this gallery:

Strida Bicycles

With gas prices hitting high levels even the wealthier consumer is experiencing the joys of pedal power. There are a variety of innovative bicycle designs on the market, perhaps none as distinctive as Strida. Strida is folding bicycle that weighs around 20 pounds and transforms in five seconds. It is made from lightweight, rustproof aluminum and a Kevlar belt replaces the traditional metal chain. The horizontally-mounted handlebars and a soft yet sturdy seat provide a more comfortable upright riding position with a clear view of the road and a secure center of gravity from which to steer. The model shown above sells for $800.

MV Agusta Limited Edition Hydrogen and Wally Bikes

It's always interesting when companies collaborate, and it's no different in the case of Italian motorcycle maker MV Agusta joining forces with both the clothing manufacturer Hydrogen and the luxury boat company Wally. The resulting limited edition bikes are spin-offs of MV Agusta's Brutale 910 and are appropriately called the Hydrogen Brutale 910 R and the Wally Brutale 910 R. Each of the bike designs are unique while still maintaining the lines and beauty that make the Brutale the bike that it is. Only 100 of each model will be produced.

Seven Cycles IMX: a Titan in Titanium

I am grateful to the aerospace industry for so many things: Airbus, NASA, SkyMall magazine ...

But I am especially grateful to the aerospace industry for its use of titanium, the space-age metal that used in airplane construction. Simultaneously unbreakable, indefatigable, corrosion-proof and ultralight, titanium is also totally dope.

Equally dope is Seven Cycles of Watertown, Massachusetts, which has been making bicycle frames from titanium since 1997.

With summer around the bend, I've got a jones for the IMX, Seven's flagship  titanium/carbon mountain bike. The frame alone is $3,395. Steep, yes. But think of it like the two-wheeled equivalent of a tailor-made suit.

That $3,395 includes custom sizing, yes, but it also includes dialed-in custom handling and ride characteristics (do you want Cadillac comfortable? Formula-1fast?). Decal choice is also part of the deal, as is making sure the frame is compatible with the exact components you choose.

In other words, the aerospace-quality bike frame you get is an honest-to-god one-of-a-kind.

Can you say that for a Boeing 747? I didn't think so.
