Travel Like A Celebrity (i.e. Better than First Class)

For millions of travelers every year who fly coach it's hard to walk past the spacious first class seats and through the little curtain to the cramped rows in the rear, but what do those first class passengers look up to? Those traveling better than first class, of course.

Many airlines offer "extra special" treatment to celebrities and other big names, and although the services vary from airline to airline some things are consistent across the board: little to no waiting in airport lines, extreme efforts to protect privacy, and extra security. Plus, of course, VIP lounges and premium food/drink. Not a celebrity? You can buy the services yourself and feel like one for only about $100.

Most of the airlines who offer special upgrades don't advertise their services, and many don't even post them on websites and flyers. Airport Assistance Worldwide, though, is one that isn't so secretive. On their website you can check out services and even make a reservation. Happy travels!

Google Founders Get Yet Another New Jet

Those Google guys must really be into over-sized private jets, because they're at it again! Apparently having 3 private jets, including a Boeing 767, with landing rights on NASA's Moffett Airfield wasn't good enough for them as they've now added a Boeing 757 to their ever-growing fleet.

Although smaller than the 767 they already have, obviously the 757 is still a large aircraft. Why does Google need so much in the way of wings? Who knows really, but a move like this sure is to get people talking.

Sycamore Ceiling Fan

I remember when I was kid getting such a kick when there was a big gust of wind and all the dried seeds would come twirling down like waves of little helicopters from the trees. Well apparently nature has the right idea, because it turns out the design of a Sycamore seed makes for an extremely efficient ceiling fan. It creates the same air flow with less noise and at slower speeds than traditional fans, and because it runs slower the natural form and beauty of the dynamically balanced blade is visible even when the fan is in use. Plus the Sycamore Ceiling Fan has a great modern look for those looking for something other than the usual 4 or 5 blade design.

AirPod

Blue Air's AirPod is a visual riff on the iPod, but is nothing like the mp3 player. The AirPod is a small air purifier, which allows you to "create your personal clean air zone" and do it in style, as the patterned filters can be swapped in and out of the base with ease. The pod can clean 45 cubic feet of air per minute. It can be used at work, at home and even when traveling, as the gadget is incredibly light and small, standing just 13" high with the filter. It is also very eco friendly, using less manufacturing material, less packaging and even less energy than air purifiers with comparable performance. On top of that, all of its parts and packaging are 100% recyclable. Price: $99 .

Changi's Luxury Airport Terminal

The Changi Airport in Singapore is scheduled to open the world's first luxury airport terminal in August. The terminal is the equivalent of a first class cabin on the ground. Fliers can pay an additional fee to gain access to the terminal, where they will be treated to the ultimate travel experience, with people to take care of luggage and procure their boarding passes for them, as well as quickly get travelers through security procedures, sans lines. The CIPs (Commercially Important Persons) will be able to lounge in the terminal's comfortable facilities, spared from having to interact with the ordinary travelers, and when it comes time to board their flight, they can even pay to have a limo drive them onto the tarmac and directly up to the plane. Prices have not yet been fixed for the use of the terminal, which cost $10 million to build. It expects to start off with approximately 50 travelers per day.

Standing Room Only?

Better start saving up your frequent flier miles because in the not-too-distant future, you may really need them. It is possible that air travel will no longer be an issue of first class versus coach and how much leg room you'll have, but whether you'll have leg room at all.

Some airlines are toying with the idea of eliminating seats from their economy classes and having the section be standing only. Instead of seats, there will be padded boards for patrons to lean against during takeoff and landing, as FAA regulations only require passengers to be "secure," not seated. Airbus, which is the airplane manufacturer heading this movement, has been pitching the idea to several carriers, mostly those in Asia that they perceive as more likely to accept the sardine-like travel arrangements than Americans. The capacity for a flight on an A380 is 500 passengers, but the standing configuration would boost that number to 853. All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines reported hearing of the plans from Airbus, but said they had "no interest in increasing seat capacity to [that] level."

There is little doubt that first class seats would be unaffected by a move towards this configurations, perhaps even increasing in size, as airlines add chairs than recline into beds and a wider than ever before.

Global Flyer Lands, Breaks Record

Steve Fossett has touched down at Bournemouth Airport putting a successful end to the Ultimate Flight. Fossett, who broke the world record for the longest flight ever at 26.389.3 miles and a duration of 76 hours and 45 minutes. Fossett was supposed to land at Kent International Airport, but had to make an emergency landing when his generator failed.  It was a rough landing, two tires burst and his windscreen was iced up but he is now on land and in need of a nap.
