The Carlsson CK63 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Carlsson of Germany is premiering the CK63 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG this month. The list of exterior features includes a front grille insert, rear spoiler, and Carlsson stainless steel exhaust system while the interior boasts a Carlsson sport steering wheel, enhanced multi-media, and fully customizable trim options. That's all well and good (it does look awesome!) but the best part is how they've improved the vehicle's performance, giving it 565hp and the ability to go from 0-60mph in just 3.8 secs. The engine is capable of moving the car much faster but (to protect us all from the crazies out there) it's electronically limited to a mere 186 mph. Even so the whole deal sounds (and looks) pretty sweet.

Lux Tip: Drive a Luxury Car for Less

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Lux Tips

Want to drive a luxury brand automobile but can't afford it? You might be surprised to find that many luxury brands (like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Lincoln) offer vehicles that start in the low 30s. Just by foregoing a few extras like a bigger engine and built-in GPS you could be driving a new luxury car for about the same as you'd expect to pay for a nice Toyota or Honda. It really comes down to deciding if the term "fully loaded" is really that important to you -- do you have to have that gas-guzzling V8? If the answer is 'no' then you suddenly have a lot more options.

The Rolls Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Here's a classy looking clutch that has absolutely nothing in the way of ruffles, gems, or other frills. It's even a fairly rugged shade of pewter gray. The perfect nice-but-just-a-little-casual clutch to go with a favorite sweater dress or maybe nice jeans and a cute top. The Rolls Clutch by Marc Jacobs features an old-time Rolls-Royce on its foldover front with silver-studded wheels, press stud closure, zipped compartments on both the back and on the inside, and an interior fully lined in smooth brown leather. Bring a small bit of unexpected fashion statement to your next get-together. $1,095

Weber Sportscars Faster One: The World's Fastest Car?

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The Weber Sportscar's faster one is being billed by its Swiss manufacturer as the world's fastest street legal sportscar. It can reportedly go from 0 - 62 mph in 2.7 seconds and 0 - 124 mph in just 6.6 secs. It's a lightweight two-seater with a V8 engine and has serious aerodynamic styling including doors with no external handles, a smooth underfloor that flairs into an upturned Venturi tunnel, and an electronically controlled deployable rear wing.

It might be fast but to me it's a little "flimsy" looking. And for almost $1.6 million dollars I want something both fun to drive and fun to look at.

Cute, streamlined, and boasting zero emissions, the new electric Bentley Greenpower tops out at 40mph while running on two 12-volt batteries that power its lightweight motor. Built by a group of Bentley factory apprentices (who are now referred to as Team Bentley) the one-wheel-drive car is comprised mostly of carbon fibre and features a bright chromed grill, Bentley leather interior and a custom Bentley-branded steering wheel. The car will participate in several races throughout the summer with the final one happening at Goodwood in October.

Drop in Demand for Luxury Cars Continues

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Do luxury markets really hold up better than others during an economic crunch? Many experts say no, and it would seem the steady decline in luxury auto sales is backing them up. Estimates say that automobile sales fell in March, which would mark the 5th straight month of decline and could result in the lowest numbers since 2005. Analysts speculate the drop in auto buyers has to do with several factors, including higher-end buyers holding onto their vehicles longer (waiting for the market to improve) and fewer entry-level lux auto owners being able to afford to buy right now due to increasing costs in other areas of their budget.

Simon Cowell Picks Up A Bugatti Veyron

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Celebrity Shopping

Simon Cowell blew some serious cash on some serious wheels recently when he had some spare time on his hands (and apparently some spare cash) due to a week off work for the Rugby World Cup. He dropped over £1,000,000 in LA on two new cars: a £750,000 Bugatti Veyron and a £400,000 Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe.

Somehow this doesn't surprise me. Simon Cowell hardly seems to shy away from flash and attention, and although fast cars don't necessarily mean an ego problem (I would love to have a Veyron myself!) I think in his case they might!

Luxury Car Condos and Extreme Garages

Filed under: Services, Luxury Cars & Autos

The thing about collecting cars is that storage easily becomes an issue -- you can't leave a 1956 Mercedes-Benz sitting out on the street. But if you're regular garage is already full of other vehicles, what's to be done? Usually cars end up in storage garages or in public parking facilities, but obviously sitting an investment like that in a corner somewhere under a tarp collecting dust is hardly ideal.

Enter the Taj Garage (I can't help but smile at the name), and other companies like it springing up across the country. They will work with you to create a customized car-storage experience -- basically a beautiful, clean condo for your vehicle(s) to live in complete with bathroom, wet bar, 24 hour security, and maybe even a private rooftop club for socializing with your car-minded condo neighbors. Now it can't get much better than that.

The Most Envied Cars

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The cliché "money can't buy everything" is true, and we're not just talking about love or happiness. Money may not be able to buy you the car you want either, depending on exactly which one it is. According to this list the most sought after and coveted car in the world is the Aston Marton DBS. Have one? Be proud, because if you don't not only will you have to dish out $265,000 but you'll also have to spend 28 months or more on the waiting list.

Other cars with enormous "envy" factors include the Morgan Aeromax, the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, and the Ferrari F599 GTB Fiorano.

I am so green right now.

Crystal License Plate Frames

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Nobody actually needs a Swarovski crystal encrusted license plate frame, but who wouldn't want one? And these aren't your everyday Swarovski crystals, either - the L2B frame consists of 500 'chaton' crystals, which are cut with a pointed back for even more brilliance and shine. Like jewelry for your ride, these glam plates are available in Ice clear, Sapphire blue, Flamingo pink or Gold yellow. Buy a pair for $199 and look good coming and going.

Based on a real Baby Bugatti purchased at auction, Authentic Model's reproduction was made to the exact scale of the original and comes loaded with all the bells and whistles one would expect on a 1927 plaything for the rich and famous. The coaster features handmade aluminum coachwork and frame, cast aluminum wheels and leather bonnet straps and seat. The radiator is chrome-finished bronze and the brakes and gears are included. $4,000.

BMW Welt. BMW's Fancy New Palace Of Cars

Filed under: Services, Luxury Cars & Autos

BMW Welt, or BMW World in English, is located in Munich Germany and is designed to present new BMW owners with their vehicles in the best light possible -- literally. After purchasing a new BMW, owners will have the option of passing on picking up their car the boring way (at a local dealer) and can instead head over to get the full treatment at BMW Welt. Their car will be gleaming and glittering under a spotlight while spinning slowly on a turntable -- what better way to see your brand new purchase for the first time?

Of course there's a lot more going on at BMW Welt than just cars on turntables, although with 170 cars being delivered there daily come October there's got to be a lot of turning going on.

50 Cent's Lamborghini on eBay

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Auctions, Celebrity Shopping

I really don't understand the appeal of selling big name items online -- isn't eBay largely for bargain hunters? But obviously there are plenty of people who don't share my views, as demonstrated by how well this 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago, rumored to be owned by rapper 50 cent, is doing. The auction ends soon and as of writing this post there are 15 bidders and it's currently at $310,000. 50 isn't actually mentioned in the auction, but based on this YouTube video it sure looks like he's the mysterious "celebrity owner."

The DeLorean is Coming Back

Deloreans are still quite popular these days, especially considering they were a fairly short-lived and limited brand that went out of production way back in 1982. Of course the movie Back to the Future can claim most of the credit for the cult following the car received, but the gull-wing doors and space-age design is what got it chosen for the movie in the first place. And now the thousands of refurbished and rebuilt DeLoreans on the roads will have to share the street with new models, because the DeLorean is going back into production.

A new car company comprised of devout DeLorean fans who have been refurbishing them for years is planning to begin building brand new DeLoreans sometime next year. Called DeLorean Motor Company (yep, they got the rights to the name) the cars will be very exclusive with only 20 or so made per year. And pricing? Well back in 1982 they went for around $25,000...do you think we could be so lucky? Yeah, I think not.

The Imperial, The Luxury Car That Never Was

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Gas prices and the worldwide fuel situation are now officially responsible for the decision Chrysler just made to put the kabosh on plans for the new Imperial. The Imperial concept was first introduced last year at the Detroit Auto Show, and if built the Imperial would have fallen into the Chrysler line up at the very top -- above the 300C. But there will now be no Imperial, with Chrysler mentioning that the increasing costs for fuel and the ever tightening fuel economy standards would make production of the Imperial "irresponsible" at this time.
