Roland Iten For Bugatti Belt Buckle

Filed under: Gadgets, Luxury Cars & Autos, Modern Gentleman

Roland Iten For Bugatti Belt Buckle
Watch brand Parmigiani makes Bugatti labeled watches and now inventor and "world's most complex" belt buckle maker Roland Iten, has teamed up with Bugatti for a special belt buckle - and it is almost as complex as the Veyron.

The belt buckle is hard to explain if you haven't had experience with Roland Iten. I have a little video and some hands-on information with a similar Roland Iten belt here. Basically the buckles are designed to preserve the life of the belt, to offer smooth operation, and micro-flexibility in size and adjustment. The Bugatti edition belt buckle is based on the Roland Iten Mk.I-22mm. It offers precise micro-adjustments for the perfect fit and does so in the neatest of manners. This belt will fit your exact waist - and adjust to when that size changes....

Parabellum Accessories, Made from Bison and Kevlar

parabellum accessories
Proudly handcrafted in Los Angeles, and utilizing the most authentic and sophisticated materials available, Parabellum has just launched its inaugural line of belts and premium accessories for men. By combining military grade ceramics, free-range 15 year old American Bison, DuPont Kevlar and supple lambskin, Parabellum aims for "the perfect union between luxury and utilitarianism." Honoring classic American craftsmanship and style, the Parabellum line is also totally modern. After tanning, each bison hide is meticulously selected and hand-cut for each individual item. Just as no two hides are the same, no two Parabellum products are exactly alike. All leather is hand-skived, all corners are hand-turned, and each and every item is individually numbered for identification and authenticity.

Parabellum believes its Reservation Bison is the "richest, softest, most complicated and most beautiful" leather in the world. It is tanned in small batches, using old world techniques by true American artisans. Natural-tone, vegetable tanned lambskin linings are used to compliment the rugged beauty of the bison. All of their leather goods are also internally lined with Kevlar for strength and durability, and each and every Parabellum product includes laser-etched, military grade ceramic hardware for a level of true technological sophistication. Designs are military inspired as well. The full range of Parabellum belts, wallets and pouches will be initially available next month at Maxfield in Los Angeles. Key pieces include the Peace Maker belt, Instrument Case for PDAs and Comms Pouch cell phone case.

John Varvatos to New Launch Leather Goods Line

Stylish designer John Varvatos is launching a full collection of leather goods for his John Varvatos USA label's Fall / Winter 2010 season. Geared to a younger sensibility than his eponymous collection, USA espouses a preppy-meets-rocker style based on an "imperfectly perfect" appeal. The new collection includes belts, bags, small leather goods and accessories, all featuring meticulous attention to detail and highly innovative finishes. The bags are hand-stitched in Italian leather, with raw-cut edges and chunky hardware giving an edge to their refinement. Wallets are made from soft hides but clip onto tough biker chains. Zippers, studs and hanging medallions featuring the peace sign adorn the bracelets and belts, which are hand-stained with feathered edges. Our favorite are these handsome canvas and leather satchels; other bags feature skull, guitar and marijuana leaf motifs. Price points for the collection range from $65-$550, with bags starting at $150; small leather goods starting at $68; and belts starting at $65.

The Invisibelt

The Invisibelt is a great invention. It's a clear plastic belt that has a flat clasp, so there's no bulky belt buckle bulging beneath untucked tops. The belt is great for when you want a sleek look but need a belt. Works just as well with jeans as with your most expensive pants.

I heard about Invisibelt more than a year ago, and had a hard time finding a place to buy it other than the Invisibelt website, which at the time had ridiculously high shipping (but then, eBay to the rescue).

Now that Invisibelt has been around a while, it's trying to glam up its collection, offering the belt in black ($19.95, same price as clear) as well as in a few pretty patterns -- the Glamour Collection ($22.00). The Invisibelt also is available for girls in fun colors and patterns ($16.00). The adult-size belts are available in one regular size and one plus size, meaning, since the belt adjusts like a bra, one size will fit most.

I think in a way it's kind of counter to being "invisible" when you are inventing belts made to be shown, but an entrepreneur and businesswoman I am not, so don't ask me. I will heartily endorse the belt, however. It really is practically invisible under tops, and because it's plastic, it warms with your body temperature and becomes soft and pliable, moving with you and becoming very comfortable, i.e., I don't even feel it.

Men's Exotic Skin Items, From Luxury Accessories Intl.

New York City-based Luxury Accessories International (LAI) began as a leather importer in New York in 1953, importing crocodile skins from South America and selling them to makers of shoes, handbags, and other leather goods. In 1971 the company expanded the range of skins to include python from Indonesia, ostrich from South Africa, and lizard from South America. Today, the company makes a variety of high-end products for men and women, but I'm going to focus on the men. Where to begin? Belts, bags, a flask, a watch box, portfolios, wallets ... all custom dyed all over the world and made with skins selected by hand for cutting at the LAI manufacturing house in Long Island City, N.Y. Orders are individually cut and sewn, and often customized, but the LAI boutique at 35 E. 65th St., NYC, offers custom pieces.

You know something's expensive when every piece on the Web site is followed by: "To purchase, please contact the LAI Boutique: 212-794-3874." So I can't help you with pricing, but if you see something you like, give LAI a ring. See the gallery for a few of the beautiful pieces.

Mardaga Belt Buckles

Generally there's only so much inventiveness that goes into a belt buckle and what makes a belt special is the detail on the buckle. The L'A Mardaga belt buckle has that but Albert Mardaga has reinvented the belt buckle using a mechanism similar to the opening of a shotgun action. The belt buckle breaks open just like the hinge of a double-barrel shotgun does at the place where you load the bullets and a lever moves left or right to unlock the hinge. The belt buckle has the same basic style. And how's this for a cool feature, instead of having to unbuckle your belt after taking in a heavy meal, a quick press on the button in the doll's-head extension on the end of the barrels allows the belt to lengthen.

The first Mardaga belts sold at auction at Bonham's London in 2004 for prices ranging from £1,912 to £2,400. One of the first belts sold to the Royal Armouries Museum. Each belt is custom made. There is a choice of six leathers; elephant, alligator, ostrich, crocodile, lizard and buffalo; seven engraving styles and six styles of the oak and leather box.

Prada 'Animalier' Dragon Belt

My personal taste in belts leans towards simple and classic, but some prefer edgy conversation starters and have a thing for dragons. This 'Animalier' dragon belt by Prada is just the thing if you're one of the latter, depicting a dragon and snake battling it out in goldtone on black croc printed leather. It's made in Italy and the belt is 1 1/2" wide with a hooked pin closure, and the buckle itself measures 3 3/4" by 2 1/4". $436

Way too gaudy for me, but then I've seen people pull off stranger accessories with the right outfit and attitude -- more power to 'em!

Vintage Belt Floor Mat

At first glance it looks like weathered multi-colored wood flooring, and at second glance maybe some kind of throw rug, but then by the third glance hopefully you've got it figured out: it's a floor mat made of vintage belts! I'm not usually one for leather accessories, but I'm all for recycling and reusing and this is pretty cool. Designed by Inqhua Ting, the Vintage Belt Floor Mat brings old leather belts new life by mounting them together on a backing of reconstituted leather and glue. Handmade, each mat is unique and will have it's own earthy warm feeling. 27.5" across, $648.

Bad Sand Belt

Swarovski doesn't explain what their Bad Sand Belt did to deserve its name, but it certainly isn't "bad" based on its looks. The belt is made of calfskin leather, with details that are rhodium-plated and covered with pavé crystals. The two-buckle accessory is 2 3/8 inches wide and is designed to be worn high up on the waist. It measures 29 1/8 - 31 1/2-inches and has three holes for size adjustment. Price: $ 297.

Beth Frank Vintage Belt F

Belts are one of those accessories that, at least for me, never seems to be at the forefront of my mind when getting dressed. One usually thinks of jewelry and a matching handbag for your outfit, but a belt you could always do without. For the belt advocates out there and those trying to incorporate them more into your wardrobe, the Beth Frank Vintage Belt is a great start. It is funky and casual, yet it can easily add a touch of chic to the typical everyday outfit. The tooled design and bejeweled, enameled flowers add some femininity to this rustic, vintage belt. Available in size 28". Price: $518.

Cartier Santos 100 Belt

The big-buckled status belts, which proudly display their brand affiliation in large letters in what can appear to be an almost cowboy-esque style, are fine with jeans and other casual wear, but less obvious belts are staples of a complete wardrobe. This Santos 100 Calfskin Belt by Cartier is very soft and reverses from brown to black. The buckle is finished with palladium and, while not nearly as impressive as the large logo belts are at first glance, this one will still be getting admiring looks long after that trend has come and gone. Price: $390.

Prada Logo Belts

At one point, belts were a necessary, but understated, part of a man's wardrobe. This season, it looks like designers are trying to call more attention to them by adding logo buckles that could almost rival champion rodeo buckles. Dsquared2 seems to have the most visually arresting "status belts," but Prada's Logo Belts ($295)are a bit more refined, with large oval buckles that feature a tastefully engraved rendition of the designer's logo. A better choice, for those who want to stay with the trend in a more subtle way, is Prada's Plaque Buckle Belt ($260), which has a rectangular silver buckle with a small black logo.

Ibisco Corset Belt

Corset belts are very popular with fall fashion lines, though the trend seemed to hit over the summer, as some celeb trendsetters set the style bar a little higher than the potato-sack dresses and leggings that so many of the young movie stars seemed to be going around in. The belts, worn at the waist and not at the hip, are intended to create and accentuate curves, creating a very pleasing silhouette with a high-waisted pencil skirt. The Ibisco Corset Belt eliminates the headache of having to lace anything up because the 5" wide belt has a concealed zip closure in the front panel. Price: $215.
