Video: Girls of the Geneva Motor Show

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Events, Video

While we're enjoying the latest luxury and supercar news from our correspondent at the Geneva Motor Show, here's a video clip of some of the beautiful models who attracted the most stares. We're not talking about the machines themselves but rather the bevy of beauties hired to show them off to advantage. The Geneva show sees the debut of some of the world's hottest cars so the competition is fierce. While many spectators take the girls for granted, a sort of added attraction or sideshow to the main event, as The Classicist noted in this 2009 column car show girls are in fact carefully chosen "tools to present the [car brands'] corporate image in a very distinctive way." Our advice: don't read too much into it, just enjoy the show.

London Salon Privé to Feature Exclusive Veritas RS III Supercar

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

It may seem like a strange time to be promoting six-figure supercars, but evidently somebody forgot to tell the organizers of the London Salon Privé. The exclusive supercar show is held every year at the Hurlingham Club, but this year's, despite the economic situation, is slated to be the biggest yet.

Headlining this year's salon will be the Veritas RS III, an exotic roadster made in Germany. Packing a choice of 480-horsepower V8 or 600-horsepower V10 sourced from BMW's elite M division, the RS III carries a price tag upwards of $375,000 and can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds en route to a top speed in excess of 200 mph while delivering the most unadulterated motoring experience known to man. Only 50 examples will be produced, and the first is making its world debut at the London show. Several new high-priced rides will also be on display for the first time in the UK, including the Morgan Aero Super Sport, Aston Martin One-77, Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S and Maybach Zeppelin. A day pass to the event will cost £125 when the show opens on July 22.

Ridiculously Sparkly Mercedes-Benz at the Tokyo Auto Salon

Swarovski studded Mercedes Benz
This is ridiculous.

Remember the $350,000 Swarovski-studded Mercedes-Benz at the 2007 Moscow Millionaire Fair? Well, they've done it again.

The above photo is from the Tokyo Auto Salon 2009, and it features a customized Mercedes-Benz SL600 (aka the Luxury Crystal Benz) covered in 300,000 Swarovski crystals. We don't know how much it costs, but frankly, we weren't about to purchase it.

Even Barbie wouldn't get in that gaudy thing.

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

It's practically old news at this point but I would be remiss if I didn't direct you to Autoblog's pics of the Spyker C12 Zagato debut in Geneva. This is one gorgeous and hotly anticipated vehicle. There will be just 24 of these cars available and it has a 6.0L W12 engine that can go to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 193 mph. The cars sell for $648,000. Autoblog has a luscious gallery with details of this unique vehicle.

Diamond-Covered Mercedes SL

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

It seems unlikely that there is a car with more bling on it than this Mercedes SL, spotted at an auto show overseas. From a distance, it almost appears that the car is coated in glitter, but it is actually covered in diamonds. I won't speculate on the value, but you can bet that this isn't a car just anyone will turn up in.

Ferrari GG50

Reporting from the North American Auto Show in Detroit, our sibling Autoblog takes a look at the Ferrari GG50. The V-12 540 HP sports coupe originally debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show and is based on Ferrari’s 612 Scaglietti. If you cover up the emblems you would probably not guess it's a Ferrari, or would you?
