Limited Edition Beach Bag by JOIE and Shutters on the Beach

Just when you thought the long lazy bright days of summer couldn't be improved upon, along comes a limited edition beach bag by JOIE and the iconic Shutters on the Beach hotel in Santa Monica. Destined to become the must-have fashion accessory of the season since they are only selling 300 of them -- ladies, start your engines -- the bags retail for $175.

The simple white canvas tote bag with leather-wrapped handles has a lightweight wooden bottom and functional water-resistant pockets. It is designed and produced in Los Angeles and will be sold exclusively at the Shutters hotel boutique, online at Shutters on the Beach, and in the JOIE boutique in Paris.

Ah summer. The inspiration of poets, the muse for songs, the cause for romance. And now the perfect beach bag, even if it only comes in white.

The JOIE brand is sold globally in high-end department stores, specialty shops and in the line's Paris boutique in the Galeries Du Palais Royal, which opened last October. The casual-but-sophisticated line, inspired by the Southern California lifestyle, is sold in 10 licensed boutiques in Japan as well.

Shutters on the Beach, popular with celebrities who prefer discretion to paparazzi, continues to raise the bar when it comes to luxury hotels. Last week, it announced that guests staying in any of its premier suites would be given free use of an iPad for their stay. The beachfront hotel is independently owned and is known for its inspiring interiors by designer Michael S. Smith. The hotel is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, has two signature restaurants and a spa that provides the services of Ole Henriksen, Hollywood's go-to skin care spa guy.

Frette's Beach Line For Summer Fun

Luxury linens purveyor Frette has released their latest colorful line for a leisurely summer spent on the beach or poolside. The line includes colorful towels in soft, long-looped plush terry that have the lush print look of a scarf. There are also beach bags, coverups and even a pair of Frette flip-flops for $165. Monsac Nantucket Tote, Handbag of the Day

Monsac's 'Nantucket' tote is a twist on the old-fashioned Nantucket lightship basket bags made of woven cane or wood with a hinged lid. This bag is made of rattan and has a hinged top with a magnetic snap tab closure. It has crinkled patent leather handles and a leather front pocket that makes it look a bit like it has had some sort of accident with a hobo bag. The bag has enough room for your water bottle, a book and wallet, sunglasses and cell phone. It comes in white, blue or black with rattan. It sells for $278. I can't decide if I would like it more without the leather pocket on the front or not.

Le Dauphin Beach Umbrellas

We are still a few weeks away from beach season but if you are planning ahead check out Le Dauphin's amazing beach umbrellas. The frames are made in England of powder-coated aluminum with an anchoring device. Hermes Striped Beach Bag, Handbag of the Day

While many totes are excellent choices to take to the beach, there seems to be a lack of beach-specific totes from designers. Perhaps they don't want to pigeonhole a bag by branding it as beach-only, but in reality it is probably a selling point since there are so few. Hermes bucks the trend with their Striped Beach Bag. The blue and white striped pattern is very nautical in spirit. It is made of cotton toile and measures 13"x12"x28" - just right for a large towel, sandals, sunscreen and the other seaside necessities. The tote features a snap closure for securing your things and soft cotton handles, which make for easy carrying. Price: $530.

This Beach Tote by Ananas is the perfect bag for - what else - the beach. Unlike the vast majority of other beach-bound totes, this one is large enough to hold all your summer gear while still looking funky and fashionable. The straps of the tote, which measures 19" by 15," are extra-wide to make carrying it comfortable. The bag is handwoven from a natural fiber called abaca, has a satin-lining and comes in three colors, including saffron (pictured), fuchsia and grass.
