Nomos Zurich World Time Watch

Using their brand new Caibre Xi mechanical world time movement, Glashutte based Nomos will release the Zurich World Time watch. One of at least two new watches to contain the new automatic movement. Nomos is one of the least expensive watch makers of hand-assembled in-house German watch movements (and watches). The Zurich (why named for a Swiss city if the brand is German I do not know), is one of their higher-end collection of timepieces.

The new Caliber Xi movement is an automatic and features black gold in its construction. It has about 42 hours of power reserve and had the time with subsidiary seconds, and a world time indicator on a second 24 hour disc. A pusher above the crown cycles through the references cities on a partially exposes disc. The time for the city shown under the 12 o'clock hour indicator, is indicator at 3 o'clock in 24 hour format. Minutes for the second time zone are referenced via the main time's minute hand. A simple, but elegant system for offering a world-time complication.

The Zurich World Time watch will be about 40mm wide in steel, with a sapphire crystal and caseback window. The white dial is easy to read, contained in the tasteful, thin-bezeled case. Price will be 3,400 euros.

Ball Engineer Master II Diver World Time Watch

Ball Engineer Master II Diver World Time Watch

Some tout it as the poor man's Girard-Perregaux ww.tc watch, but there is nothing "poor" about Ball's new Engineer Master II Diver World Time watch. While it technically is placed in their diver's watch collection and has the type of durability you'd expect from such a pieces, this is a great watch for travelers. In addition to the ring style GMT indicator, you can get the time of anywhere in the world at a glance (as well as whether it is day or night there). There is also an internal rotating bezel that is of course necessary on a diver's watch.

Set in a 45mm wide Engineer Master II Diver steel case, the watch has a sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 300 meters. Inside the watch is a specially modified Swiss ETA 2836 automatic movement with the GMT ring complication in it. Ball calls it their caliber 965 The watch also has the day of the week and the date indicators. Like all Ball watches, the Engineer Master II Diver World Time watch is fitted with a number of tritium gas tubes in the hands and hour markers for effortless (no light charge) night viewing. Ball watches have the most powerful tritium gas tubes available in watches in the US. There are also 55 tubes in the watch.

The timepiece was inspired by Ball brand ambassador Guillaume Nery, the accomplished freediver. The watch caseback has an engraving meant to honor him. Ball will offer the Engineer Master II Diver World Time on a steel or rubber strap. Price should be a few thousand dollars, for this very cool, and highly useful timepiece.

Vogard Radiator F1 Watch

New from one of the cooled indy active watch makers I know of is the Vogard Radiator F1. It takes the concept of the standard line of Vogard world time watches and gives it an F1 racing them. The "Radiator" part of the name comes from the skeletonized watch dial that looks like part of a car radiator. The cool watch allows you to adjust the timezone simply by turning the bezel. Open the latch located on the right side of the watch to unlock the bezel motion. The time changes easily without any loss in timing accuracy. There is of course also a 24 hour hand used as an AM/PM indicator - not sure if it is independently adjustable as a GMT hand.

The 43mm wide case is made from black steel and Titanium Carbide. The complex to make case is very hard and water resistant to 100 meters. Another part of the F1 theme are the replacement of the reference time city names on the bezel. They have been replaced by famous F1 tracks all over the world. The timepiece also makes it possible to indicate Daylight Saving Time (DST), when taking into consideration the differences between timezones. The movement is a Swiss automatic specially modified by Vogard. The watch is a difference style that the more conservative line of Vogard watches but is true to the brand's DNA. The watch is available with a number of straps, including a metal bracelet, rubber, or alligator (red or black). Available soon.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm Watch Exclusive For Tourneau

Jaeger-LeCoultre and Tourneau together present the new Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm watch that will be exclusively sold only at Tourneau watch stores. Tourneau is the largest watch retail chain in the world and carries an impressive number of brands at their many locations internationally. The watch is a unique combination of world timer and mechanical alarm. The watch comes in two limited editions. 20 pieces in 18k rose gold and titanium, and another 50 pieces in all titanium.

The watch case is 46.3mm wide, which is common for the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme line. The time is easy to read on the main dial with the left portion of the dial being reserved for the alarm time, while on the right is a date window. In addition to cities, the world time indicator features a few natural landmarks such as the Galapagos Islands and Scandola. The crowns feature a special security lock while the watch itself is a shock absorption system for the movement. The watch is attached to a leather and fabric strap. Style of the watch is sporty and functional with a busy dial that is still legible enough. Look for the Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm watch at select Tourneau watch stores soon.
