The Perfect Casual Shopping Tote, Handbags of the Day

tote
After reading my colleague Rigel's post about Anya Hindmarch's task-oriented canvas totes I began to hunt for other casual shopping totes for that occasional trip to the farmer's market, antique fair or wine country visit. There is no reason you should have to haul everything in your arms or, heaven forbid, gather your goods in a plastic bag. Saks has plenty of options to fit your needs from another Anya Hindmarch Day Tote (shown above) to Emilio Pucci and Juicy Couture. I can still remember my Mom's love of LeSportsac while I was growing up. Their line also carries many resilient yet fashionable options for the person on-the-go. Peruse the gallery to check out what bags inspire you to get out and enjoy the summer with the perfect casual tote on your arm.

Anya Hindmarch Canvas Tote, Handbag of the Day

Here are a couple of casual bags from Anya Hindmarch, because some days nothing but laid-back comfort will do. Natural canvas tote meets tan leather handles in this bag that's perfect for the grocery, farmer's market, and wherever else you need to take it. The bag comes in two designs, "Dairy" in a pink print shown above, and a gray version called "Dry Cleaning" that's in the gallery below. Both super relaxed, super timeless, and super versatile. I just wish there were more than only the two designs. $98

Disco Box Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Tis the season for holiday parties and excuses aplenty for indulging in a little extra glitz and glam. This Disco Box Clutch by Anya Hindmarch could be just the thing to add that extra oomph your holiday ensembles are looking for. The gold and silver leather will go with almost any outfit but will probably pop best against black or navy. The clutch features a golden clasp fastener on the top, a full lining with a pouch-style pocket on the interior, and in true clutch spirit there's no shoulder strap whatsoever. $460

Cheap Chic: Anya Hindmarch for Target

In its latest design collaboration, mass-retailer Target has teamed with handbag designer Anya Hindmarch, famous most recently for her cheeky and impossible-to-get "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" tote. This group of faux patent bags is a bit more styled and features options ranging from an oversized clutch to a chic yet roomy tote. Though the collection won't hit stores until October 12, shoppers will be able to purchase online at Anya Hindmarch's site from October 8 through October 12. Mouses, on your marks.

Cheap Chic: Target's Bullseye Bodegas Open Today

The much-anticipated Target Bullseye Bodegas officially open today at 10 a.m. in four locations throughout Manhattan, offering discerning shoppers a sampling of their cheap chic wares only until September 15th. The bodegas are scattered across the city in Union Square, Midtown, SoHo and the East Village. The mega-chain has culled 22 designers from its stable, including cult shoe gals Sigerson Morrison and handbag guru Anya Hindmarch.

And although the goods are priced to move, getting your hands on anything could prove difficult if last night's preview is any indication. This season's pop-up store exclusivity -- was it ever so good as Colette X Gap and Commes des Garcons at H&M? -- just might trump designer rags this fall.

Anya Hindmarch Charlie Ponyskin Tote, Handbag of the Day

This bag is the Charlie Ponyskin Tote by Anya Hindmarch and my favorite thing about it is the unexpectedly athletic canvas shoulder strap. It's a chocolate leather bag with gold hardware and a very structured, rectangular shape. The relaxed canvas strap with sporty stripe gives it a suddenly hip and somewhat casual vibe (for me casual is always good), and I also like that it has protective feet on the bottom and a luxe suede lining. Other features include patent leather trim, two handles on the top along with an almost clutch-style handle, and zip pockets on both the back and inside. $1,575

Aretha Shoulder Strap Bag by Anya Hindmarch, Handbag of the Day

Anya Hindmarch is an accessories designer out of England, who quickly gained popularity worldwide. Her handbag and shoe collections are frequently featured in leading fashion magazines like Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, and in both 2006 and 2007 Anya was named Designer of the Year by Glamour magazine. This haute little number is called the Aretha Shoulder Strap Bag. White calfskin leather is accented with trendy gold stud work, while the inside is rigged with all the organizational must haves: zippered pockets, a pen holder and a key latch. Available at Ron Herman (Fred Segal) for $1,050.

Anya Hindmarch Clint Day Bag, Handbag of the Day

Sleek and modern in dramatic orange and cream, the Clint Day Bag sports an off-center strip of gleaming metallic leather and a funky buckle closure. It is very contemporary, but somehow has a vintage look - maybe it's the orange calfskin leather giving it that seventies vibe? A simple rolled leather handle and cream colored suede lining finish things off nicely. The bag measure 12"W x 8:H x ½"D. $945.

Anya Hindmarch Janie Clutch, Handbag of the Day

This is not your average metallic bag. The fabric is called 'broken mirror' and the look is dramatic. Made from crackled calf leather, the stunning pewter fabric is repeated on multi-faceted 'gems' and again on the frame. You can never have too much of a good thing, right? The kiss-lock closure features pewter colored balls in a silver setting and the whole package is like a gorgeous piece of jewelry. $385.

Anya Hindmarch Squirrel Change Purse, Handbag of the Day

It's not very often that you see a designer bag of any kind that features a small, furry animal on the front unless the bag is made of fur, but this Anya Hindmarch mini change purse does. It proudly showcases a perky little squirrel on a background of red and pink satin. The silver clasp contrasts nicely with the rest of the bag and even brings out the highlights in the squirrel's fur. Do you think she's a fan of Cute Overload? Price: $75.

Anya Hindmarch Eldond Large Leather Bag, Handbag of the Day

White in winter? Actually, this Eldond Large Leather Bag is part of Anya Hindmarch's spring collection. The over-sized leather tote is studded with golden ball accents and a logo stamp on the front of the bag, reflecting the warmth that will finally take the edge of winter's chill. It has a single shoulder strap, an open top and several internal pockets to keep your sunglasses and other spring accessories neatly arranged. The bottom of the bag is reinforced with a second layer of leather and also has small golden feet to protect it, whether you are toting it around town or lounging on a cruise ship. Price: $975.
