Patrick Dempsey's Home Back On The Market At A Reduced Price

patrick dempseyActor and race car driver Patrick Dempsey had his Bel Air, California home on the market earlier this year for $3.595 million. Later it was cut to $3.295 million and went into escrow. Meanwhile Dempsey and his family bought a new home in Brentwood. But something must have happened on the way to the closing because his old home is back on the market with a new lower price. The Real Estalker dishes that he paid $3.1 million for the home in 2006 so he will likely be losing money on this home. The charming New England style home has been exquisitely done in a contemporary style with deep shades of paint on the walls contrasting with cream trim and wood floors. It has a large living room, formal dining room, a chef's kitchen with white subway tiles that opens to family room and four bedrooms. The backyard includes a pool and a treehouse. The new listing is here.

This week Dempsey is in France, he is racing a Ferrari 430 GT in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Nicolas Cage Pulls Bel Air Home Off The Market

Today while working on a piece on the biggest real estate price drops, I discovered that one of the biggest, Nicolas Cage's Bel Air home, has been pulled off the market. Cage bought the vintage Tudor from singer Tom Jones in 1998 f for $6.469 million. He has been trying to sell the home off and on since 2006 when it was listed at $35 million and it has been on and off the market. This time the seven-bedroom home went as low as $17.5 million before Cage pulled the listing. The star is likely waiting until the real estate market peps up a bit to put his treasure back up for sale.

La Belle Vie, Estate of the Day

When a woman can afford to lose a few million on a home she's never lived in then you know she's got some money to throw around. While arts philanthropist Iris Cantor is willing to reduce the price her four-bedroom penthouse in New York several million below what she paid for it (she paid $15 million in 2006, it is now listed at $11.9 million) so far her home in Bel Air, California hasn't had a price drop. Give it time, it's only been on the market a couple of months. At $53 million, it enjoys some pretty rarefied air at the top of the Los Angeles real estate market.

The home on St. Cloud Road bears the name La Belle Vie
, and showcases a spectacularly lavish lifestyle. The home is approximately 35,000 square feet with nine bedrooms and 21 bathrooms. As the Real Estalker reported back in February, Iris Cantor and her husband, the late Bernie Cantor of Cantor Fitzgerald bought the land and built this house in the early 1990s. It's more house than any one couple could ever need and has three kitchens, 12 wood burning fireplaces and underground parking for up to 10 luxury automobiles. The decor is unbearably fancy aspiring to a Marie Antoinette level of fripperty and flounce, flawless in every detail but lacking even the vaguest nod to livability. Crystal chandeliers, marble floors and huge draperies give this home the look of a very elegant hotel. The home features fine sculpture and rooms include a family room, den, office, media room, billiard room and a beauty parlor. Will she get her price? She had the home on the market way back in 200 for $45 million but after two years there was no sale. It seems like she couldn't have picked a worse time to try again.

More Nic Cage Price Cuts

Nicolas Cage is at it again chopping the prices on some of his many homes for sale. Dakota over at Curbed LA reports that Cage has cut another $2.25 million off his gorgeous Bel-Air home. The Tudor which Cage bought from singer Tom Jones for $6.469 million back in 1998 was once listed as high as $35 million three years ago.

Cage has also shaved a modest $250,000 off one of his homes in New Orleans taking it down to the $3.45 million he paid for it in 2007.

A Hollywood Lawyer in Bel Air, Estate of the Day

Today's estate is the secluded retreat of Hollywood lawyer Peter Nelson. The LA Times Hot Property column reports that the dealmaker bought the home in 1997 for $2.1 million and spent more than $1 million in improvements. The traditional home sits on nearly 1.75 acres with ocean and city views. The four-bedroom home has a relaxed style that the listing likens to a Hamptons vacation home. Key features include a large family room, brick-accented country kitchen and a formal dining room. This home is listed at $5.995 million.

Mariah Carey Buys $7 Million Mansion

It looks like Mariah Carey was only dreaming when she reportedly made an offer on Fleur de Lys, the $125 million Beverly Hills mansion once ranked as the world's most expensive estate (that title is now held by the $150 million Spelling mansion). According to the Real Estalker, the pop star just purchased this somewhat more modest mansion in Bel Air (above) that once belonged to Farrah Fawcett for about $7 million. The private gated estate on 3 acres designed in the Hamptons style and originally built in 1950 is about 10,000-sq.-ft. with 6 bedrooms and 7 baths.

The property features incredible 360-degree views and the renovated house has an "Aspen-style" great room, seven fireplaces, formal living and dining rooms, a library, media room, office, an eat in gourmet kitchen. The grounds boast three gated entrances, two motor courts, a huge rectangular swimming pool with a poolside pavilion, a large brick terrace, several lush lawns areas, a gazebo, and an Indoor racquetball court. The closing price is about $2.5 million less than the sellers were originally asking.

Mohamed Hadid in Bel Air, Estate of the Day

le belvedere
At a time when even the Russians seem to be losing their fortunes is there really room on the Los Angeles real estate market? Well, we better make room because as the LA Times Hot Property column reported Ritz-Carlton developer Mohamed Hadid has listed his Bel-Air residence for a blistering $85 million. It's not the most expensive house in Los Angeles or the most expensive property in his listing agent's portfolio (both those honors go to Fleur de Lys in Holmby Hills still on the market at $125 million).

What do you get for your money? The home is on 2.2 acres of prime land that includes staff quarters over the garage, a garage big enough for two limos, a swan pond, rose gardens, an infinity pool, large spa, outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, fireplaces and courtyard dining for 100 guests. The home itself has ten bedrooms and 48,000 square feet of space. Public rooms include a reception hall, formal living and dining rooms, an informal dining room, a family room with a bar lounge, a music room, a library, 5,000 bottle wine cellar and tasting room, a ballroom, commercial kitchen, screening room, game room and a Moroccan room. The main master bedroom suite including a sitting room, powder room, his and hers bathrooms and dressing rooms. Like many other fancy mansions, this one has its own name, Le Belvedere.

Nicolas Cage in Bel Air, Estate of the Day

Like Dakota over at Curbed LA, I've got a weakness for the home Nicolas Cage is trying to sell in Bel Air, California. This vintage Tudor is classic old Hollywood and was once home to both Dean Martin and Tom Jones. Cage purchased the home in 1998 from Jones for $6.469 million and has been trying to sell the home off and on since 2006 when it was listed at $35 million. The seven-bedroom home is on an acre of land and has over 11,000 square feet of space. It's ridiculously, deliciously grand with a large theater, game room, wine cellar and rooms of truly epic scale. It is now listed at $19.75 million.

This isn't Cage's only price cut. The Las Vegas home he put on the market last summer has had a more modest price chop down to $9.49 million. It was listed at $9.95 million when it was our estate of the day. His Rhode Island home, which we covered back in October, remains at $15.9 million.

Chalon Road, Estate of the Day

Today's home is classic Bel Air. This ritzy area of Los Angeles is home to monster homes on their own private hills offering views of the city below. The last time we were in Bel Air, it was to check out a $40 million home. Today's place will cost you a bit less money but is in the same echelon. This fabulous home has been renovated to luxury hotel standards and offers six bedrooms including an expansive master suite and a separate kids wing. This home is suited for a titan of industry with its two-story library, plush home theater and large dining and living rooms for entertaining. The property includes a pool and spa, tennis and gym facilities and a not-a-blade-out-of-place lush green yard. This home is listed for $24.995 million and was recently offered for rent for the astronomical price of $100,000 per month (which is actually less than the estimated mortgage payment would be).

Most Expensive Zip Codes: 90077, Estate of the Day

For the next couple of weeks we will be checking out some homes in the most expensive zip codes in the United States, up today, 90077 . This zip code encompasses the Bel Air area of Los Angeles, CA, some of the most rarified real estate around. This area is home to a wide variety of celebrities and wealthy movers and shakers who enjoy the neighborhood's security and privacy. This zip code has a median price of $3,119,000 with a ridiculously high appreciation rate of 442% since 1990.

The real estate here is truly astronomical. The top house in the MLS is listed at $85 million. Also in this zip code is the Richard Neutra-designed home that Vidal Sassoon has on the market for $19 million. Today's estate sits smack in the middle at $40 million. You only get 3.2 acres here but the home is huge,36 bedrooms in all. Very high ceilings, elaborate moldings, marble everywhere and an overall sense of formal grandness prevails. The land includes terraces with city views, sunken tennis court and a sybaritic pool area. The home has four different master suites and two kitchens.

Singleton Residence, Estate of the Day

A few weeks ago I mentioned the coverage the Real Estalker and Radar paid to this home, a Richard Neutra-designed estate in Bel Air currently owned by hair icon Vidal Sassoon. Sassoon bought the house in 2004 and gave the home a renovation that a house with this type of architectural provenance deserves.

This type of home with its spare and blocky lines may not be to all tastes. You've got to love the Modernist style to embrace Neutra. This home is one of just two Neutra homes in Bel Air (my neighborhood, Silver Lake is home to many more). This home was built in 1959 and has over five acres in Bel Air. Additions include a new master bedroom wing, an expanded kitchen and a gallery that blends the approach to the earlier Neutra addition into the overall floorplan. The home has four bedrooms, a screening room and there are two extra building pads on the site. Radar put the house at $19. million but the Sotheby's listing has it at $25 million. Amazing considering that Sassoon is said to have purchased for $6 million. After the jump, perfect minimalism and a bed with a tail.

Ursa Major Estate, Estate of the Day

Every time I see a listing that claims the home has Frank Lloyd Wright influences I sigh. Very few homes deserve the Lloyd Wright inspired moniker. This one is different, the use of wood as well as the filtering of light do give it a Frank Lloyd Wright feel. The four-bedroom home is located in a celeb-packed neighborhood in ultra-elite Bel-Air, California and sits on 2.5 acres. Details include 40-foot ceilings, walls of glass which reveal skyline views, solar heating, a steam shower, wraparound pool and other top-of-the-line amenities. But the real lure is the stunningly beautiful design which is iconic rather than dated even though the house was built in the early 1970s. According to Forbes, the home is owned by George Meyer and Maria Semple, the husband/wife writing team behind The Simpsons, and was built in 1971 by Wilt Chamberlain. It is listed at $11.5 million. According to legend, Wilt named the home Ursa Major after his own nickname of the Big Dipper. After the jump, the sexiest place to stargaze.

Meet the Barkers House For Sale

Another reality television house has hit the market. This time it's the home of Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and his wife Shanna who starred in "Meet the Barkers." The home is located in the wealthy Bel Air Crest area.  It has eight bedrooms, garages for  ten cars and over 12,000 square feet of living space total. If you've ever seen the show (especially when the couple first moved in) you know that this new home is so spacious that it echoes. The Tuscan'styled home is not particularly distinctive but it is large. It is listed for $9.5 million.  More visuals of the rock star life after the jump.
