Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari for Fernando Alonso & Felipe Massa

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Celebrity Shopping, Sports

Call it a junior Ferrari or a senior Fiat, but the Abarth 695 is all kinds of awesome. As well it should be, with a $47,000 sticker price. And who better to drive the "Tributo Ferrari", as the car is dubbed, than Ferrari's two star drivers?

On their way to claiming a devastating 1-3 finish at this past weekend's Italian Grand Prix, the Fiat Group's performance division handed the keys for these sought-after hot hatchbacks to both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. It may not be as fast as the Maseratis, Ferraris or Ducatis they've received previously, but a certain expression about a gift horse – a prancing one at that – comes to mind.

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then surely value has come to the same. Take the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari, for example. It's based on the Fiat 500, one of the most affordable, yet stylish cars on the market.

The Tributo Ferrari edition was unveiled almost a year ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It features a powerful 180-horsepower 1.4-liter 16-valve turbocharged four-cylinder engine, sport suspension, performance wheels, upgraded brakes and a special paint scheme inspired by the Ferrari 430 Scuderia.

The special edition has just gone on sale in the UK, where it is commanding a hefty £29,600 – nearly $47,000 in equivalent US Dollars. That's a big chunk of cash for a car that, in base form, doesn't cost half that much. But then, with only 152 right-hand drive models being shipped to the UK, exclusivity does have its price.

Baby Supercar: Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

At polar ends of the vastly expanding Fiat empire sit the Italian auto industry's sportiest, most performance-oriented marques: Abarth at one end, with its turbocharged little hatchbacks, and Ferrari at the other, with its fire-breathing exotic supercars. But now the two companies have come together for an exclusive project using the base from one as a tribute to the other.

Called the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari, it's essentially a Fiat 500 at heart, but tuned by engineers at Abarth and Ferrari to transform into another beast entirely. The eye-catching red paintjob with grey stripes mimics the Ferrari 430 Scuderia. Inside, watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre has fitted special instruments, and Sabelt has crafted special bucket seats. Under the hood, the turbocharged 1.4-liter 16-valve engine has been tuned by the collaborating engineers to produce over 180 horsepower, with a variable exhaust system and a paddle-shifted automated manual transmission. Brembo brakes hide behind 17" competition-spec wheels. And while it may not be the baby Ferrari some people have been waiting for, it's the closest some might get.
