The Imperial, The Luxury Car That Never Was

Gas prices and the worldwide fuel situation are now officially responsible for the decision Chrysler just made to put the kabosh on plans for the new Imperial. The Imperial concept was first introduced last year at the Detroit Auto Show, and if built the Imperial would have fallen into the Chrysler line up at the very top -- above the 300C. But there will now be no Imperial, with Chrysler mentioning that the increasing costs for fuel and the ever tightening fuel economy standards would make production of the Imperial "irresponsible" at this time.

The Most Anticipated Luxury Cars of 2008

The term "luxury car" can apply to autos priced from fairly economical $20,000 options all the way up to the indulgent $400,000 range and higher. It's a large class of vehicles. And although everyone may not agree (with that many cars in the mix there's bound to be varying opinions!) this list is a fun one: Forbes has narrowed the new 2008 luxury releases into their own top 10 most anticipated. Here's their list, but as in anything with cars to really get the effect you should see it in pictures.

Rolls Royce Auction For Cancer Cure

Richard J. Solove, real-estate developer and collector of Rolls Royce cars (among other things), is well known for his part in the foundation and generous support of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and the race to find a cure for cancer. And at 82 years old his giving spirit is stronger than ever as he plans to auction off 13 of the 14 Rolls Royce cars in his collection, with the proceeds going to fund cancer research through the James hospital and its affiliates.

Solove says that he has intended for his Rolls Royce collection to go to the hospital for years, and thought that now was the time while he was still able to enjoy the satisfaction of the contribution. He's quoted as saying "I strive to see a cure for cancer much more than I love my cars."

The auction will take place in August of this year in Pebble Beach, CA, and is expected to raise $15 million dollars or more.

Auction of MG Cars

If you've ever been a fan of MGs, this is the auction for you. Classic Driver reports that Wyles Hardy is handling the auction of the assets of MG Sport & Racing Cars. It's a comprehensive sale, everything from helmets and T-shirts to cars include two Qvale Mangustas, two XPower SV-Rs and the 400 bhp Peter Stevens-designed coupé. Also on the block are racing cars and record holders such as the MG ZR Judd 2.0 liter endurance racer that was used in the BritCar series, the MG 'ZT V8' Left Hand Drive Belcup Endurance Race Car which is the last competition car built by MG Sports & Racing Ltd and the MG 'ZT-T 765 Bonneville' Land Speed Car, which is the current holder of the world land speed record for an estate car.

Dr. Phil and Sir Paul auction off cars

It's time to check out the goods for the next Barrett-Jackson auction. The next auction, in Palm Beach, March 30 and April 1 will include two of Dr. Phil's exotic rides. The talk show host is unloading a 2002 Ferrari 360 Spider and a 2001 Gemballa Porsche Turbo. The Ferrari has titanium paint, chrome wheels and a blue convertible top with matching interior and the black Porsche is a 911 Turbo modified by Gemballa with a 415-horsepower 6-cylinder engine and upgraded performance suspension. The cars should both bring in six figures. Also on sale is a 2006 Cadillac CTS owned by musician Paul McCartney. The car was built for McCartney with no animal products and proceeds from the sale of McCartney's car will go to Adopt-A-Minefield.
