Lamborghini, The Perfume

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Cosmetics and Fragrance

This week on Monday the world's leading fragrance company, Coty Inc., announced that they've agreed to create a new innovative fragrance line for men under the Tonino Lamborghini brand name. Coty plans to play off the brand's "sexy, sleek, and exclusive" appeal to create something "explosive" in men's fragrance. Expect to see the resulting Tonino Lamborghini fragrance in Europe and Asia in the spring of 2008, and in the U.S. and around the world sometime after that.

And if you go for auto-inspired fragrances but can't wait until next year or later to start smelling good there's always scents available from Mustang, Hummer, and even the Daytona 500 to hold you over.

Mazda Limited Edition Chronograph Watch

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Luxury Cars & Autos

Mazda has done watches before, but not quite like this one. Working with German watch maker Sinn Spezialuhren Frankfurt, Mazda is releasing a limited edition watch chronograph that was specifically designed and created for Mazda. Many features of the watch were inspired by and can also be found on Mazda vehicles, such as the rounded square theme found in the air intake, tail lights, and door handles, and the silicon rubber watch band shares its design with the tires on the Mazda Hakaze. It will be available in Europe in mid-August of this summer for about $2000.

An Update On The Acabion GTBO

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We first wrote about the Acabion GTBO last year but now a Daily Mail story reveals more details about this unique vehicle. The Acabion GTBO can hit a top speed of 342 miles per hour. The two-seater car has a motorcycle engine and produces less carbon dioxide emissions than a standard car. There is also a separate electric motor for low speed trips or for backing up. The vehicle has two main wheels plus two smaller wheels on hydraulic arms than can be lowered for stability. The car will have a £130,000, 26-speaker audio system (no idea how they fit 26 speakers in such a tiny space). It may go faster than a Bugatti but it will cost more too, it will sell for £1 million.

Eddie Griffin Drives a Ferrari Enzo...Into a Wall

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Maybe it's because he's rich, or maybe it's because he's an actor and spends so much time "faking" emotions, but I don't think Eddie Griffin looked nearly upset enough in this video when he accidentally ran a Ferrari Enzo into a cement wall during a practice lap for an upcoming charity event promoting his newest movie, Redline. I realize that sad things like this happen all the time in Hollywood and in the movie-making industry, but that doesn't mean I have to like it -- especially when it happens by mistake!

At least no one was seriously injured - that is, if you're not counting the car, which is (was) valued at over $1 million dollars.

Riding in Nazarian's Bugatti Veyron

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Sam Nazarian is big business. CEO of SBE Entertainment, Sam is quickly making a name for himself with a number of the highest-end restaurants, most exclusive clubs (L.A.'s famous Hyde is one), and most sought-after real estate to name just a few of his many projects. So what does a man like Sam do in his spare time? Drive around in his new Bugatti Veyron, impressing women, of course.

And Sue Callaway, of Fortune magazine, definitely seemed impressed when she got to ride in, and test drive, the $1.4 million sports car. Smooth, exclusive, and "jet-like" (Sue's words) in speed and power, I might never be interested in spending that much on a car, but I sure would have loved having her job that day.

Lamborghini Coming to a Store Near You?

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

No (before you get too excited), there won't be a car dealership with a showroom full of gorgeous Lamborghini's available for window shopping on a Saturday afternoon. There just might be, however, a Lamborghini retail store selling brand items -- so you can have your own more affordable piece of the famous Italian name.

At this point it's just an idea in the works, as Lamborghini is looking for new ways to boost public awareness of its exclusive brand. Previously they've hooked up with Versace and Nokia for different promotions, and now are considering a chain of merchandise stores as part of a bigger plan for controlled growth. Don't look for a sudden flood of Lamborghini's in your neighborhood though, because the newest $170,000+ Gallardo Superleggera model has at least a 1 year waiting list -- and Lamborghini wants to keep it that way.

10 Must-Drives In 2007

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Forbes just put together an impressive list of 2007 model year must-drives – impressive not only because of the hyper-sophisticated technology inside top-doggers like Audi's new $120,000, 420-horsepower R8 (pictured), but also because a lot of this technology is finding its way into relatively reasonably priced vehicles like Volvo's first V8 sedan, the S80, which starts below $40,000. So there you go, motorheads! Ten not-so-boring Sundays await you. Check out Forbes' entire list in a slideshow here.

Aston Martin DBS - The New BondMobile

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

A new 007 movie is on the horizon, and therefore a beautiful new top-secret Aston Martin, dubbed the DBS, which we first covered back in May. Very little is known about the super-car's engineering at the moment, but as Aston Martin Design Director, Marek Reichman, puts it, "This car encapsulates a link between our elegant DB9 road car and the powerful DBR9 race car", so it's safe to assume that it'll easily allow Bond - James Bond - to save the world with his usual style and grace. No word on the car's price or availability, but in the meantime you can start polishing your secret agent demeanor with Casino Royale Spy Gear.

Rare Duesenberg Sells for $2.64 Million

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Auctions

What price beauty? How about $2.64 million? That's what this 1931 Duesenberg J Special Phaeton went for during the auction of 90 rare cars and motorcycles owned by late Los Angeles Times publisher Otis Chandler on October 21st. The Gooding and Company auction brought in over $36 million. The Duesenberg wasn't the only $2 million car, a 1904 Mercedes 40/45 HP Sports Touring went for $2.25 million. The collection was deemed important not because of the size but because it featured so many great items. Chandler began collecting cars when he was a student at Stanford University in 1947 and he wanted the cars to go to other collectors after his death.

Devaux Coupe

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

I maintain a deep and abiding love for old Bugattis so the article on the Devaux Coupe in Classic Driver made my heart quicken. Devaux Cars is an Australian company that makes big swoopy, fantasy cars inspired by the fanciful lines of some of the great 1930s cars. David Clash is the designer behind this drivable flight of fancy and the car is full of delicious details such as a split windshield, leather interior and a truly bodacious rear with a big fender in a tear drop shape. The cars have shown up at a handful of shows and the Devaux website has a sign-up for those who are interested in this sexy two-seater.

A shot of the interior is after the jump.

Saleen Opens Southern California Store

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We've mentioned the droolworthy Saleen cars before, now the boutique auto maker has a store. The Saleen store is located in Orange County, California at the Irvine Spectrum. The store is split in half with one side devoted to "lifestyle" (gear, posters etc.) and one side devoted to the technical side including interactive displays about Saleen performance. The store features a dissected Saleen Mustang under glass so you can really check out what is under the hood. The store also has two driving simulators that let you race a Saleen S7. To fill up you and your car there is the Saleen N2O Bar that offers ice cream, oxygen, Red Bull and soda for people and nitrous oxide and hydrogen for cars. The Irvine manufacturing plant is located nearby and factory tours can be scheduled.

Bentley Driving Program

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We already know that Ferrari, Land Rover, and Lamborghini have driving school programs and Maserati recently opened a North American driving school but do we really need a school to drive a Bentley? Automobile Magazine covers the Bentley Driving Program which recently came to Las Vegas. The program is for Bentley owners and those who are sales prospects. For $1500 you get to spend a day playing around with a Bentley learning not only some driving skills but also a bit of Bentley history and lore. Reading this article it seems that where the exotic car driving schools often focus on the vroom-vroom race car approach, Bentley teaches capability and grace. Of course some of the exercises do take place at 100 mph so there is still the adrenaline factor. Many of the Bentley drivers i have encountered in the Los Angeles area could definitely benefit from a little schooling.

A drivable piece of rock memorabilia is going on the block on May 24. That's when H & H Auctions is selling the red 1985 Bentley Continental that used to tote Elton John around. This drophead coupe was featured in the video for his song "Nikita" and is estimated to sell for £44-48000 ($81,162-$88,540). The car was sold to its current owner back in 2002 so it's not Elton-fresh although they promise it is in top condition.  The car has 33,500 miles on it and has a ten-disc CD player and extra speakers. The car also has a  B20 ELT registration and is offered for sale with history file and MOT certificate valid until May 2007.
