Crown Ambassador Reserve Lager in New Marketing Campaign

Crown Ambassador Reserve was first launched three years ago but this year marks the first time Foster's Group will actively push key restaurants to offer it, which is a marketing strategy to bring more prestige and allure to the brand and drive interest in the mainstream Crown label. Crown Ambassador Reserve is twice as strong as traditional Crown and although normally priced at $90 frequently trades on eBay for $200-$300, and even sold for $800 at auction once.

Foster's will also be marketing the premium brew on social networking sites and has commissioned renowned glassmaker Reidel to design a glass that best brings out the beer's flavor. In August, the Crown Ambassador Reserve will be released to the market, in a limited edition of fewer than 8000 bottles.

Luxist readers nominated their favorite brew pubs around the country as part of the Luxist Awards for best in entertainment. One brew pub is located in Vemont and the only way to sample its beer is to go there yourself. The second brew pub has won countless awards while the third one features hand-crafted beer. The fourth brew pub brews its award-winning beer on the premises while many consider the beers made by the final brew pub among the best in the world.

The Alchemist Pub and Brewery

Waterbury, Vt.

About halfway between Manchester, N.H. and Montreal, Quebec sits the sleepy town of Waterbury, Vt., home to The Alchemist Pub and Brewery. The geographical details may seem trivial, but the only way to get a beer at this Luxist-nominated brew pub is to go there yourself – all ales flow from The Alchemist's own basement brewery. The only beer that's "to-go," they like to say, is the beer in your belly.

Perhaps things would have been different if the The Alchemist had been founded a few decades earlier – the brewpub is located Waterbury's original post office, which would have made for quite the convenient distribution network. Instead, the building was renovated and reopened as a brewpub in 2003 by proprietors Jennifer and John Kimmich. The pair has been brewing handcrafted beer onsite ever since, using only the best imported malts and domestic hops.

Every Friday, new casks of beer are debuted, but four stalwarts are always available on tap alongside the newbies. There's Donovan's Red, a medium-bodied and malty ale named after Waterbury's 19^th Century Irish restaurant. Light beer drinkers will appreciate the appropriately-named Lightweight, a crisp pilsner that took third place at the 2006 World Beer Cup. Lost Coast Brewery: Great Beer on the Lost Coast of California

Lost Coast Brewery & Cafe is nominated for a Luxist Award for Best Brew Pub

On California's northern coastline, the mountains along the Pacific are so rugged and steep that Route 1 veers back inland in order to avoid the treachery. Along this stretch, known as the Lost Coast, the towns have names like Shelter Cove and Petrolia. Route 1 finally finds the ocean once again in Eureka – home of the Luxist-nominated Lost Coast Brewery.

The brew pub offers weary travelers a delicious break from the winding roads that likely conveyed them to Eureka. Proprietors Barbara Groom, a former pharmacist, and Wendy Pound, a former family counselor, gained their expertise by sampling pubs in the British Isles in the 1980s. They returned to the U.S. and purchased the Pythian Castle, a century-old edifice in Eureka, from the Fraternal Order of the Knights of Pythias and started Lost Coast Brewery in 1990.

Lost Coast's offerings include Alleycat Amber, a caramel-flavored ale with a dash of medium-bodied malts and hops; Downtown Brown, a nutty ale with a hint of hops and roasted malts; Great White, a citrusy beer with unmalted wheat, barley and a "secret blend" of herbs. For those more interested in solid nourishment, there's a wide selection of seafood, burgers, vegetarian fare and other victuals in Lost Coast's café.

Boosted by a banner year in 2005 that saw 24,000 barrels of beer produced, Lost Coast moved into an even larger building down the road. It's currently the 46^th-largest brewery in the U.S., and distributes beer in 19 different states

Silver City Brewery: Brewing its Own Award-Winning Beer on the Premises

Silver City Brewery in Silverdale, Wa. is nominated as best brew pub by Luxist.

Though Silverdale, Wa. is about 20 miles from downtown Seattle as the crow flies, the body of water that lies between the two towns makes the trip a bit more complicated than one might expect. The journey from Seattle takes you down around the southern boundary of Puget Sound – 70 miles by car – but it's worth the time if you're headed to Silver City Brewery, a Luxist nominee in the best brew pub category.

The Silver City story starts long before the brewpub's 1996 debut. Steve and Scott Houmes first went into business together in 1990, opening a restaurant called Top Notch Burger. Six years later, feeling squeezed by the big burger chains, they decided to regroup and try a new approach by entering the brew pub business. They remodeled their Silverdale location into its modern form, and the rest, as they say, was history.

Silver City brews its beers on premises. Some favorites include Clear Creek Pale Ale, a blend of three lightly roasted British malts and hints of caramel; Panther Lake Porter, a dark, chocolatey ale; and Fat Scotch Ale, a malty and whiskey-esque brew that clocks with a hefty 9.2% alcohol content. Silver City sells beer by the glass at its bar and restaurant, but for those who want to take home a larger quantity, the microbrewery sells kegs as well.

The food at Silver City's restaurant makes for a great accompaniment to the delicious brews. The menu includes a variety of salads, appetizers, main courses and desserts – and of course, the Houmes' specialty: a good, old-fashioned cheeseburger.

Spuyten Duyvil: World's Finest Beer in Brookyln

Spuyten Duyvil is nominated for best brew pub award by Luxist

Plan a night out at the Spuyten Duyvil in Brooklyn, NY and you might miss the very attraction for which you came. The brew pub, whose storefront is encased in red wrought-iron bars and includes scant mention of its own title, is among the best in the Big Apple, if not the world. All of this makes it an obvious choice for a Luxist nomination in the best brew pub category.

Located in the shadow of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and between the Lorimer and Bedford Avenue stops of New York's L subway line, Spuyten Duyvil is just the sort of unassuming hotspot that would be a favorite in Brooklyn's Williamsburg district. Just a few feet from an ultra-hip concert venue called The Knitting Factory, it's a place you've probably been invited for an after-party if you went to college in the Northeast over the past decade and had a friend in a band.

Stride through the front door, past hipsters with more flannel than a Seattle lumberjack convention, and you'll be transported to an old-style Belgian kitchen with a Brooklyn twist. Mismatched chairs dot the bar's seating areas, while a host of maps depicting historical Canada and Chicago dot the walls. Enjoy one of Spuyten Duyvil's dozens of obscure beers, and don't be disheartened if Lagunitas is the only one with which you're familiar.

On a pleasant spring or summer afternoon, head outside to the back porch to enjoy your drink (just be prepared for the cigarette smoke emanating from the European tourists camped out there). Most of all, don't be afraid to ask the laid-back bartenders for beer selection advice – you won't be the first person bewildered by their expansive selection.

Four Peaks Brewery is nominated as best brew pub

For over a decade, Four Peaks Brewing Company in Tempe, Ari., has been among the best destinations for beer in the Southwest. In the wake of countless awards at the likes of the World Beer Cup and the Great American Beer Festival, it's no surprise that the brew pub responsible for the victorious liquids is a Luxist nominee in the best brew pub category.

Four Peaks' building started out as something quite different from its current incarnation. Back in 1892, the warehouse was first constructed to store milk for Pacific Creamery and Bordens Creamery. Today, the red brick walls and high wooden ceilings surround a different kind of libation: the delicious ales of Four Peaks Brewing Company.

In addition to seasonal varieties, the brewpub boasts a handful of mainstays. There's Kilt Lifter, an award-winning Scottish-style ale, amber in color and smoky in taste. For Anglophiles, there's 8^th Street Ale, an English-style bitter beer made from rare Kentish hops. Those looking for something a little sweeter will enjoy Arizona Peach, a subtle and fruity beer. Hops-lovers will enjoy Hop Knot I.P.A., named for the weaving of four different types of hops at four different times during the brewing process.

Solid nourishment can also be had at Four Peaks – the accompanying restaurant offers a full menu of lunch and dinner items. And if a trip to Tempe is too long a trek, try the brewpub's second location, Four Peaks Grill and Tap in Scottsdale.

Roosevelt Hotel Opens Vander Bar

Banking of the success of its popular Mad46 rooftop bar (set to reopen for the season this week), Manhattan's grand Roosevelt Hotel has recently unveiled Vander Bar. Taking its name from the Lilliputian avenue that runs parallel to Grand Central Terminal-along the Roosevelt's backside-Vander Bar makes a serious play for the mid-town clientele who frequent both of these New York City institutions. Whereas Mad46 is meant to compete with stylish downtown al fresco drinking options like those found at the Hudson or Thompson hotels, Vander Bar aims more for the local happy hour crowd, where Hermès ties become loosened before the Metro-North train ride back to Westchester. Offering a fully stocked bar, along with beers on-tap, the property's small-plates menu of contemporary favorites, such as burger sliders, lobster rolls, and mac and cheese, should provide ample ways to spoil dinner. Of course these days a bar is only as good as its signature drinks, and Vander Bar gives a knowing wink to the neighborhood with a Belvedere black raspberry vodka and lime juice concoction, known as "The BlackBerry."

Deschutes Brewery Bond Street Series

Deschutes Brewery, located in Bend, Oregon along the banks of the wild and scenic Deschutes River, has brewed a family of handcrafted ales since 1988. Their Bond Street Series of seasonal specialty brews (above) is not only some of the world's best beer but is also among the best designed bottles available anywhere. The series is Inspired by the original Deschutes Brewery & Public House on Bond Street in downtown Bend. Their newest offering is the Hop Henge Experimental IPA, available now through April. The epitome of the brewery's experimental style, it boasts a "truly monstrous" hop profile. Deschutes uses a 50-barrel traditional gravity brew house and a one-of-a-kind 131-barrel Huppmann brew system from Germany to craft its exceptional beers. Bottoms up!

Schorschbock 40, The New World's Strongest Beer

Last November we learned that a beer named Tactical Nuclear Penguin might be the strongest beer in the world. The beer from Scottish brewery BrewDog had a 32 percent alcohol content. Now the title appears to have been taken by a Germany company who has come up with an even stronger brew.

Schorschbrau has created the Schorschbock 40, a whisky with a 40 percent alcohol by volume rate. The whisky-like brew has gone on sale in Scotland where it sells for £10 a glass. A review on RateBeer decribes the beer as being very strong and intense but with fruity beer notes.

The beer is sold in .33 liter ceramic bottles. Each one is signed and hand-numbered by the braumeister. Bottles are sealed with wax by hand and come in a wooden case with a transparent window on one side.Only around 40 bottles have been made.

Scottish Brewery Creates World's Strongest Beer

The name, Tactical Nuclear Penguin, might be a bit silly, but this is a beer to take seriously. BrewDog, a Scottish brewery says the Penguin is the world's strongest beer and has a 32 percent alcohol content. Like other strong beers such as some of the Sam Adams offerings, this is a beer to be enjoyed in small servings. It is a double cask matured uber-imperial stout. A limited supply of Tactical Nuclear Penguin sells for £30 a bottle or £250 per bottle which includes a share in BrewDog PLC (value £230).

Most Expensive Bottle of Beer Fetches Over $16,000 At Auction

A bottle of beer rescued from the crash of the Hindenburg recently sold at auction for over $16,000 according to This is Wiltshire in the UK. This is significantly above the estimate placed on the bottle of $4,000 - $8,000. The airship crashed on May 6, 1937 over Lakehurst, New Jersey where the bottle and other memorabilia was found by fire Chief Leroy Smith at the scene of the disaster.

Apparently the fire chief found a total of six scorched bottles and a pitcher at the scene. He buried his treasures and then came back afterward to dig them up and hand them out as souvenirs to his colleagues. No one knows where the other bottles are located except for one, which chief Smith gave to the Lowenbrau brewery in 1977, where it remains today. He kept one bottle and the pitcher, which bears the logo of the Deutsche Zeppelin Reedrei airline that operated the Hindenburg. Both pieces are scorched and were sold with letters of provenance and an account of how the items were acquired.

Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge of the British auction house Henry Aldridge and Sons has been quoted as saying "It is the most valuable bottle of beer ever sold." Even though one can still see the contents of the Lowenbrau bottle, the remnants of the beer would be undrinkable. The auction house specializes in relics of disaster and has been the largest auctioneer of memorabilia from the Titanic.

BrewDog Atlantic IPA, 1st Sea-Aged Beer in 200 Years

Maverick Scottish beer brand BrewDog, known for their outlandish-sounding ales, is releasing a limited edition Atlantic IPA (right), the first commercially available, genuine sea-aged India Pale Ale in over two centuries.

Only 960 bottles will be available in the U.S. at $25.99 per 330 ml, making it one of the most precious brews on the planet. The artfully-designed label declares it to be something extraordinary.

Made according to an 1856 recipe, the Atlantic IPA spent two months aging aboard BrewDog co-founder James Watt's fishing boat in the North Atlantic.

The incredible journey involved a "tense barrel-rescue-mission, beatings from force ten storms, 60 foot waves and encounters with killer whales." You can view the Atlantic IPA voyage online here.

The Atlantic IPA is bursting with malt character: "biscuit, toast, caramel, pirate ship oak, salt and tobacco," in addition to notes of honey, pine and vanilla.

The generous use of English hops adds a substantial kick to the forefront of the nose and mouth with a smooth slick spicy, earthy herbal quality and a lingering woody bitterness in the finish.
