Android Virtuoso Tunsgten Tourbillon Watch
Highly anticipated among the ShopNBC watch crowd of US timepiece consumers is this Android Virtuoso Tungsten Tourbillon watch. While by no means a first of its kind, the propulsion of this type of watch in to the mainstream of US watch buying is interesting. Set as a budget-friendly tourbillom movement-based timepiece, this watch still carries with it a $3,000 price. Does this mark an interest in tourbillon movements by "regular" watch loving Americans?

A tourbillon is a type of rotating escapement that was originally designed to make mechanical watches more accurate. Most Swiss watches that feature a tourbillon complication are priced in the the tens of thousands of dollars is not more. They are often found on very high-end timepieces and are known to be very difficult to make. For years China has been making their own tourbillon movements as well. No one claims that these compete directly with their Swiss counterparts, but the availability thereof does help satiate the desires of watch aficionados who cannot afford more traditional types of tourbillon movement-based watches.

Acer Liquid E Ferrari Special Edition Smartphone

acer ferrari smartphone

Looking for the Ferrari of mobile phones? Ferrari itself has come up with a few, all made by different manufacturers. This is the latest, and probably the most advanced.

The Liquid E is made by Acer, Ferrari's technological partner that already produces a line of special laptops for the Italian sportscar-maker and racing team. With a 3.5-inch touchscreen, Snapdragon processor and 5-megapixel digital camera, the Liquid E is no slouch, but for the Ferrari special edition it's been upgraded with a special red case, Prancing Horse badge surrounded by carbon fiber trim, a microphone cutout designed after the air intake on the side of a Scuderia Ferrari F1 car, and in all likelihood a variety of Ferrari-themed wallpapers, icons, screen savers and ring-tones. It also comes with a matching Bluetooth earpiece.

No word on pricing just yet as it's just been unveiled, but expect that to be suitably Ferrari-inspired as well.

Rent a Fembot

The name Sanrio is usually associated with Hello Kitty, but perhaps now it will also be associated with another girly product: fembots. A Sanrio subsidiary, Kokoro, created and refined the Actroid DER2. She has a much wider range of motion and expression than the previous DER model, and her lip movements coordinate surprisingly well with her speech. Unfortunately, she has to be pre-programmed with things to say and motions, so she won't really be able to interact with you, but you can still rent her for about $3,500 per week (400,000 yen) if you're interested in taking her - and possibly her tech support people - for a spin.

Ballroom Dancing Robot

Ballroom dancing is gaining popularity with amazing speed thanks to shows like Dancing with the Stars, so a competition that once only interested a small portion of the public is now prime-time viewing. But doing something is a lot more fun than watching others do it, so dance lessons and competitions are becoming more popular, as well. One of the biggest obstacles that a dancer faces is finding the right partner and, at least for men, that search just got a little easier thanks to Ballroom Dancing Robots. The robots are battery powered and can sense and anticipate their partners' movements. They reportedly move with a fair amount of agility, too. Each one will sell for about $300,000, and you can download a video clip of them here.
