The $600 Renée Rouleau Facial

Based in Texas Renée Rouleau is an aesthetician with a passion for skin care. At her salon she offers a variety of services including facials for everything from general cleansing to detox to anti-aging. Her top-of-the-line Synergy 7 facial is especially noteworthy, however, as it tops the price chart with a whopping $600 price tag.

The Synergy 7 facial gets its name from the 7 treatments that are combined into one to make for a truly luxurious and cutting edge two hour anti-aging experience that focuses on deep cleansing, resurfacing, Vitamin C infusion, lifting & firming, repairing & hydrating, oxygen infusion and calming & protecting. The end result? Renée Rouleau promises "your healthiest skin ever."

Chanel Joins the Gold Rush

On Friday, Women's Wear Daily released a sneak peek of Chanel fall 2008 beauty color collection and I have to wonder if the recent spike in gold prices were an inspiration to Peter Phillips, the new creative director of makeup. The collection will come out in July and will be followed in October by Philips' holiday collection. Phillips tells WWD that he choose gold because of the warm metallic colors used in Coco Chanel's apartment on Rue Cambon.

The collection includes Gold Fiction, the nail polish for $30; Facettes D'Or, a loose powder with a golden glow for $56; Gold Light Glossimer lip gloss, $26; Rouge Hydrabase lipstick shades in copper, plum and coral for $27 each, and a quad eye shadow palette with gold, coffee, ivory and dark green eye colors for $56. In a time of economic turmoil will women want to to wear gold on their fingers and toes? Chanel is hoping the new gold nail polish is the next Vamp or Black Satin but it seems an awfully opulent color for an uncertain time.

The Ultimate Doggie Beauty Treatment: The Dog O2 from AirPress

Oxygen chambers were made famous by Michael Jackson, but they've been used for years by all kinds of people who believe in their anti-aging properties. If you've been treating yourself to oxygen therapy treatments, either in a salon/spa setting or in your home overnight like Michael, why not do the same for your pet? Now you can with the Dog O2 from AirPress -- it's a doggie-sized oxygen therapy chamber.

What do you think? I think it looks like a torture chamber! Besides, my little Piper is beautiful enough already.

Gurhka Beauty Cigars

The latest cigar in the Gurhka Legend series is the Beauty, a medium-bodied cigar which is a mate to last year's full-bodied Gurkha Beast. The Beauty boasts a golden Ecuadorean-grown Connecticut Shade wrapper and has a Dominican binder and a Nicaraguan filler. The 6-1/2 x 58 cigar has a wrapper that is aged a full seven years and the binder and filler are five years old. The Beauty comes in a box of 25 with engraved brass plaques inside and out and each cigar is encased in a frosted glass tube with an orange cap. The cigars are double-banded and sheathed in cedar from the Beauty band to the foot. A box sells for a hefty. $770 and there will only be 500 boxes created each year.

Nephria Jade Bar

A company called Newbert Revolution claims to be selling the world's most expensive soap. They are a bit off, we've seen at least one pricier bar but Neprhira is still worthy of noting at least for curiosity's sake. It is created from nephrite (jade powder) along with apricot, olive and jojoba oils. The jade comes from a special seam in South Korea which is said to have healing properties which improve the skin's moisture and lipid balance and have a calming effect on skin problems such as inflammation and acne. The Nephria Jade Beauty Bar costs £17.99 (around $35).

No More False Eyelashes

A new surgical procedure might just be the next big thing to hit the Hollywood set in the name of youth and beauty: eyelash transplants. No longer will women look to false eyelashes to meet their expectations of beauty because they can have them permanently enhanced. The lashes are put on using the same "plug and sew" technique used in regular hair transplants for balding men and about 30-40 lashes are individually sewn onto the eyelid. Only a handful of surgeons use the technique, but some say that the enhancement should catch on quickly. "Eyelash transplantation does for the eyes what breast augmentation does for the figure," said one surgeon. Only local anesthetic and light sedation are necessary, and the whole surgery only costs about $3,000 per eye.

Give Beauty Luggage

Fred Segal Beauty has a new selection of beauty luggage, cases made specifically for sorting and carrying your makeup and makeup accessories. This Give Leather Train Case measures 5.5 x 7.5 x 9.25 and is made of supple Italian leather, in either yellow or brown. It is full of pockets to keep everything in its proper place. Dubbed the "Bentley of beauty luggage," the bag has an elegant, timeless look to it and is sure to provide many years of use. The case doesn't have to be used for travel, although we are now permitted to take some things on planes again, and can instead be used to keep your things organized in the bathroom. Price: $300.

Feathered Fantasy Eyelashes

With celebs playing up dark-rimmed eyes with heavy lashes, it's not surprising to see false eyelashes more prominently displayed. The limited edition Fantasy Eyelashes from shu uemura are decorated with real feathers to give the wearer a very unique look. One pair is chocolate brown, with white speckles, and the other option is for jewel-toned blue, black and green lashes that are reminiscent of a peacock's feathers. Price: $50 each pair.

Walgreens Beauty Goes Upscale

Walgreens is introducing a whole new concept to its stores, and all US drugstores, with its European Beauty Collection. The collection is a group of upscale beauty and cosmetic products from seven European companies that have not yet been introduced to the US market and will be available exclusively at Walgreens through at least 2007. The brands include:

  • Institut Arnaud Paris, a French face and body care line that is very popular in spas.
  • Skincode Switzerland, a range of herb, plant, vitamin, and other "natural" items, developed with The University Hospital in Zurich.
  • Spa Aquatique, a marine-based French spa collection
  • Red Water, a Greece line that includes native Greek herbs, oils and waters.
  • La Fleur Organic, an organic line from Provence, France.
  • Art Deco,  the number-one selling skin care/cosmetic brand in German department stores.

By introducing these masstige products (mass + prestige), Walgreens is hoping to target customers who don't ordinarily shop for cosmetics and beauty care products at their store, customers who ordinarily pass up the "mass" products, as well as appeal to buyers who are interested in using a more specialized or exotic product.

For the potential customer, especially one who is already interested in luxury or specialty brands, the most appealing part of the European collection (EBC) is that some of these products sell for more than $100 in Europe, while Walgreens will have them priced from $13-$60, with an average of $27.

The Walgreens EBC will debut in October.

Santa Maria Novella Body Milk

If you're anything like me, you're probably growing a bit weary of all of the da Vinci hype that has been going around: the movie, the book (now finally in paperback), the lawsuit.

All the more reason to mention another name from the Italian Renaissance to whom the Western World owes a great debt: the de' Medici family. Between the 13th and the 17th-centuries, the de' Medici clan was Florence's most famous set of movers and shakers. Their philanthropy brought into the world the Pitti Palace, the Uffizi Gallery and the Boboli Garden, as well as a slew of paintings and frescoes from the all-stars of Renaissance art: Masaccio, Donatello and Fra Angelico.

But what you might not know is that the de' Medicis were also vanguards in the field of cosmetics. The Santa Maria Novella Latte per Il Corpo (body milk, for any non-Italian speakers out there) is made according to the same exacting standards required by matriarch Catherine de' Medici some 700 years ago. This lightly moisturizing body milk instantly absorbs into your skin, leaving nothing but a delicate magnolia scent.

So even if you can't have the clout of Catherine de' Medici, at least you can do your best to smell like her. Price: $72.

Pretty In Pink: Summer Gloss Shades

When I was six years old, I had visions of , a world that was completely pink. Pink clothes, pink  shoes, pink cars, and pink hair, if it was made from red and white, I wanted it. Of course, at the time, I didn't realize that pink hair was primarily sported by the likes of Cyndi Lauper and dolls named Jem. I also didn't realize that pink cars were mostly owned by little old ladies who had sold high quantities of Mary Kay make-up .

But each year, when spring rolls around again, I  start getting an itch for that erstwhile time, when all that I hope for in life could have been classified acccording to shades of pink. Thus, I chock up the fact I covet this lip gloss -- from by Terry -- to my inner six-year old.  The sophisticated  gloss boasts with lip regenerating minerals and UV-band protections against aging efects of the sun.  The non-sticky gloss comes in four femme shades, which stick to your lips, but not to your hair (Dunno about you, but I hate it when lip glosses migrate to places other than my kisser.) As you might imagine, my favorite shade is the pink one  -- Innocent Rose -- shown in the photograph.  Price $40.

Estee Lauder Sun Goddess Compact

Estee Lauder is famous for their elegant powder compacts that often feature designs like astrological symbols or intricate flowers rendered in Swarovski crystals. Usually the compacts feature pressed powder but for summer they have this beautiful golden collectible compact that is filled with bronzer. The compact sells for $60.
