The CusinArt Resort Hosts The Bachelor

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Monday night's episode of The Bachelor took Brad Womack and his bevy of beauties to the Caribbean island of Anguilla. As our sister site Gadling reported, the episode was filmed at the CuisinArt Resort (yes, from the same company that makes the food processor). As with other resorts chosen as sites for the show, the CuisinArt resort has created a special package for those who saw the show and want to create their own romantic getaway, albeit hopefully without the fierce fighting for "one-on-one" dates.

Abramovich's 'Eclipse' Meets the 'A' in Anguilla
Having had their fill of St. Barth's and the supermodels and celebs who converged on its posh purlieus for New Year's, Russian billionaires Roman Abramovich and Andrei Melnichenko have now decamped with their megayachts to Anguilla. Abramovich, who stopped off in Barbados en route, dominates the seascape in the Eclipse (above), his $500 million, 550-ft. behemoth built by Blohm + Voss, while Melnichenko makes do with his measly $300 million Philippe Starck-designed destroyer 'A'. Abramovich also brought the Luna along for the ride to Anguilla, the 377 ft. explorer yacht he purchased last year as a sort of support yacht for the Eclipse and lent to Madonna last summer. All three of the enormous vessels were anchored off Meads Bay, allowing their owners easy access to Anguilla's posh resorts including the Viceroy, Frangipani Beach Resort, Carimar Beach Club and Malliouhana Hotel and Spa.

Exploring the Caribbean's Most Exclusive Escapes

Filed under: Decor, Luxury Travel & Hotels, Books

Seasoned travel journalist and luxury hotel expert Meg Nolan Van Reesema sussed out the Caribbean's most exotic and exclusive escapes for her entrancing new book Caribbean Hideaways: Discovering Enchanting Rooms and Private Villas from Rizzoli. The thirty gorgeous destinations from fifteen different islands featured in the book were chosen for their unique views, elegant decor – no examples here of the tacky tropical style we like to call "Caribbean Awful" – and unique ambience. Over 200 vibrant photographs by Jessica Antola bring the desirable destinations to life, while practical information about the best suites, what to expect during your stay, and the local surroundings is also included.

Standouts include the relaxed, chic bungalows of Hermitage Bay in Antigua with dark wood furnishings and freestanding tubs; the open-air guest rooms of Jade Mountain in St. Lucia with unparalleled views of the Piton peaks; the posh, private Oliver Messel-designed Fustic House estate in Barbados; the spectacular Balinese furnishings of Anguilla's Bird of Paradise Villa; St. Barth's super-stylish Isle de France hotel; the ultra-luxe Yemanja villa on Mustique (pictured on the book's cover above) complete with a private screening room; and the elegant British Colonial-style Colleton Suite at Barbados' Cobblers Cove. New Villas at CuisinArt Resort & Spa, Anguilla

Filed under: Dining, Luxury Travel & Hotels

If you're a foodie and wish you could vacation with your favorite kitchen appliances -- well, that would just make you weird.

But here's something that's not: go stay at the CuisinArt Resort & Spa in Anguilla. It's the first summer season for the resort's latest expansion, three 5-bedroom, 5,100 square foot villas. These also can be booked as three bedroom ground floor accommodations or as two-bedroom second floor accommodations. The second floor has the sea view.

The resort is owned by Leandro Rizzuto, owner and founder of Conair Corporation. (He founded the company with a $100 investment and the invention of hot air curlers, by the way. ) Conair acquired kitchen appliance manufacturer CuisinArt in 1989, and it does make a better name for the resort than the parent company's name. (Also, there'd be the unfortunate move connection.)

I am told they do you use CuisinArts in the resorts kitchens so if you really are weirdly lonely for your blender, you could probably arrange a visit. (Although check out the photos -- you should really be able to distract yourself.) More in the realm of reality, the toiletries are by Rusk which is also owned by Conair, so bathrooms are stocked with full-sized bottles of shampoo and such, that you can take home with you after your stay. No word on whether there are hot-air curlers too.

Viceroy Residences In Anguilla Ready For Summer In Paradise

Viceroy Residences In Anguilla
We first heard about these a couple years ago but the Viceroy Anguilla Residences are now ready for immediate occupancy. The 134 private island residences command an idyllic spot on 3,200 feet of white sand beaches on Barnes and Meads Bays along Anguilla's northwest shore. The Viceroy Anguilla is currently in its final sales release with contemporary beachfront and blufftop villas, townhomes and resort residences on offer starting at $935,000 and going as high as $9.9 million. Around 75 percent of these residences have been sold to date, with over $15 million in new sales generated in 2010. So much for the real estate slump.

The interiors were designed by famed tastemaker Kelly Wearstler, who matched the scenic natural beauty of the area with sculptural and organic elements such as driftwood, rattan, travertine and hand-carved sculptures. Homeowners at Viceroy Anguilla also receive membership into the Viceroy Club with discounts and preferred access privileges at the Caribbean resort and throughout the entire Viceroy Hotel Group collection of properties. Amenities on the property include both fine dining and casual restaurants, an 8,000 square-foot two-story oceanfront spa, three championship tennis courts, personal chef/butler service and a Kid's/Teen's Club. Residents can also place their home in the rental management program. Click through after the jump for a tour of the property.

Anguilla Resort Heads Into Receivership

More resort woes in the Caribbean. The Wall Street Journal reports that Credit Suisse, which represents investors in the Temenos resort on Anguilla, has taken over the project and appointed a receiver to manage it. The resort, which was supposed to have a 32-room hotel and 78 villas offered for sale in the millions, carried a $180 million mortgage. The luxury development was the brainchild of entertainment mogul Robert F.X. Sillerman, who began planning the resort in 2002 and put $180 million of his own money into the project in addition to the monster mortgage. Construction was stopped in 2008 and it is said that the project will need another $125 million for completion. The receiver will be charged with finding a deep-pocketed savior for the project to either finish the resort or take over completely.

Sillerman has had a long career in the entertainment world. In the late 1970s he and a partner created a company that bought up radio and television stations. He used cash from that first venture to build SFX Entertainment into a huge promoter of live entertainment. That company was later sold to Clear Channel for $4.4 billion in 2000. His latest company is CKX, Inc., which we recently wrote about in December. The company bought controlling interest of Elvis Presley Enterprises in 2004 including Graceland and has been working on a major redevelopment project for the 100 acres surrounding the Tennessee home. CKX is also the parent company for Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment which owns the "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance?" franchises.

Like the Four Seasons Barbados project I mentioned last month, this one also had its share of celebrity investors and other well-heeled buyers, some of who paid deposits of up to 40 percent on idyllic vacation homes. Buyers include bestselling author Dan Brown and television producer Simon Fuller.

Luxury Houses: Holiday Escapes

Filed under: Decor, Estates, Luxury Travel & Hotels, Books

Hotels are fine as far as they go. For a really luxurious vacation however, renting a private house or villa is much the better choice. Of course the prices at the top-end can be astronomical. If money is no object, however, a new book called Luxury Houses: Holiday Escapes is a perfect guide to the best high-end hideaways around the globe. One of the standouts is Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld's former villa in Monaco (pictured here), which can be yours for a mere €30,000 per week. For that you get six bedrooms, panoramic views of the ocean and the mountains from an enormous terrace, a pool, Jacuzzi, game room and a tent on a private beach. The interior is described unironically as "quasi royal."

Also on display is the Birkenhead House in Hermanus, South Africa (about $7,000 per night) with eleven bedrooms and three pools, dominating a steep cliff above Walker Bay where whales frolic; and Villa Indigo in the Caribbean Sea within a protective reef in Anguilla with two pools and a private beach and sandbar, for $16,000 - $38,000 a week depending on the season; as well as dozens more ritzy rentals from ski chalets in Switzerland to modern palaces in China.
