Borghese Gets Into The Bedding Business

The Borghese cosmetics line is expanding in a new direction, with a line of bedding and accessories to be introduced under the Villa Di Borghese brand name. The Borghese tagline, "The Elements of Life" is the inspiration for the line. The bedding, created by United Feather & Down, will be packaged with samples of Borghese skin care products and is scheduled to launch nationwide through Bloomingdale's next month. The new line includes pillows, a comforter, spa body wrap and more in a 300-thread-count Italian Tile Dobby Cotton in either white or ivory and finished with a natural aloe vera treatment and embroidered with the Villa Di Borghese crest. Bloomingdale's has expanded their Borghese spa options and plans to use the Borghese textiles to pamper guests during treatments.

Pampered Pooch Bumper Bed

Here's a bumper bed for your special family member that you can feel good about, ecologically-speaking. Covered in organic cotton twill, free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers, it's filled with a comfy, cozy stuffing and is made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, which diverts more than 25 tons of plastic bottles from landfills every year. The bed features a center, removable pillow that can also be used separately inside crates or the car. It's a great option for allergic, sensitive, or orthopedic pets. Made in the U.S.A., machine washable. A portion of sale proceeds are donated. Sizes S - XL; $76.95 - $178.95.

Dylan Designer Contemporary Bed

You can spend all kinds of time and energy decorating your bedroom with accessories and accents to get a look that makes a statement, or you could just get a bed like this Dylan Designer Contemporary Bed. Its design leaves it looking like it's floating, supported only by the one side. It's constructed of metal with soft leather upholstery and is available in five colors and two sizes.

It's so simple it will blend well into many different styles of decor, although I think it will look best when not surrounded by a lot of clutter or detail. $5,456

Aitutaki Bamboo Bed

This Aitutaki Bamboo Bed is big, bold, and beautiful, but in a completely understated and natural way -- if that makes any sense. The sheer white curtains bring romance to the large bamboo pillars, which are available in 3 stain colors to match your decor. I love almost all 4 post canopy style beds but I think my favorite part about this one is the handmade and completely organic and natural appearance of the bamboo beams, with the end-grain and knuckles clearly visible. Plus it's great that it's made of sustainable materials. $4000

The Float Bed

Just float. Doesn't that sound awesome? Especially at the end of a long stressful day when you're getting ready for bed. The Float is a bed from Max Longin furniture design, and it's based on the concept of a "central point of rest to which everything leads in a pliable and soft way." It moves when you move, and no matter where you sleep it balances itself. It's very simple, organic, and peaceful looking, although choice of bedding is critical as it could easily lose its appeal if buried in blankets.

And to make things even better the bed ecologically dismantles and forms its own transportation case. $6,200-$7,600

Prices vary based on your particular choices, but the design pictured here, which is on silk dupioni, is $450 in a California King with matching shams.

Sahelia Bedding

We tend to look for Egyptian cotton for our bedding without really considering the connection to Africa. Sahelia is a new luxury linen line that incorporates elements of African design. Sahelia's founder, Fatim Thiam, was born and raised in West Africa, and educated in France, Canada, and the United States. Each of the nine collections is named after an African city and uses rich colors and designs. The sheets are made in Italy of Eyptian cotton. The sheets shown here are from the Ife collection and prices start at $234 for a Queen fitted sheet.

True Love Always Bedding

True Love Always has some really gorgeous bedding that is completely different from anything you'd find in an ordinary line of linens. Their designs are very unique, from bold and colorful splashes to artistic and risque drawings, including Love Honor Obey, Whippy and True Love World (pictured). The pillow cases and duvets are made of Egyptian cotton with the designs screen-printed on top. Organic cotton is available for an additional fee, but a complete set, with pillow cases and a duvet is £199 in black and white and £259 in color. The duvet covers come in double and king sizes.

Cotton Monkey Bedding

Cotton Monkey Bedding is a line of linens made from 100% certified organic cotton, grown without any pesticides or chemicals, and is finished with wool batting that is not treated with formaldehyde or bleach and is antimicrobial. Only non-toxic dyes are used. The result of all this is that the bedding is ultra-soft and as safe as can be for a baby's sensitive skin. They make sheets, quilts, crib bumpers and throw blankets, and you can mix and match the various patterns they offer. A full Cotton Monkey set, which will outfit a crib completely, is $704.

Spring Bedding from John Robshaw

The spring collection from John Robshaw, one of my favorite fabric designers is out, and if you're looking for lightweight pillows and bedding, you can't do better than his stuff. With an Indian-Asia-boho feel, his designs are simply lovely. His web site is pretty sparse, but does list retailers. Online sites like Nochalant Mom and ShopatGood also carry his line.
