We mentioned the heated
auction for Jack's shirts from Brokeback Mountain a few weeks ago. The auction closed on
February 20 and the shirts sold for
$101,100.51. Gay.com has an interview with the winner, collector Tom Gregory. Gregory is the life partner of David
Bohnett, founder of GeoCities and the head of the David Bohnett
foundation. In the interview, Gregory says he will never separate the shirts and he won't let anyone try them on.Filed under: Dining
Throwing an Oscar party? Eleni's cookies, a New York bakery does a whole series of Oscar-themed cookies each
year. There is the Best Picture series with little cowboy boots (Brokeback Mountain), cars (Crash), Olympic rings
(Munich), TVs (Good Night and Good Luck) and books (Capote). Even more adorable are the cookies with the faces of the
nominees for Best Actors and Actresses. The nominee sets sells for $58.50 each and include three sets of nominees and a
set of envelope cookies. I can't even bear to chomp the head of a chocolate Easter bunny, I'm not sure I could bite into
the charming face of Heath Ledger.Filed under: Events
Another stop on the endless pre-Oscar
swagfest is the Diamond Lounge 2006 which will be
held at the Peterson Automotive museum on March 3 and 4. The lounge features jewelry from Giorgio Visconti and
Boucheron Paris, Energetix rhinestone-studded magnet therapy bracelets, Fileena handmade jewelry (shown here), Pink
Moon New York handbags and Ting Bling gadget bedazzling service. There will be a spa area that features 24K gold nail
polish from Varnish, DermaNew, an at home micro-dermabrasion kit, a lip gloss bar from Lucy B Cosmetics, airbrush
tanning from SunFx, and Xtreme Lashes semi-permanent eyelash extensions. The clothing available will include Von Dutch
(is this stuff still popular?) and a new clothing line created by singer Macy Gray. Gray will show up to dress the
celebs. Not quite as luxe as the Lauder
swagfest but free stuff is still free stuff. Filed under: Jewelry
As the
Oscars approach, jewelers get ready for the big red carpet moments. National
Jeweler reports on some of the plans for local jewelers. Kwiat has announced
that they will be holding an Oscar suite in conjunction with Kodak from Feb. 27 to March 2. Those who visit the suite
will get a look at Kwiat's newest red-carpet designs, including the new collection of one-of-a-kind diamond jewelry
inspired by this year's nominees for best actress. Nominees get gift packages that feature a Kodak EasyShare camera
with their initials done up in Kwiat diamonds. Erica Courtney also has big
plans for the night including a $50,000 red-carpet gown made with Ali Rahimi of Mon Atelier and featuring 100 baroque
Tahitian pearls and platinum.
