Audi A3 Sedan To Join Mercedes B Class and BMW Front-Drive Cars

German luxury car brands are continuing to reach lower in price and smaller in size to attract more Generation Y premium shoppers, as well as some Gen X and Baby Boomers who have seen their wealth, if not their taste in brands, shrink in the last couple of years.

The latest is Audi's apparent plans to bring the A3 sedan to the U.S. for the 2013 model year. Audi currently sells just the Audi A3 five-door hatch in the U.S. The German company sold 6,558 of those last year, and there is speculation that the company could sell some 10,000-15,000 sedans a year if it brought it to the U.S.

2011 Geneva Motor Show: The Luxury Sedans & SUVs

Every year the Geneva Motor Show features a staggering array of new luxury sedans, estate wagons, crossovers and sport-utility vehicles on display. And this year's show, still ongoing at the Geneva Palexpo, has proven no exception.

Among the production and concept debuts in these diverse categories were new vehicles from Audi, BMW Alpina, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Saab and Volvo, as well as the return of De Tomaso. Audi RS3 Sportback

Bigger isn't always better. Case in point: the new Audi RS3 Sportback. Based on the compact A3, the RS3 Sportback is a five-door premium sport hatch that packs a whopping 340 horsepower from its turbocharged five-cylinder engine – through to all four corners via Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system and seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission – to rocket to 60 in just 4.6 seconds.

The RS3 Sportback's nearly 50,000 euro pricetag in Germany would put it around $68,000 in the United States. Unfortunately, like the rest of the top-shelf RS range, Audi does not appear to be planning to bring this model to America, so this is one more European model we'll just have to admire from afar.
